Don't want to defend the BMW but I've never ever seen a crash like this where the car behind wasn't much more damaged than the car in front of it.

The rear-ending car usually gets far more reckt than the car it rear-ends.

Not even that, 90% of the time the car's bumper doing the rearending goes under the vehicle it's hitting.

same happened with my pajero. fucker in some shitty nissan or opel rear ended me on the highway and I only got my clear coat scratched and some plastic chipped. His whole front end was missing up to the point it cracked his windshield.
