What up /o/ need some advice on buying a new shitbox, and I need yins to tell me if I'm being retarded.
I found a 1985 Volkswagen Golf for $1000 local to me. It's in stupid clean condition inside and out, and runs like a top. I figure this thing would be a nice shitbox to commute to by shitty job(8 miles) and will save me some cash since the 350 sbc won't be chugging fuel anymore.
tldr; should I buy a clean, good running 30 year old hitler mobile for winter beater or naw

do it, worst case sell it for what you paid to some VW fanboy
is that pic the actual thing?
i'd get it, looks like it used to belong to someone that browses the vortex
golfs are pretty indestructible, especially mk1 rabbits and the mk2. No real issues besides the CIS fuel injection systems.

Google image.
Owned by a retired old guy. Bone stock four door, except for the stereo he put in it. Decent maintenance record, I just didn't have time to ask him if he got to the timing belt on the thing recently. Besides a few scratches, and a bent pinch weld, the whole thing is spotless which is nuts for PA.

It's also an automatic, but that doesn't bother me. VW's manuals usually have good reputations, but I really don't know much about mk2s.

Yeah, do it. These things are dead simple and reliable, from when VW didn't feel the need to build cars that only last as long as the lease does and made honest-to-God people's cars.
