So I've been browsing for some cheap cars on craiglist, the problem is that most of the cars there have over 100k+ miles and sometimes 150k, I'm wondering at what mileage do you usually need to replace the engine or what mileage does it usually break down and needs new parts.

>at what mileage do you usually need to replace the engine
When it suffers catastrophic failure and can't be rebuilt. Most can easily last 200k with normal maintenance, unless we're talking VAG stuff which breaks down right when the warranty ends.

Are you retarded? Seriously, are you retarded?
Most of the major manufacturer's lineups will go past 150k. Think replacing the engine at 450k.
Sage because you're fucking stupid.

240K or more on most engines.
>>
Entirely depends on the engine and how the car was maintained.

this
>was looking for some good cylinder heads
>about $300 no matter where i went
>asked about already pulled used engines on pallets
>sub 150k models for less than $600
normies wreck their nice vehicles and sell them to salvage yards for scrap metal prices all the time, you will almost always find a whole new engine that had fewer miles than yours to rebuild or even just swap in

this but I wouldn't expect less than 250k from a properly cared for engine.

DD has 190k with only regular maintenance, an alternator, a power steering hose and a starter. got it at 62k

I'd say 1,000,000 miles is where you should start thinking about it.

But for Volvo's, 3,000,000 is the area.

Never. If you've neglected it enough to put a hole in the block you should probably kill yourself. This doesn't happen to well maintained vehicles.

This. Unless your going for a performance build usually you can get a good engine with lower miles for the same or cheaper than paying to have it rebuilt. Especially on 90s shit boxes
