If you watch the vid again you'll see that they are just banging down gears with jamming the brake and locking the rear wheel up from the rapid downshifts. Look at the tach and listen to the bike.

I might have an opportunity to check out and maybe buy a 1982 Magna V45 today on the cheap. Assuming it isn't a complete pile of rusted and unsalvageable shit and I go for it, any word on what I'm in for?

Wouldn't be my first bike (8 years and 2 other bikes in), just another toy to play with and a learner/loaner for a friend interested in riding after riding bitch a few times on my VTX.
>>
>>16226976
Yeah I've always thought it was just going down gears under hard braking but the amount of sliding I see some guys can get away with, and holding the slide through the corners.

All I've been able to do is a bit of sliding into the corner but never steering through the turn with the back end still trying to catch up with the front. I guess that fine line between wheelspin and a highside is something only skill and experience can touch without getting hurt.

I had an 1984 V30 and it was terrific. I would have kept it, but I'm pretty tall and it's designed for manlets and the Japanese

What you're in for is a great ride that's comfortable and quick. Additionally, you're in for a lot of needlessly complex maintenance where changing the blinker fluid call for a complete disassembly of the motorcycle.

>>
>>16227625
Get used to it.
Accessories like boats become ridiculously more expensive when you throw the world motorcycle on it
>>
>>16227609
Would you expect a rack for a 'busa to fit a grom?
They're bike specific.
If your bike has big changes between models it can also be model specific.
Most racks fit onto the pillion handle mounts or frame mounts.
If you're really good at measurements and technical drawing any decent metal fabricator could make you one for fairly cheap. Just be excellent in your design considering both accuracy and ease of production.
>>
>>16227625
what exactly are you looking to do/install on it?
>>
>>16227576
There is actually a neat litle trick to reach the blinker fluid reservoir without disassembling all of it. If you have tiny hands you can reach the cap from the top and use a funnel with a tube to fill it up. Also use only recommended blinker fluid or else they'll act funky.

luckily I actually had the idea to draft it

I want a rack that attaches to my pillion so I can bungee cord/cargo net stuff to the back, and also so I can easily attach/detach my milk crate to the bike when I need/don't need it.

the picture on the left would allow me to attach a smaller bag to the back

also then I'd be able to attach actual panniers to the bike too

Condition matters. If it sat, do the usual carb clean for anybike that sat if it acts like it needs it.

IF YOU TAKE THE CARBS OFF, TAKE YOUR TIME. I prefer to remove carb and airbox boot clamps to get a bit more clearance and not bend them. Inspect intake boots for cracks, replace if in doubt. They'll be stiff, especially if working outdoors when cold.

When you take those carbs apart, do not tear down past removing the slides, screws, jets and emulsion tubes. If you are used to carb cleaning you'll be fine, and if not take your time.

Buy a JIS screwdriver for the screws. They look like Phillips but JIS are slightly different and avoid stripping screws.

Inspect wiring, change all fluids and enjoy. They are solid machines. The usual 10mm "ignition" wrenches for throttle and enricher cables will come in handy.

You can likely find a factory service manual online. Check the Carl Salter site and Honda forums.

I fucking wallow in ancient shitbikes at my mentorbros shop where I help out for free or vintage parts barter because I enjoy it. He's semi-retired but stays open for the joy of wrenching and more money to build stuff like his 1939 Indian Chief.

>The meme neglectful storage/neglected maintenance issues are actually the worst, especially dirty carbs
>on a bike with four of them

Dirty carbs have gotten me many good deals and made me a fair amount of side money. If I owned a shop they'd make moar.

My carb overhaul kit below. I suggest noobs or casual carb molesters print this list.

Tray to work on, bright LED headlamp with narrow beam, magnifying glass, cheapass SIX point metric 1/4" drive socket set with a screwdriver and spinner ratchet handles, usual small metric combo wrenches, metric "ignition" wrench set, hollow-ground "gunsmith" style screwdriver or similar screwdriver bits, JIS multibit screwdriver, typical multibit screwdriver, set of #60 -90 drill bits for jet drilling, small visegrip to hold bits while spinning jets between thumb and forefinger to drill and debur, RUBBER TIPPED blow gun, a hunk of old throttle cable or bicycle cable (extract one strand as a "jet poker", I don't use welding tip cleaners because they are actually round files), small drill bits and screw extractors for removing EPA mixture plugs, and a five gallon pail I use to soak carbs in undiluted Pine-Sol. I pour the Pine-Sol back into the jug since it's good for a couple or three uses undiluted. You can pour it down the sink and your kitchen will smell like a G.I. party.

Nothing expensive in that list at all. BTW I never use a common wedge-shaped screwdriver on jets.

