What should I choose:
Mark II X100 2.0 (1g-fe)
Celica 6th gen with 3s-ge
Levin ae110 with 4age or 4afe
I live in Siberia, so I should be able to drive don't paying attention to the snow.
Everyone here buy Marks for dorifto, but I choose my first car and I'm not sure will I be able to drive Mark safely.
And I want to know what is the price of this cars in the USA, here any of these cars will cost me about 3500$
For now I have experience of driving 2007 Ford Fusion (European Fusion, it was pretty shit because of 1.4 engine)
>>
>>16299892
You're still keeping the fusion right? I'd go with the Levin
>>
Hello friends i have a quick question as i'm very poorly versed in the i6 engines Toyota has.

Is it true that the NA 2J is terrible for boosting? I'm looking at soarers to make fast in a straight line and they come in either a TT 1J, NA 2J or NA 1UZ. (Also 7MGTE but slow).

Where would you start? End goal is as far as i can get the engine before really shelling out on internals.
>>
>>16299892
The Levin is heck good with most mods and can look really nice for cheap and would probably cost the least to maintain.
>>
>>16300093
Non vvti Na 2j's take boost great. Expensive though. 1j is cheaper and you can go big single. 7m is not that slow. 3inch exhaust, intake and 10psi instead of 7 and you're stock 2j. That's like 400 dollars worth of stuff. Probably cheaper if labour is cheap in Siberia.
>>
>>16300326
I'm not the Siberian, i don't want the 7MGTE due to head gaskets and cost slowly becoming ass. I'll look into the 2J that the Soarer uses.
>>
>>16300657
Oh, my bad. I still feel obligated to mention that the 7m headgasket issue is easily corrected. Pretty cost effective up to 400hp still. If you're gonna start from scratch and money isn't an issue, go 2j I guess. Some people buy 2jz's and just drop 1jz heads on them. Maybe that's an option for you? Google 1.5jz

hello this is a midship post
>>
>>16300077
Fusion is my brother's car, so I can't really use it any time
>>16300101
Thanks, I think Levin looks better than Celica.
All of these aren't really expensive to maintain. For example, brother replaced timing belt, and it cost him 160$, when timing belt for Levin cost from 16 to 30$, and the price of replacing it is 20$.
About Soarers: in Siberia there are only 1UZ Soarers. And I even have seen one with 1FZ, swapped from Land Cruiser 80
>>
>>16300093
Sc400 fag here.

So NA 2J and hold boost only for around 350-500hp avg. tho would hit max hp for the money you can do the other 2jz for.

2jz-gte can make 800 easy

2jz-gte vvti does make alot but less than above. vvti gives more mid range.

1j-gte stock good for 600 hp?

1uz is a 4.0 v8.NON vvti 91-93 can hold a ton of boost. There is a guy that is making 560 ish? on a stock 1uz with a s366. This costs more than most options. But he is in full boost at 34000 rpm witch is nice. Can also go supercharger with this one but for the drag car not what your looking for.

For you is price is not a factor just go with the 2jz-gte. can make the most power before it blows.

if you want something cool go with the 1uz.

if you want soomthing like the 2jz-gte but less expensive go with the vvti 2j-gte.

>>
>>16300937
Here we call it gt-four
I checked out the prices, almost 6k$, I think that if I would have this much money I would buy simple 7th gen celica
Also gt-four is kind of a problem when it comes to getting an insurance. For my first 2 years of driving I will pay 1.5 times more than normal driver. So I want to get about 150hp car for this time, because it would cost me a lot less than 160hp car for example (in my city almost all 4age Levins declared as 4afe ones, so 115hp in the documents for lower transport fee and cheaper insurance)

Compression test.
Another compression test.
Ask if the headgasket has been replaced. Ask if it was torqued down past factory spec to 75 foot lbs if stock headgasket and 100 of metal headgasket with arp studs.
Check for oil leaking into the spark plug valley, not a big deal, but you can use it to haggle.
If it's a pre 89 ask of they changed the fluid in the rear diff. They have clutch lsd's that need the fluid changed.

I was parked parallel to the street at a friends house, car was mostly in the grass. It was across the drive way from the house on the opposite side of the street though, and this lady backed out and hit it.

The headliner is destroyed in mine. I'm just keeping it running for my mom to drive to work and back. Not really concerned about stuff like that. Might need a new battery though. Or another alternator. I'm not sure. Headlights flicker when braking and the belt squeals a bit on a cold start.

Snow mode in these mostly just limits throttle response. On the automatics, it also changes shift points slightly, but not much else.

Traction control on these are brilliant though. I run an open diff on mine, but due to the traction control braking individual rear wheels, the wheel with the most traction ends up with power regardless.

