I want something with an inline six-cylinder and rear-wheel-drive, and I want something that is lower-maintenance than a BMW. Is this the right choice or is there something better out there?
What should I look out for?
>>
>>16305409
That is pretty much your only choice other than Early Z's
>>
>>16305413
Are Z's better than the average Nissan reliability-wise? I've been told that Nissans fall apart quickly.
>>
>>16305409
Can you use one of these cars as an Uber/Lyft vehicle?
>>
Buy a Skyline
>>
>>16305409

Love this fucking car. No one buy it. I'm sure it'll rise in value soon

Well, I own an "old" Nissan, really reliable, but it doesn't help the Z it is a 40 year old car. Reliability wise? Its great, the L28 is even more bullet-proof then a single cam KA.

My buddy owns a z31 as well, he loves it, not as easy to work on as an s30 though.
>>
>>16305444
Fuck no, Uber and Lyft don't let you use a car older than 10 years
>>
>>16305462

Can't. US never got a Skyline/Infiniti with an inline six.
>>

Well in that case fuck it, get the almighty LS400 OP you won't regret it and you'll make other IS/GS/SC owners look like plebs when you pass by with your massive V8 luxury&stylish sedan

...but I want an I6
and I don't want a land barge.
>>
>>16305578

If you benchrace the is300 it's something like 0-60 in 7.7 seconds. Kinda slow, my accord v6 is way faster.

Then again, I hate driving it and would rather have the is300
>>
>>16305578
There's also the lexus sc300/supras but good luck finding a good one

Uhhh I've actually did bench race other IS300's and Accords V6 and they all saw my tailights
>>
>>16305597

I don't give a shit about speed. I want an I6 on principal because they're simpler and lighter than a V6 making equal power
>>
>>16305572
Not that old friendo, fg would be aight
>>
>>16305618

Ehhh that car is definitely not my taste.
>>
>>16305597
Yeah, the IS300 is actually pretty slow until you start looking into things like turbokits and GTE swaps. If you want fast you should look for an IS350. It's a nicer car too for only a few grand more.
>>
>>16305563
Implying the long hood SC doesnt look as good.

Essentially a toyota, so reliable as an alarm clock. it is down on power but that engine was offered with a factory rurbo on other models.

literally a toyota draped in leather, im at 160k and the only major issues are 15-18mpg city, timing belt every ~100k(seen someone with 200 on original one though) and sometimes there are some loose connections which can usually be remedied with a quick slap or knock.
>>
>>16305489
>KA

Thats the most bold face lie ive heard ALL year
>>

It's a fucking great car. I had a 2002 back in 2013 and that thing drove better than most cars you buy new TODAY. It was my first car and everyone gave compliments on it even though it was over 10 years old - I remember feeling like a fucking baller just driving it around and starting it up.

It is indeed down on power compared to modern sport sedans, but at 215hp/215tq it's actually not down by that much. Entry level BMW's, Mercs, etc. are literally at the same output levels even today despite being heavier. A 320i starts at 34 grand and is almost as slow - 180hp and 7.1s 0-60. A CLA250 is a bit more HP and TQ, but FWD unless you pay even more. An IS250 has a 206HP V6 and I guarantee that thing is going to be around the same in terms of power and acceleration as well.

In a word, op, if you can find a good one then buy that shit up.

2JZ all day!
straight six for the win!
lasts forever!
sexy sounding!
>>
>>16306228

I don't even know if I could really say that were true, though.

Sure, the IS300 and the Toyota Altezza are one and the same but the only reason for that is because ALL Lexus cars were Toyota's in Japan until 2005. It's not a case where the cars were built as Toyota's and rebranded as Lexus, they were Lexus cars rebranded as Toyota's!

The proof is in the pudding - the typical Toyota was not RWD then and no other Toyota came close to the way that the IS300 drove as an overall package. Tight, agile, and fun while still having a smooth Lexus-tier ride (obviously no LS400 but still).
>>
>>16306273
is300 definetly a great car, considering either a 300 or a 350 in the future, as the LS is only fast in a straight line lol.

>>16305979

implying any lexus from the 2000'sand a bit earlier doesnt look good

its super comfy, some dipshit backed up into it in a parking lot and blew out my tail light lol. it was the first JDM Crown to come here in Canada back in 2007, put about 100,000km on it including a trip to the USA, took this in Montana
>>
>>16306834
You going to buy a new taillight? Where do you get parts?
>>
>>16306749
2000 platinum
>>
>>16306843

Be-Forward has a junkyard one but its like $450 shipped here to Canada, i always got parts from partsouq.com which is a warehouse in Saudi Arabia but they changed their catalogue system and i cant find anything for 8th gen Crowns anymore

i know people worldwide and a guy i know in Pakistan is trying to see if he can get me a junkyard one, its not high on my repair list. the cam seals are leaking so i want to put aftermarket cams and stuff in the engine first next summer then deal with the small bits of rust and taillight
>>
>>16305409
I had an IS300 for about 7 years, it was a great car but I got rid of it recently for a new Mazda 3.

It is a fantastic car that held up very well despite the alleged lack of power. Very fun to drive, very balanced, timeless design, simple and functional interior and it is super reliable/cheap to run.

I highly recommend it.

A single cam KA is reliable as fuck, as long as you don't boost the shit out of it in a shitbox 240.

Lexus IS300
Lexus SC300
Lexus GS300

also with an inline 6 and RWD, but not a BMW
Chevrolet Trailblazer
third generation Oldsmobile Bravada
GMC Envoy
Buick Rainier
Saab 9-7X
Isuzu Ascender
All of those were available with GM's LL8 4.2L Vortec inline 6 Atlas engine, which was on Ward's 10 best engines list in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005.
>>
>>16305654
no it wouldn't. US import laws mean it won't be eligible to import until its 25 years old.
Blame Mercedes' profit protection mob for that law even existing.
