I have the opportunity to pick up 2 Subaru XT6 for fairly cheap. One is only for parts but the other looks and runs pretty well for a 20 something year old car.

My question is, is this a decent car? I really love the 80s trying to be futuristic styling, but I have never ever seen one of these at meets or on the road which is a little concerning. Is that because they are rare, or is it because they are pieces of shit no one wants to put money into?

Also, I have a daily so that isn't an issue

They don't make a whole lot of power from the stock engine, but they are pretty damn good looking.
You don't see a whole lot of pre 90's Subaru because people treated these cars like shit, which is a shame because they are fucking cool.

R A R E

this is before Subaru became really popular so you don't see any of these out on the road anymore

Well, I hope you aren't looking for speed because you won't find any here. You have a parts car, and I'd assume mechanical parts are still easy to get, so it shouldn't give you much trouble there.

You don't see many because I don't think they were a high production car in the US, and as I said have little performance despite appearances, so they were treated like any old shitbox.

It'd be pretty cool to get an AWD model and drop in a modern STI engine. I'm sure there will be a fresh stock of those after all the Ken Block Jr. get out in the winter months

Looks like a late 80s prelude 4 wheel drive.

So two for $1k is a good deal?

>>16273595
>>16273558
That's ok, I wasn't expecting performance from an 80s car
>>
>>16273668
Two for 1k, given how rare they are AND that one still drives is pretty good fampai
>>
>>16273668
Are they 4wd or fwd?
>>

Do it as fuck, if it's rust free

The reason you don't see any anymore is because they were bought in snow states i.e. Colorado and the Northeast, and consequently all rusted out, kind of a catch 22

They're cool as fuck, the interior alone is worth it, that and the pre EJ flat fours and sixes sound fucking amazing even if they're not too pokey

I wouldn't advise getting a turbo XT unless you're ok with doing a swap since the EA82t is trash, but if it's the XT6 like you said go for it, the flat six from the 3rd gen outbacks swaps in as well

Parts are the hardest part, but if the driver is complete and clean, the parts car should supply any small things that might go wrong like glass, plastic/rubber bits etc.

80's Subaru owner protip - POR 15 is your friend, $50 for a quart of the shit is worth it, focus on the inside of the rockers, wheelwells etc.

To really do a proper rustproofing, put the car on jackstands with the wheels off, clean the fuck out of the undercarriage, take all the plastic liners off the inside of the wheelwells, and apply POR. If you're really dedicated, take the control arms, etc off and strip/paint them as well

I feel like it was my dads favorite car of all time. He talks about it like it was the most amazing thing ever. My aw11 reminds him of it in styling without the technology. It gives him warm feelings of the 80s. It was certainly ahead of its time.

God fucking damn, thats 80s as fuck
