Needs bodykit
If you like the Fieros, the 1988 GT model is the one to get. GM basically released the car like a steam greenlight game (good idea, half assed incomplete execution) then started to iron out the bugs over the years.
The 88 GT has a little more power and some of the handling issues were worked out. Usually cheap (6 - 8K) to find one with acceptable mileage in good condition.

I'm super interested in getting one and will probably get an 87 or 88 GT sometime in the Spring. In a previous Fiero thread someone mentioned that swapping a 90s 3.4L DOHC engine into them is preferable because they fit easily and make 50+ more horsepower than the stock V6

Nigga wat
LS swap that sucker, then turbo it.

Buick 3800 v6 is an easier swap, and it makes more hp. Worse motor though, doesn't rev as high, isn't a glorious screamer. I had one.
