As far as my experience in this subject says is that:

>pull head
>it takes a 4lbs mallet with a pickaxe handle to beat off because last guy used indian sealer on it
>scrape what you can of headgasket off
>notice hairline fissure in 3rd cylinder
>just use sand paper and a large sanding block to smooth everything back out
>slap it back together with new gasket
>fresh motor oil and water instead of coolant
>drive care free for a year
>rad springs a leak
>seal off 3 cores
>springs more
>get new rad
>burning coolant now
>meh just keep topping it once a week
>rad cap starts popping off
>put on old cap
>doesnt hold pressure but everything works fine now
ignore other noises

To be fair i have been driving it on roads worse than what you find in no mans land afganistan, with double the payload rating at times, since i got it as a cheap beater 6 years ago.

It's why you look for any oily film on top of the fluid in your overflow tank.
