Ok fellas
Im trying to decide between a 1996 to 1997 corolla or 1996 to 2000 impreza outback sport.

>impreza outback sport according to google
MPG:23 city / 30 highway
Engine:2.2L 4-cylinder
Horsepower:137hp
Curb weight:2,835lbs
Torque:145lb-ft

>1997 corolla DX according to google
MPG:29 city / 35 highway
Engine:1.8L
Horsepower: 120 hp
Curb weight: 2,315 lbs
Torque: 115 lb-ft

The corolla has the weight advantage.
But the subaru has AWD at expense of weight.
The corolla has super maintenance
The subaru has ground clearance.
Both have very high reliability ratings.
What do?

What's your mission profile for this vehicle?
>>
>>16247756
DD
I have a 4x4 light truck and a mazda3 for the wifey.
The truck sucks ass in rain or snow, plus bad MPG.
I rarely drive the 3.
So i need a 3rd vehicle. Leaning toward the subaru because ill probably take it down dirt roads from time to time. But its easy to lift corollas too.
>>
If you're going to be working on it yourself the corolla is way easier.
>>
>>16247773
I will be. And this is a huge factor because ive owned corollas and AW11s before and know them well.
>>
>>16247769
They're both great. Just flip a coin, if heads, corolla wins, and if tails, outback loses.
>>
>>16247799
Hurr
>>
Get the rolla OP - better mpg and you already have a 4x4

That is one of the best generations of corolla's. You will literally never have an issue with it if you do maintenance well. I bought one for $400 to fuck around with, and I've ended up dailying it because its been so reliable, despite the fact that i beat the shit out of it, and its running to downstream o2 sensor with the exhaust out the hood. Seriously, its an incredible car.
>>
>>16248030
Im aware.
But ground clearance and awd are tempting
>>
>>16248030
*no downstream 02 sensor
>>
The subaru 2.2 is a very reliable engine, and it's not going to be any more difficult to work on than the toyota

fuel economy is definitely going to be worse though
>>
>>16248178
Can confirm this own a 97 subaru for years its a workhorse, easy as hell maintenance.

Buy the corolla.
>>
>>16249560
Why
>>
>>16249590
Better fuel economy, reliable, you're familiar with them so maintenance shouldn't be a problem. You can take it on dirt roads just fine, I take my miata on them all the time.
>>
>>16247769
>The truck sucks ass in rain or snow
Why anon? Are you running with bald summer tires in the snow?
>>
>>16249709
All terrains in good condition.
The rear brakes are overly sensitive. They work amazing with a load in the bed, but when empty they lock up VERY easily. Even on dry pavement.
They even set the truck up with rear only ABS, knowing it would be an issue.
Its a bit scary in slick conditions
>>
>>16249728
That sucks. The solution is to carry an atv in the bed at all times
>>
>>16249733
Lol k.
>>
>outback sport over a Legacy Wagon

everyone has their opinion
>>
>>16249795
Whats the benifit?
It seems heavier, worse mpg, and has no real advantage.
Explain plz
>>
>>16247617
I'd say the Impreza is a better car than the Corolla overall. They're both right around 100hp/ton so there's probably not much of a difference between the two in the performance category. The Corolla has the Impreza beat in fuel economy, and maybe slightly in overall maintenance costs. But as far as usability goes, the Impreza is just a way more versatile car.
