Family has a 2005 E320 diesel. Its a good car, nice torque delivery, relatively modern interior. Main problem is when it goes wrong its a total bitch. Expensive parts and confusing construction have put the repair bill high. Other than that, go for it. Wouldn't buy a petrol though.

i'm going for a diesel :) i am working as a car mechanic apprentice so fixing it should not be a problem

Its not a beetle dude, it requires special tools and is a total nightmare. make sure you know what you're doing before you start dissembling things.

Not really. I have a 2007 E220 CDI and it's not overly complicated in any sense, especially if he's a mechanic.

Mine is at 310.000km and its been very reliable.
It did have some suspension components replaced (bushings) along with the engine mounts and belt pulleys idlers etc, but it's nothing thats not to be expected on a high mileage car.
