Starting to get into /o/ ever since I bought my 2016 Honda fit this year.

How do I go about learning more about /o/ and eventually tuning it? Like what to start working on and what parts I will be needing and why?

Do you guys install your mods yourself or get someone else to do it for you?

Is getting into suspension a good starting point since it's a bit more low-key and less obviously riceboy?

Is it better to start of learning about then doing stuff to the suspension then engine then looks and other superficial things.

Mind you, beofre getting this car I didn't care about cars or anything.

And yes, I know people are going to say this is car to waste time and money improving but fuck it, I love this little thing. don't care that it's not going to be beating people at stoplights or anything, this is my little Toy.

I'm new as well and bought my Civic last year as a running project of sorts. I try to do everything myself but if it's beyond my knowledge or ability I've made a lot of new acquaintances thanks to the car that can help. Suspension is a great start, that's how I started because the suspension on mine was all shot. After that I'd do wheels and tires, intake, and exhaust. If it's manual, a short shifter improves the driving feel.

By working on it and doing research on the Internet. Just do basic maintenance for now. The owner's manual should have the intervals for everything. I do easy mods myself and if ir's hard I just give it to my brother so he can install it at his work. After maintenance you can get into suspension. From easiest to hardest, looks, maintenance, suspension and then engine.
If it's manual you did good

Blog update:

Orange rex starts and runs now.

After undoing all the hack job shit I couldnt figure out why it didn't want to start and why once in a while it would have combustion for 1/2 second. (When it wasn't working it wouldn't have spark either, then spontaneously would have spark)

After tracing all the shit out at the ecu everything appeared normal. I unplugged the dizzy plug and measured for voltage going to the ignitor and it showed that there was. Plugged it back in and car is fine now.

Check your connectors I guess.

You know, some bolt ons, maybe a Spoon exhaust or Tein coil overs.

I bought my grandma's 2007 Fit Sport with 109 000 km on the clock and I love it more than half of my family.

Anyone know if it's possible to swap the rear drums with disc brakes? Or if anyone has a link or know of someone else who's done and entire independent rear suspension swap from the JDM Jazz SI?

Ideally if I could put the entire AWD from the Japan version that would be ideal but if there's aftermarket drum to discs conversion I'd be happy.

Drums are good for longevity. They last longer than the disc set up.

What's with all the fits all of a sudden?
>>
>>16277271
Alright, I'll consider it. Still, no one has given any positive or negative talking points about the Fit.
>>
>>16277386
Well the fit is inexpensive. But it has a 130 crank horsepower motor. I recommended the much much more expensive legacy, because even though it's 1,000lbs more it has more than double the horsepower, and being a 6cyl it has way more torque.

Basically the fit does everything you'd want kinda well except for being sporty. If you get your kicks cornering hard, you'll be happy with one. Straightline/passing is miserable though.

The subaru is also a lot roomier, which means you could fit 4 adults easily. (In case baby gets bigger and you have same car, or you make more babies)

The subaru is also a LOT LOT safer simply due to the fact that it has a 1,000lb weight advantage over the fit. Keep in mind with everyone driving SUV and mommy missiles, driving a lightweight car is a death sentence.

If you don't want the 3.6R you can settle for a 2.5, but you lose some of the power. Also while you say you don't need AWD, having it on a daily commuter is really nice. In terms of safety for your kids and overall safety on the road, a bigger, heavier, faster car is the safe bet.

Get yourself something fun to drive that you wouldn't put your kid(s) in.

Alright I'm getting tired of this shit.

1991 Honda Prelude 2.0Si B20a5

Car sat for years, had bad gas. Pulled gas tank, changed fuel pump, fuel filter. Ran fine for a bit. Now it runs like shit, really rough idle, whole car shakes. I can pull the spark plug wires on 3 cylinders and it does nothing to the motor, only one starts to kill the engine. Changed all fuel injectors, still same thing. Changed main relay with 5 different ones, same thing. Cleaned grounds, same. Changed spark plugs twice, same thing. Spark plugs came out with black shit all over them. All of them were wet with what seems like kinda crappy gas except for the one cylinder that would start to die when I pulled the plug on it. After the car sat with like 1/6th a tank of gas for a few weeks, I put fuel stabilizer. Then like a month later it got filled almost full with fresh gas.

What the fuck else do I do?

Clean the contacts on the distributor, check for vacuum leaks (FUCK B20A vac leaks), change/clean ITS, IACV. Sounds like you're running rich, is it throwing a CEL?

Ensure your O2 sensors are all good and no vac leaks. Burn the fucker or sell it it to me if non of that works.
>>
>>16279913
I don't think it's the IACV since it runsl like shit through all rpms. I dunno what the fuck the ITS is. It was recommended to me to run a hotter spark plug. Gonna try that but even if it works it's just covering up a problem that's still there.

I fucking love this car but this god damn engine is a fucking nightmare.
>>
>>16279913
Forgot to put, no it's not throwing a CEL and I changed the rotor and cap and nothing changed. At one point it did have a CEL but the blinks didn't coincide with any from the service manual.

The ITS is intake temp sensor and is emission associated. Though, the B20A5 intake is different from the B21 intake since it doesn't have the IAB butterflies.

The blinking CEL could have indicated misfire, however that's no help.

It's for sure running rich, now to find what the fuck is wrong. The B20As are black and white, they're either super shit or good.

I did have a problem when I owned mine that sounds familiar, though I caught it just fucking around with it.

Go turn on your Prelude and unplug the MAF sensor, see if that makes a difference. If nothing changes, fucker's own. I think stock they're 2.5-bar or something of that sort, like $90 on Rockauto.

