I have a soft spot for the second gen usdm Ford Escorts. You may want to beware the engine. The 1.9L engines were known for dropping valves. I'd swap to either a Mazda 1.8L BP (which was standard on the Escort GT) or the later 2.0L Setec or even later 2.0L Duratec Ford I4's.

I actually plan to BP swap it, turbo, forged internals, the whole deal. Plan on ~20PSI, 380 crank.

any plans to also AWD swap it? You could probably import a AUDM Ford Laser TX3 (as a parts car) to do the swap.

Actually no, the shell is a bit different between the Laser and the Escort. I physically can't fit the rear diff as is, without cutting and welding and all that bullshit. I will keep it FWD, but though a Mazdaspeed Protege LSD and 245 width tires will keep it in check.
