Depends on the bike. Have a look around and see if another model uses the same transmission with wider ratios. Swapping the whole gear set might not be too hard if you can drop the whole other shaft in. Picking your own gears could be tough if there's space issues inside the box .etc

Over 300cc is a bad idea for very fresh beginners who haven't ever ridden motorcycles at road speeds. Big dimension bikes are also not the best idea. It's easier to learn bike control to a real noob on light 250s.

After about 6 months on this, when it should be becoming natural to ride and you know how to corner properly, getting a bigger bike up to 600 sportsbike kind of performance (if they have some self control) shouldn't be a problem. Larger, heavier but not highly powered bikes aren't unreasonable after just a couple of months if you just take time to master its slow speed control and are cautious in the corners.

If i want to upgrade to a different bike, i want to be able to have more option in terms of displacement because if im mostly commuting in the city, 650 is way more than neccesary but it i want to go on the highway then 250 just barely gives you enough power for those speeds and only if you are revving the hell out of it. i like the DRZ and i like enduros but i prefer riding something more suited to the streets with a bit more weight and stability especially for higher speeds

Why? If you want an econo bike that can do anything then get a 250 or 300. The top speed of them is somewhere around 80-90 mph usually, more than enough to do an overtake on the motorway.

The designated vehicle for irresponsible riding is now back on the road and damn I missed this bike. If you missed what happened, I sommersaulted myself and the bike on the tarmac early last month after a trail braking mistake on the track. Last I heard it rolled over twice before skidding to a stop...


There's a few details to sort out — the front fender isn't there, gotta remove the front wheel to put it back on. The fork legs got a bit out of alignment and for whatever reason, dash lights are all out. Riding it at night sure is fun with the entire dash all pitch black. Also gotta put the mirrors back in there.

I'll still have to tear it down again in the near future to replace a bunch of shit, but that comes later.

There's a track session on the 17th of December but I think I'll pass. It's gonna rain and I need a new rear tire.

That's just how riding is, you need to constantly be on the lookout, buffering, setting up brakes and predicting the motion of cars to stay alive.

Don't enter blind intersections, don't ever assume the car will "stop" or not do that thing it could totally do and fuck you up etc.

This is why plenty of riders eventually give up riding on the road and go track only.

My commute is an hour long / 44mi with the majority of road being open highway, a small section being interstate, and the minority being town and city roads under 45mph.

my budget is $3000, and I am completely fine with sacrificing all comfort for maneuverability, power, and/or ability to ride defensively on a moment's notice to avoid an accident. Safety in this instance does not imply preventative electronics like ABS, it involves rider control and proactive measures to prevent that shit from ever happening.

I do not require a comfortable seat, am 6'0", and would prefer to be able to quiet my exhuast note considerable and instead use bright riding lights. A powerful stroke would be neat, I enjoy deep THUMTHUMTHUMTHUMs I hear from cruisers, so if it has to be a cruiser, let that be a secondary consideration.

If I can fit these parameters into a cruiser, great.
