Hey lads, I'm from a part of the U.S. where it's pretty popular to do dirt track racing. I used to go to the local speedway as a kid, and I always wanted to race.
I'm a bit older now, and I want to get a car together. At my local speedway, they have a bone stock racing category for beginners.
Basically, you get regular car, gut the shit out of it, weld in some roll bars, and weld the doors shut and you're good to go. No engine mods or anything like that.
What should I look for in a car?
It has to be an American build, 4, 6, or 8 cylinder engines allowed, and you have to have front or rear wheel drive, no 4x4s. It can be a truck or car. It can't have a 4 barrel carb and the 2 barrel carb must be unaltered.
What shitty car should I buy off Craigslist? I get $100 per win, and even if I get dead last, the payout is $25. Racing season lasts for about 6 months, so there are tons of races to compete in.
Focus ZX3 5spd, cheap, light, handle well.

A cavalier

get something FWD. Preferably a Chevy Cavalier, Pontiac Sunfire, Pontiac Grand Am, or Oldsmobile Alero with the 2.4L 4 cylinder with the 5 speed manual.

Why not an SVT? Those can be had for pretty cheap, too.

>here, ruin this rare version of a car where you can't get the special parts anymore
Just use a normal Zetec powered Focus.

What do you mean by this? There's more SVTs than civic hatches on CL and parts are still made.

This.
I literally just got one of these for free to run in enduro's next year. They are surprisingly quick around the track.

I have never even seen a SVT Focus for sale on CL.

Just found 6 in the Denver area. Where are you?
Also for 4 bangers I would have no problem running something with a quad 4 in it. Honestly surprised me how quick this shitbox was, though it did burn a lot of oil. I'm racing it again in a hangover race on the 1st to hopefully finish it off.

Must be nice, can't even remember the last time I've seen one in Buffalo.
As for v6's, people will tell you the 3800 is GOAT, but I've never been impressed by them. I ran one on a dirt (more like a mudbog) and asphalt track and was let down by how slow they are. Doesn't help they are always in garbage cars.

My buddy also runs one, and while he finished one enduro, the next one he windowed the block 8 laps in.
Personally I'd rather take a 3100 or 3400 anyday of the week.
Fug that sounds pretty badass op
I wonder if there is anything like that around the dfw area

Down here (VA) for UCAR everybody uses neons and cavaliers
>>16254634
Most of the hornets (4cyl class) around here are cavaliers or honda's
The fastest Stock Front guy in our local rallycross runs an Escort GT with the BP engine.
Nice and light with a decent engine.
you're going to want something with a 5 speed manyall trans. I actually reccomend a first gen neon. get one with a dohc engine because they have a 3.94 gear ratio and more power over the sohc (which usually comes with 3.55 gears unless its an acr) you can get these down to around 2k lbs and make good power. they also handle really well, and are easy to pull little tricks with different parts from different cars to make them really good. the community behind them is really awesome with one of the best forums on the net. best hornet class car imo

Most circle tracks have an entry level 4cyl class if you have any near you.
Around here 2 out of the 3 circle tacks within a half hour of me have enduros, which are bone stock shitboxes with nothing more than the glass and lights pulled. The one track is asphalt with 4 and 6 cyl FWD's, the other is broken down by 4/6/8 cyls FWD or RWD. Both are loads of fun.
Nothing beasts racing a $100 shitter with 113 other shitboxes.