I use the cheapest carb spray I can find. Walmart toluene works as well or better then ripoff solvents with similar ingredients.

Harbor Freight ultrasonic (vibratory, really) cleaners speed things up and work fine with Pine-Sol. Avoid generic pine oil. Pine-Sol works better.

Hoard all the dead carbs you can stash no matter what bike if you expect to wrench often. Leave them assembled if they are not apart and they make convenient organ donors.
>>
>>16228239
Buell Blast can't whoolie. Dunno why, but no amount of me fucking with it could get it up. Should be easy with a 500cc thumper... but nope, you'd either brake traction with the tiny tire or just accelerate. And this was after I put a 34mm thunderslider carb on it, a straight pipe (25lbsweight savings easy), and chopped a bunch of the weight off, to include the rear tire guard assemby, and the 7 lb airbox shit. (just hung a filer on carb and safety wired it).

you're overthinking this massively. I did my mod 1 about 3 months ago and i remember in all my practise i was doing what you are and trying to work out an order in which to do things. dont bother - just be natural, dodge th cones, it's like a 1 foot swerve, you dont really even need to to turn the bike much, its more of a quick lean left then right (or vice versa) and then use both brakes. overthinking will have been why you failed it the first time

Ended up selling the bike to a retired flat track racer and it's still cruising around the valley here.

Tbh, after chopping it up and putting a decent carb tuned for the straight pipe it wasn't 'that' bad, but still awful. WTF did they expect withh they tood a sportster 1200 motor and destroked it to 1000cc then threw away one of the cylinders and kept the bottom end? Like holy shit that is fucking niggerdly.

Guys, for realsies, even the old flat-tracker fella and I reamed on it for a while in the parking lot when I sold it to him and didn't believe me that it wouldn't do a dank whoolie. It was seriously that bad. I tried everything from jumping on it and slamming down on the rear to trying to use speed bumps. All the weight of that turd was in that bastard of an engine and just too far forward I think.

I loved my pig bike Buell, and I learned alot bout maintenance and how to make small performance upgrades. But overall it was a 1/10 shitter only good for flogging until it became a boat anchor.

An XB9 isn't an effective sportbike (dat Sportster transmission) and isn't a traditional Harley, hence their frequent parting out to improve Sportsters.

I'd do the Honda or the FJ for performance unless you just like Sportsters. Sporties have their vintage charm and are simple. You could get a cheap Sporty with some looking.

Mid-career is most boring. Last couple years before twenty is slightly stressful. After 20 a halo descends upon you when you internalize that you can turn down PCS orders and take your earned, deferred compensation.

Mentor the noobs, be as much of the change you'd like to see as practical, and then go live the rest of your life.

After .mil saturation most folks have a year or three of adapting, but becoming a professional student is a cool way to decompress and you'll soak up info because you are so used to training environments.

I like to see active duty and veterans browsing 4chan. I've noticed near zero maggots. :)

Every time I see this video I just cannot fathom why the many, MANY retarded errors were made.

1. Why is the passenger dismounting in the middle of the fucking street?
2. Why does the rider not just use the fucking brake?
3. Why does the rider fucking accelerate with the passenger hanging off the side of the bike?
4. Why isn't the dumbfuck passenger wearing a full face helmet? Not just for riding, mind you, but for surviving life in general if they're as retarded as the video would suggest?

And so on, and so on.

theyre probably both new. the rider took forever to shut off his bike and put the kickstand down, and had no control when riding. the passenger should have known to not put her feet down at a stop.

1. probably spotted a burger king
2. cruisers don't use the front brake and for rear he had to remove his foot from the ground and lose balance
3. he probably spotted the burger king at this point too
4. because it's the cruiser lifestyle and you're not a true cruiserloser if you wear a fullface

>tl;dr americans
>>
>>16229095
Don't worry, I was thinking about doing that anyway. I just don't know if I'll have the time to come to the actual meet if it's in late July / early August again, because exams (the last ones ever, hooray!)

>>
>>16229218
Fair enough.
I ride a pigfat cruiser and mainly use the front brake (~75/25 split) and downshift through the gears during decel. Wish it was a double disc instead of a single, it's enough of a fat fuck to warrant it.
Fair enough.
Harley's aren't cruisers, they're rolling scrap. Same with Harleyfags, with the "rolling" often being literal even without wheels under them.

See: >>16229357 Apollo 13 for quality and feels.
See Apollo 18 for almost B-movie tier horror though not as campy as that would suggest.
No, the movies are not related.

Dragonheart if you're some kind of manchild faggot like me. Avoid the sequels unless you were on the fence about committing suicide and just needed some convincing to go through with it.