She doesn't drive that much that she used before retirement, so a brand new car would be overkill imo. I can get a cr-z for 10kish with 40-100k km. However, don't know much about Honda or hybrids. Not what it's called. You have no idea how it works fundamentally, and therefore your idea is shit. It isn't a theft deterrent. All it does is prevent the steering wheel from moving in the rare event that your ebrake snaps and your car is rolling down a hill.

If I wanted to jack your shit, you "locking your powersteering" isnt going to do fucking anything. I can literally break that 1 handed.

In the future, when you are wrong, don't be such a cuck about it
>>
>>16287401
except for the fact it locks up everything in my car and gets stuck there unless i kick the fucking wheel in because my em2 doesn't easily come out of being locked.
Its worked so far and only person that broke in my car just drew a penis on my radio code card.
Stop being so autistic m8.
>>
>>16287344
Then I'd recommend it. The only concern I'd have about it is parts, because it just got discontinued and it might be hard to find replacements down the line.
>>
>>16287427
It doesn't lock everything in the car.
It keeps the wheel from rotating and it's extremely easy to break.
The person who broke into your car was never going to steal it.

I'm trying to give you advice and you are too retarded to realize it.

I have an EM2 and it's so fucking easy to steal.
Tear the cowl off, break apart the back side of the ignition so that it separates from the lock, literally use any object to turn it and you're done.

Get a real security system, don't convince yourself that it's safe simply because you have no idea how it works.

And for the "autistic" comment, I'm literally trying to help you and you are being retarded.

If you keep putting the hill lock on and assuming it's safe, you will get your shit stolen. It is not an anti-theft mechanism
>>
>>16287443
In the em2 it locks the ignition and steering. While my auto tragic shifter is fucking locked in place there unlike when i don't have the wheel locked and its in park. I can force the shifter out of park without starting the car when the wheel is not locked. Not sure why this is though.

>>
>>16287470

Wrong again.

If you don't believe me do the following and record it for everyone.

Lock the steering wheel
Right above the P on the gear selector there's a little trap door.
Open it with a screwdriver
Jam a screwdriver into the hole that is now there
Gear shift can move into any gear now

boom, anti-theft defeated

If you don't want to do it for some reason, I'll charge my phone and record a video of it

I have the attitude of nothing. Though text can't covey that well. Too depressed with life to care about car right now. Ive had a shitty week.
>>
>>16287605
I don't feel sorry for you. My life is dope and I do dope shit. I'm not here to shit on anyone, but you asked for it. Take it as a learning experience. Also now you know how to get your car into neutral if the battery is dead. (The slot is designed for key but you can use anything key shaped)
Here's other video, again upsidedown for a few mins:

It's easy to steal pretty much anything. Even shit with immobilizer. I'm sure there's an even easier way but all you gotta do is swap the ecu to something you have a key for and break the fucking lock yet again.

You can fuck around with adding security systems and shit and to a certain degree it works, but they can always tow your shit.

Pic related is in my opinion the best anti-theft device of all time. basically all the wiring gets routed to a plug and that plug connects everything. But the way each plug connects is unique. Therefore it's pretty god damn difficult to get your car started because I'll probably blow the main fuse before I figure out which goes where. All the wires are in metal loom and the same color so it's not easy to just hack it off either
>>

Funny thing. I had to disable that shift lock in my old auto Civic because the ECU I got for it was manual. It wouldn't disengage the shift lock anymore so I tied it down. Didn't need to press the brake to shift it anymore.

It's gonna be under 50°F today for the first time. Time to break out the jacket and heater.
>>
>>16287934
Unless the car is off i can easily shift it without pressing the break or even pressing the button on the shifter. I heard from another auto driver thats normal but i feel like they were bullshitting me.

Orange car coming along well. Had to make a radio harness that works with the OEM dash harness because PO cut it out. Dash is in and everything is tagged and ready to go for when I throw a chinese head unit in it. Trunk should be good to go tomorrow, gunna get some masonite and some nutserts.

Oh, put some seats in too. Put some drivers side rails on a passenger seat and threw it in, hence the mismatch. But both seats are fuckin mint.

Door sills and one other missing piece on the way. Just need some speaker grilles and good to go.

I really like having the speedo sandwiched between the tach and my view of the road.Basically with the stacked set up, whenever you take a glance at the tach, all the other important information is on the way as your eyes move back to the road. It's just a very clean and modern setup, imo. That and it's super comfy at night.

The one thing I can't stand is the how the speedometer reads during acceleration. Ideally, the displayed mph would change by 1 mph increments no matter how fast or slowly you are changing speed. Instead, it's like it's too lazy to do that and just updates the speed by random increments so you don't get a continuous reading of mph's during acceleration/deceleration.

5 door would have been cool, but I dunno-if it was a hatch I'd go for it, but I think I saw a euro version of the civic in btcc a few years ago that looked like a ford winstar
>>
>>16291375
Traditional speedos are continuous, that's what makes them good. Honda went for a dumb gimmick instead and has stuck with it to this day. Disappointing.

Like I said a USDM specific version. It wouldn't be the Euro-blob Civic.

looks breddy good. Amerifat, so I don't know how to convert from CAD to USD, but I'm sure it's in the ballpark depending on the mileage.

I don't know much about the R18 but I bet you'll be fine with regular oil changes. If it were me I'd flush all the fluids myself, check the brake pads, control arm bushings, look over, under, and around it and check for any mechanical niggery

that said, It'll probably be a relatively bullet-proof car. Hope it works well for ya man