If you're going through a portion of snow build up that's about 10 feet long, and about a foot high, is it better to stop and go slow so you don't damage your front lip/bumper or go with some speed to keep momentum? Which one is safer for the car? (I.e. oil pan, brake lines, etc)

That's sort of subjective anon. Good cars although the motors aren't the most reliable things Toyota has ever put out. If you love canyon carving and Twisties, and don't mind never winning a drag race, then yeah.

they're toyota engines, based off the N platform. They'll run 250k easily like any other toyota as long as you aren't a tard

So looking at a 94 Celica GT4 wrc edition with 200k km for $6500 CAD, are the amount of km's ok if I am planning on keeping it stock boost levels. How reliable is the 3SGTE?

Just noticed that winter straight up stole the glass right out of my left fog light.

Do I: A. Replace the fog light and actually make them work since they were broken before? Or
B. Rip em both out and replace with grills.

What spring rates would you recommend?
>1992 Civic VX
>Purely a Daily Driver with occasional spirited driving, just 2 minute twisty road periods of my day with an emphasis on cornering.
>Rainy Rough Weather (Seattle, WA)
>Occasionally have passengers in the back (needs to be wife and small child approved)
>not looking for a serious drop in height, maybe a 2-3 finger gap at the most?

I've attached a photo with the current monstrous height with 13" wheels.

Eventually I would like a K swap, but with the same intended purposes. So a suspension set up with spring rates that work for the car in this stage as well as the eventual K- stage would be ideal.

I would like the car to have understeer at the limit, but I would also like my line to be corrected by easing off the throttle.

Hey tg
Why is the Venza no longer going to be made? Here in Toronto I see them every where, I borrowed my parents to drive around when visiting them over the summer and it's a very nice crossover, lovely interior too. What went wrong?

Should I beams or 20v swap it for fun and sound. I plan on buying Lexus seats and badge swapping it for comedy
>>
>>16317758
Why not 3MZ-FE swap? It's not much harder than a beams swap.
>>
>>16317788
I doubt it'd fit in the bay, anything that fits in the BZR fits IIRC and i've never once heard of that swap, what's the aftermarket like though?
>>
>>16317801
If fits in ST182 Celica's and the Corolla engine bay isn't much bigger.

>>16317801
>, what's the aftermarket like though?
virtually nonexistent, but the V6 makes good power and is a fairly common swap into MR2's because displacement.
>>
>>16317804
How's the aftermarket? Also ITBs' for the 3MZ-FE would be a hassle to find wouldn't they?
>>
>>16317812
Well that's where the fun dies, i love high as fuck revs and ITBs' so the blacktop was boner territory

No. The top 4 cylinder FWD engine, the 5S-FE (at least in America) was the same engine used in the Camry. The engine bay/frame of the Celica is actually REALLY close to those of the MR2 and Corolla.

>>
>>16321168
Those are cool but you'd be in uncharted territory. To date, 2GR-FE's have only been swapped into MR2's. Granted, Woodsport said they used all the same stuff, bar wiring and hoses, for the 1MZ-FE Celica swap as they did for 1MZ-FE MR2 swaps, but it's still never been done. Theoretically possible but still.
Very cool swap though if you can manage it.

The time is drawing nearer to decide whether to pull the trigger on one of these or a similar Lexus or not. I doubt they'd be a bad choice in terms of quality and reliability, but I need to know how they fare in terms of fuel economy. Are 20-21 mpg combined for the GS300 and 18-19 mpg combined for the V8 GS and LS actually realistic? Why are the I6 and V8 so close together in fuel consumption anyway? Which one of them does worse in the city?

My dad recently bought a 95 T100, regular cab 2WD with the 3.4L V6. It seems like a pretty nice truck and it's well taken care of, how does /tg/ feel about T100s?

Also we bought a bunch of parts because my dad wants to do a bit of a tune-up. It's just over 200,000 miles so we're doing the timing belt, spark plugs, a bunch of gaskets and stuff. Anything I should know beforehand?

Also there's now 4 Toyota/Lexus/Scion cars parked in the driveway, I should take a family photo tomorrow.

It's most likely a wheel balance or alignment issue. I would get that checked first.
>>
I have an 06 camry in pretty good shape mechanically with 190000 miles on it, how much more life could i potentially get out of it with good maintenance/no accidents?
>>
>>16346659
At least another hundred
>>
>>16346667
100K?
>>
>>16346577
if you live in places that use salt, heavily inspect the frame and subframe for rust. I would take a nice close look at the where the pinion seal is at the rear diff for tons of oil (i just had to replace it on mine)

the 3.4>3.0 in both power and it doesnt blow the fucking headgasket as much.
>>
>>16346546
I can't really tell. It seems to me like the whole car is shaking, I definitely feel it in the wheel though.

