Just got a 98 Town Car Cartier with only 65,000 miles on it. I am in love. (Not mine, but very similar). Anyone else on the unstoppable Lincoln/landbarge train??

Is there any other semi recent landbarge aside the fleetwood, the roadmaster, and the lexus ls. Also if its fwd its not a landbarge.

Would you consider the MKZ a land barge?

It's larger than its competitors

I might get a continental when they depreciate under 20 which should be like a year

I know a chance like this will never come again for a price like it did. 2 years later and I'm still mad and carless. Nice car anon by the way.

when the new contis do depreciate, we will be in a new era of cheap barges <3
>>
>>16219672
Not really. They were also really fucking awful engines period, basically a Rocket 350 gasoline engine that they kludged into a diesel engine. Lots of known failure points and few of them were ever taken care of properly because everyone including the mechanics serviced them like a normal gas engine.
>>
>>16219514
I didnt mention them because they are a meme(not in a bad way) here.

I used to have a Mark VIII. I loved that thing, despite its flaws. The electrical system and air ride system were utter shit and had to eventually sell it due to too many bugs popping up. None of the door sensors worked right, the ignition coils were always failing, had to replace the air compressor twice, has to replace multiple air shocks, the gauge cluster would stop working sporadically...

It was a great car that was built poorly.

Man, I feel sorry for high mileage Mark VIII owners.
My Mark VII has really low miles and a motor that is cheap as fuck.

All the mark VIIIs have been ran up on the odometer because they were phenomenal cars until shit started shorting out and the bags needed replacement.
Speaking of which, I replaced my bags, shit so easy I didn't even have to take my wheels off.

It really does, but surprisingly it has a 4.6L 4 Valve motor on it.
It's very quick, and came out with 280 horsepower in 1993. Some stories claim it would do 170 with near stock. Mirrors removed, lowered, and speed tape.
Quite an impressive car if it wasn't so fucking ugly, fat, and American for most of the people here.

The 90's Caprice is an underrated landbarge IMO. Shame people didnt like it's styling at the time.
>>
>>16219217
no. just a large sedan.

Land barge is a very specific combination of very long and large car, with a large lazy V8 in the front, and RWD. Styling varies, but more often than not it follows some variation of 3 box design, where the trunk and hood are a seperate entity from the cabin, unlike most cars today that integrate the trunk into the cabin in an attempt to emulate coupe styling (think ford fusion, for example)
>>
>>16222027
mark VII is an underrated car. I briefly looked for one alongside typical town cars and GrM's
>>
>>16223637
True Land barges died in 77 and 79, the B body, and Panther however lived on in spirit with under powered v8's (at least until the LT1 for GM), ancient BOF construction, live axle RWD, ect...

depends what you consider fun. I have fun driving my Grand Marquis, but really for psychological reasons. When everyone around you is a bar of soap or 4 cylinder shitbox, having a gargantuan car with the trunkspace for about 5 dead bodies and the heart of a sleepy mustang with the power to back it up, and the comfort of a couch on wheels, it's a special kind of feeling. I get a big grin on my face when i drive it.

There's someone at my job that has a Prius with a Bernie Sanders bumper sticker, and I like to park near them for the psychological high of parking my big powerful American V8 boat next to their commie shitbox.

Call it autism, but fuck the car is satisfying to drive.

Also column shifters are underrated, imo.

>Panther however lived on in spirit with under powered v8's (at least until the LT1 for GM), ancient BOF construction, live axle RWD, ect...
Don't forget column shifts, bench seats, multiple cigarette lighters and ash trays for everyone, a trunk you can store a subcompact in, and body panel gaps you can stick your dick through.

I always thought aero vic's looked better, and had the better interior. Obviously the 94-96 B bodies had the much better engine.

My buddy in college had a rotted out 93 roadmaster, straight piped L05, pretty much the /o/ wet dream
>>
>>16221189
because nobody wanted it. the early 90's caprice was soundly beaten by the Crown Vic in all areas. SPECIFICALLY in fleet use, which is the sole reason the Panther lasted as long as it did.

they stopped making Caprices in the mid 90's because their mid sized cars sold better, and demand shifted from large sedans to SUV's, along with GM already being in financial trouble, which meant they couldnt afford to keep trying to keep it alive.

Also at the time, reviewers didnt like it's styling, and said it looked like a "beached whale".

they really do not resemble each other at all. And Aerovics were smaller than the caprice. Certainly shorter. And their styling particularly in the front was what sold them. they looked like aerodynamic sedans. the styling was also based on the Taurus, which had been a massive hit.
>>
>>16220530
I've never heard of Mark VIIIs having more serious electrical problems than any other comparable car. I drive one myself, and while you need to replace the bags every 15 years (fronts are including the shock absorbers that you would replace around that time anyway), the car has no real weakness. They are excellent cars, especially for what you are paying for one at the moment.
>>
>>16223716
Nobody wanted it? Beaten by the Crown Vic in all areas? What the hell are you smoking?

>>16223814
It's not a problem specific to Mark 8's. My Mark 8 that I talked about up there only had 70k miles on it when all that shit started happening, which is rather ridiculous. Also my mom had a Continental around the same year as well as a Mark 7 that both had a lot of the same electrical issues. They just had really shitty electrical systems in general.

$1400 is a pretty good price. What's it's condition? Does it have pics? what can you tell from them? anything the owner notes?

IMO, the Town Car peaked with the second gen's design. It's really a great design. Only thing I can say about Towncars is that i think they have their own unique shit compared to the Crown Vic and Grand Marq. (I say this out of my ass, just because the crown vic and GrM share the same repair manual but the Town Car isn't included. any people who actually know things feel free to correct me)

if it's in good shape with no major issues you can't go wrong with at least a test drive to see how it's doing, then maybe sealing the deal if you like it.

