Sarcasm aside, I've got a few tips

Whatever you do by hand you'll have to retrace digitally anyways to get it printed, so don't worry about drawing skills you're not gonna need it for this. Someone else already did the hard part for you, all you gotta do really is trace over it.

>start in a vector
Don't be like me, I started learning digital design forever ago with rasterized formats (jpg, png, etc) and didn't start working with vectors until I started aad. Vectors are a million times better, but it can be harder to get into if you've spent all of your time in png's and the like, so I would imagine starting with vectors will give you a huge advantage. But even now I'm still pretty shit at them, the extent of my expertise is using auto-trace on inkscape. Anyone else wanna chime in with good starter tips for vectoring?

The good thing is you're going from a complicated design to a silhouette, I think it'll be easy as heck. What you'll probably wanna do is trace over the original sketch super-meticulously with the line tool. It'll take forever, but if you don't cut corners it can come out fucking fantastic.

Depending how big you plan on this being, you'll want to keep it really simple. Keep in mind a diecut printer's gonna have to cut your design out of vinyl. So don't make any super small details, like the hair-ends for example. Don't make it too detailed, and you'll be golden.

Do you pull Bezier lines or paint brush in illustrator?

I use the pen tool exclusively, so everything by hand, auto trace looks like crap. You can use the paint brush, I guess but I find it awkward plus it uses stroke so all your lines will br the same.

I don't really understand what you're having trouble with, is there any specific things? Have you looked at tutorials?
I exclusively vector in Illustrator and then I bring my vector over to PS to design the slap.
CS2 should be fine, if you want to try something newer I'd go with CS6 (cuz fuck CC)

every other fucking program has a trace tool you can select an area once you're ready. it's shit like that that just makes no fucking sense to me. it's a paradigm thing. the only other program I have this much trouble in is Gimp.

Sounds like you have a slow machine. As for the settings, it's something you learn with time. Try experimenting with the different tools and settings and see what they do.

Whenever I want to find out how to do something I just look it up. There is so many resources for Adobe programs that desu there's 0 excuse for people to have trouble with them.