>>16346612
Okay that's what I figured thanks lads
>>
>>16346470
Well that's gay.
>>
Do toyota's still run for like 300k if they are well maintained or does that only apply to older cars? It seems like car makers just don't make them like they used to.
>>
>>16346763
I have a 08 tundra thats approaching 300k, no problems at all with it
>>
>>16346675
Yea
>>

Yea they're still reliable
>>
>>16346850

>>

Luckily I live in Texas, it never freezes so nothing ever rusts. There's absolutely no rust visible on any frame parts that I could see.
>>
>>16346763
05 Celica approaching 120k. Besides regular maintenance, I've never spent a dime on mechanical repairs. Toyota's are still solid af, although the 2014 and beyond kind of worry me.
>>
Does anybody else with a supra know if their cigarette lighter turns off when the car is off? Mine doesn't seem to, and I thinky heated seat killed the battery. My alternator is weak so I've been having problems too.
>>
>>16349317
Yea mine turns off
I have electrical gremlins in my car too but they don't drain my battery and my alt is new iirc
>>
>>16331867
Just like the cars we all drive.

I still love my slushbox Camry and my 86 a lot.

I wish I had a heated garage with lift. I have to wait until next year to install my stuff :/

I momentarily read this as "heated garbage" and was puzzled why anyone would want that.

I've found a bunch of cheap used corollas and I'd like to buy one of them, but first I'd have to testdrive them. There's just so many of them, and I don't know how to narrow my search even further.

Should I look at the KMs driven, any years to avoid? Thanks.

Maybe give us more info. What years are you looking at, transmission, country etc.
>>
>>16350582
Southern Ontario, Canada

Years are anything between 1995-2005

Automatic

Found quite a few, but don't want to go after 25 different cars, as I wanna buy it within the next 2-3 weeks if possible. Here's one that's cheap, but I don't know if I should bother trying it:

Lol do you have the tomorrow theme?
>>
>>16350380
Yea always look at mileage. I don't think there are any years to avoid with corollas
>>
>>16350717
What should I ask the sellers before meeting? They're all private for what it's worth. Any documents/warranties that are worth seeing?
>>
>>16350703
Nah. Just pattern recognition that screws up for like a second.
The garage situation here is two long garages with interior walls bc apartment complex, and no garage doors bc they were removed years ago and still need to be replaced. No room for lifts or anything like that in these narrow single vehicle slots. Big suvs barely fit, and even my Corolla has to be backed in carefully to ensure I can get out.
>>
I figure this is the best place to ask but when comparing a new corolla to a new civic, are they basically the same minus toyota engine vs Honda? Both are reliable, have good a warranty, ect ect.
>>
>>16351032
Why in the fuck would you EVER buy a new corolla or even civic??? Your literally getting charged an extra 10k for NOTHING. A well maintained 2008 corolla is basically same thing as a brand new 2017 one. Don't be retarded, never buy a new civic or corolla. Waste of money, buy used.
>>
>>16351060
This.
At the very least get a certified pre owned one.

Sorry for sounding dumb, but what does the title entail specifically? The VIN number, or what?
>>
>>16352300
pretty much proof/rights of ownership
the VIN is that juicy shit that tells you everything about the car
Google is your friend btw
>>
>>16352312
Wouldn't that be easy to falsify though? I'm only asking this because I don't want to see 25+ cars one by one, so I want to narrow things to under 10 at least.
>>
>>16352320
it's a little complex but there's inspections for everything and records always go through the DMV so it's pretty secure

A title is a legal document that proves your ownership of a vehicle, it should look like a legit document with anti-forgery markings and stuff on it. If it looks like the dude photocopied it in his basement or something then run. When you buy the car you'll get the title and then you have to have the state transfer the title to you to say that you now own the car. The title should be "clean" meaning it does not indicate that the car has been salvaged or anything like that. If it's a salvage title then don't buy that shit.

A VIN is a number which is engraved/printed on various locations on the car and engine. The owner should tell you the VIN of the car so that you can use it to check the vehicle history. Lots of services online will allow you to use a VIN to look up a history of inspections and whatever accidents the car may have been involved in. Sometimes on /o/ there are VIN threads where you can post a VIN and a friendly tripfag will run the history report on it for you for free.

What can i do to my 2011 daily driver Yaris sedan to make it a little more fun?

I inherited it from my grandfather and think it would make a great car to keep in the family and to use as my daily so I don't want to sell it.

I want these mods to be more low key and unoticable to people on the outside and just stuff I would notice more

I saw an engine swapped Yaris but that's not quite something I think I would be able to do.

for suspension stuff what would you recommend?

Thoughts on the 10 gen civics with 1.5L turbo?
Will the turbo/cvt combo hold up over the long haul?