Common issue is a sagging rear suspension, because that will invariably go bad, and so when you turn the car on you have to wait a bit for the air shocks to inflate, but it's honestly ignorable, and it can be fixed by yourself if you buy a new pair of the things.
>>
>>16228886

I've been looking for a decent B-Body barge FOREVER. Unfortunately the ones I find for sale are always
-in a state of deep derepair (i.e. blown motor, tranny, or covered in rust)
-donked and modded by nig nogs to the point of no return
-in meticulous shape, but owner is asking some ridiculous 5 figure price because "muh rare classic kar"
a few nice ones show up every once in a while but someone else buys it or the owner doesn't respond to any messages about the car
>>
>>16230440
>Only thing I can say about Towncars is that i think they have their own unique shit compared to the Crown Vic and Grand Marq. (I say this out of my ass, just because the crown vic and GrM share the same repair manual but the Town Car isn't included. any people who actually know things feel free to correct me)
You're correct- Grand Marquis and Crown Victorias share tons of parts, up to and including interior trim parts and entire body panels depending on year, while Town Cars tend to have lots of little 'luxury' details that are unique to the car, and body parts can't be changed around as easily. This is especially true from 03 onwards where the CV and MGM got even more similar, while the Town Car branched off into the rounded abortion-mobile in an attempt to call itself luxury.

The drivetrains are the same, but Town Cars are also more likely to have the luxury shit you don't want, like the air bad suspension that will always, ALWAYS go bad and require replacement.

All of them could be had with airbags, it's just a matter of market segment. If you're buying a Town Car you're already getting the luxury variant, and you're probably going all out with the bells and whistles while you're at it.

It feels like somewhere in development they mixed it up and gave the next gen Town Car's rear end to the Grand Marquis, and to save face and not have the same rear end on the Town Car, they just removed the connecting bar.

Which is worse, because instead it now resembles a Crown Vic.

They should have done this instead
>>
>>16231022
Shit, I can completely see what you mean. Also I love the older Marquis with the full width reflectors like that- it's funny how you can clearly see the chrome strip above the license plate get smaller with each generation.

>Box Marquis: Wraps around the entire taillight assembly, down the sides and across the bottom
>Aero Marquis: Wraps around the entire taillight assembly, stops at the corners
>Whale Marquis 98-02: Strip across the top of the plate, cuts into the brakelights
>Whale Marquis 03+: Strip doesn't even reach the brakelights and the cool tilted reflector strips are gone, eventually the reflector areas themselves disappear so it looks just like a Crown Vic

I really don't like the chrome strip on the 03+ models, it just looks retarded how it stops before it even reaches the end of the reflectors and has that weird curve up that doesn't line up with anything.

IMO the front end on the older ones looks better as well, still having its own identity and heavily resembling the aero Marquis without being forced into the short Crown Vic style headlights. Although I might be biased due to owning an '01 myself.

Keep the deville it's worth more to have than to sell. You get 2k for it on a good day if it's mint.
>>
>>16231093
no, as an '03 owner I agree with you. the pre 03 GM looks best.

My parents had one. It was kinda a pain when they had a lot of people over because inevitably someone would get parked in.

Exactly. Too small. It's a midsize sedan

The best part about land barges is discussing exactly how little power they make.

>yeah it's got the 4.6, like the mustang GTs
>cool! how much power does it make?
>[laughter]

>is it at least good on gas?
>[continued laughter]

What do all those buttons on the dash do? Digital dashboard readout?
>>
>>16231916
No.
>>
>>16231918
Yes, digital dash, many options for the buttons from date and time, mileage, kmh/mph, average speed, "ETA" and other VERY tedious things.

Any pics of it all lit up? I've got the digidash in my 01 MGM but it would weird me out having it split into segments like that.
>>
>>16231946
No, sadly. It wouldnt look all that well anyways cause my fuel sensor is fucked and it doesnt show on display. So I have to write down all of my mileage and I get AROUND 250 miles to a tank. Every now and then, the fuel display will try to light up during startup but eventually dies out. I have had this thing for over a year now and STILL have no clue what the problem is. Oh well
>>
>>16227858
Probably because there is literally no objective reason to use a V8 in a comfy car nowadays.
>>
>>16231955
have you tried a mechanic? sounds stupid, but you never know.

what do you suppose would happen if you took it in to ford and asked them to look at it?

having a busted fuel sensor sounds totally tedious to calculate milage

Stancefags need to die.

This would look good if it was stock ride height.

So would ypur ball caps if the bill wasn't flat.

Nippon land barges always win.
>>
>>16219816
No

You will be in an era of niggers ruining any brand value that ford was able to salvage in the Lincoln nameplate.

Those things are the new 300c.

good luck with that.
>>
>>16232784
its not as hard to drive a v8 powered car like other poorfags are trying to show you(they really can't afford cars with larger engines than 1.4), 95% of people in europe don't give a fuck about cars so they want them to be cheap as possible to mantain and there are a few people like me. But you really can't have a v8 if you live in a cuck country like sweden and netherlands.
>>
>>16221015
Op here,

Y33s are almost too nice to count. Almost.
>>
>>16231886
All w140 chassis cars in the states have been abused and ruined by niggers at this point
>>
I wish landbarges like those of yore would come back some day. but that would be wishful thinking in this future of safety bubbles and rear view cameras.

boy what a time to be alive, when the shitty future from Demolition Man actually looks like a better future than the current path the future is headed.
>>
>>16234052
I'd live in the Demolition Man future if it meant I got to drive that sweet red 442.
>>
>>16234052
imo safety foam is a way better alternative to cramming airbags everywhere. why haven't we gotten on that
