Bore sizes?
Carburation?
Gear box issues?

Best selection for a daily driven hot vw

not a Beetle then.

The amount of money it'll take to get that shitbox to handle modern speeds is more than the cost of a Subaru engine.
>>
>>16215881
Which isn't that expensive anyway. I know it's always at a loss ultimately we are going to die. Still, they can look pretty neat and tidy

without water cooling that thing is going to strand you on the side of the road.
>>
>>16215783
I have a beetle and hot rodded it. Shit is easy to get a fast dd, air-cooled vw's are one the the best platforms. Don't listen to this uneducated shitlords.

What's the budget? Take the goal horsepower you have in mind, multiply it by 20. That's the price of parts to get your engine there
>>
>>16216018
You can get deeper sumps and upgrade the oil filteration, if it's done properly over heating isn't an issue. Ignited petrol fumes might be though..
>>
>>16216018
Oh please, there's a million ways to keep these engines cool. Expanded sumps, high pressure pumps, doghouse cooler, undercarriage cooler, balanced fan, power pulley, and so on. Don't start spouting that radiator fag bs on this good Christian VW thread

These engines won't overheat until about 550 degrees, when the oil starts boiling.

You need to worry about engine longevity, especially from something so tuned as to be highway capable.
before you fags start memeing, i own a Corvair so i know the struggle.
>>
I had a fully exposed engine on my vw and it always ran cool.

>>16216073
No lid?

>>16216073
removing the engine shroud is not a good idea.

Basically the stock transaxle can handle up to 200 hp plus with better shifter and axles.

Bore is the perfect way to add power if you don't want to mess with the short block. Slip-ins are a thinner walled barrel that give you more displacement but don't require case machining. You want more bore, you'll have to machine the case.

Speaking of the case if you want more than 100 hp you'll need to split it. The stock crank is a shallow stroke and isn't counterweighted so it will flex at high rpm or power. Get a good forged stroker that's cw'd and throw a nice cam in while you're there.

Carbs are always a great bolt on. Especially dual ones. Single carb on a flat 4 means MASSIVE intake runners which hinder delivery. IDF's for street use.

Good flowing heads are always good, and just bolt on. Make sure to get some high performance springs for your valves. The stock ones float at 4500 or so.

There's plenty of other little stuff but there's so much info out there. I'm glad to spew more too.

Pic is my bug: with a 2276cc 200hp built by me block up.

>>16216065
260 degrees is overheating for a vw with the right oil. Educate yourself shitlord.
>>
>>16216073
Removing the lid is actually fine as long as your engine tin and rubber is in place. The tin keep cold outside air on top, and makes sure the fan housing is the only way for that air to pass down through the engine (over the finned barrels). Some actually lift the top of their lid to scoop more air in forcefully, plus it's cal look
>>
>>16216085
Ooh 2276, looks stock height as well
>>
>>16216092
wow lmao what a piece of shit.

Corvairs running temp at like 420 degrees.
>>
>>16216124
It is, I wanted to keep it looking completely stock. The 2276 is as big as any sane man dares go (2332s blow up). But I might turbo it down the line

Covair owner calling beetle piece of shit. When the covair was a failure cuck copy of VW's perfect car. What planet do you live on?
>>
>>16216139
>22 sec 0-60
>perfect
k

i've seen more beetles sitting on the side of the road than any single other car, because their owners thought the puny little engine could handle the highway.
Air cooling is not that great to begin with, if you plan on staying over 45 mph for any length of time you should have a plethora of spare parts in the trunk ready to go.
>>
>>16216147
Corvairs cost a little more than half of beetles brand new, but still managed to cost more after 3 years of ownership than the beetle due to repair costs. And you want to talk about breaking down?

Plus that slow time comes from restrictive carbing from the factory that gives fuel economy and reliability. The covair guzzles fucking gas even in Na form.

If the beetle was so shit how come they made them for 50 years and made 23 million in Wolfsburg alone.

The covair has 0 redeeming qualities and only now after writing this do I start to question if you're just shitposting.
>>
>>16216135
I bet it jumps up when your foot goes down. Did you change the brakes or suspension? My 1200s at stock height even then wallowed if I pushed it. >2ltr without lowering and chunky anti roll bars on stock wheels sounds worrying

DO NOT mod a 1200. Waste of time. Start with a 1600 dual port as a base.

I have discs in the front, and super low maxX struts for the front (adjusted to stock height) with a nice bar. Also have a strut tower brace. With all this talk of struts It may be obvious I have a super... It handles the power fine.
>>
>>16216085
Is this a Macpherson strut beetle or beam and leaf?
>>
>>16216220
The 1302, I forgot about that model
>>
>>16216231
It's a 1971 SUPER Beetle, which has the main feature of MacPherson struts

Also take this, has some REALLY solid builds no matter your budget. You don't need to go nearly as far as me for some extra pep

That someone did that to a beetle it's really sad. I've seen a few rat rod beetles done well before but holy crap

Also Wizard kit beetles!
>>
For some reason Japanese custom beetles are some of the best, they have an individual aesthetic. The dkp beetles can get a bit borring.
>>
>>16216173
>And you want to talk about breaking down?
i've dailyed mine, even through a flood stream tall enough to cover my headlights and it has never let me down.

>Plus that slow time comes from restrictive carbing from the factory that gives fuel economy and reliability.
nah that's because it was a sub 2 liter pushrod flat four.

>The covair guzzles fucking gas even in Na form.
No it doesn't, mine gets a consistent 22 mpg outside of town and that's at like 4k rpm because 13 inch wheels.

>
If the beetle was so shit how come they made them for 50 years and made 23 million in Wolfsburg alone.
Because it was the only thing available to poorfags like Mexico.

>The covair has 0 redeeming qualities
aside from all the redeeming qualities.

>>16216190
>I'm sorry I can't hear you over your corvairs crashing from having jiffy lube top off the tire pressure
i keep all four tires even. Radials are a godsend to the handling and keeping the spare tire in the frunk helps very much.

Honestly it was really cool. Needed new floors, brakes, and lights; but it had an awesome engine that could do 3rd gear scratches, push to start, and 60s vw racing wheels. Plus camber on the rear wheels, air ride, and sat 1 inch off the ground.
