Why does everyone love the P888 so much? Is it the best tire

RA1 a driver's tire. R888's outright faster though.

Grip no better than max performance street tires until you get heat in them, which won't occur off the track

Yokohama Advan AD08R seems to be the best street/track tire, R888 might be better as a track/street tire.
For street you want tires that don't need a lot of heat to grip, you want good wet traction, you want good comfort with low noise and high thread wear.
I never drive hard long enough to get any heat what so ever into my tires, so getting something like the r888 would be a waste in my case.
