Lets say you had a vehicle that was worth around 1400 bucks on your local market. A retired mechanic friend offers you 1800 bucks, on the condition that you use at least 1000 of that money to buy off some of his old tools.
Assuming the mechanic has nearly every imaginable piece of equipment: What tools would you get /o/?
Air compressor if he has it. Or a cutting torch (basically oxyacetylene). You need one or both if you live in a salt state. Use any money left to buy impact sockets and any old Dewalt drills or other older power tools. They made them quality then and not for bottom dollar now

I'd tell him to fuck off since he's basically getting the car with a $600 discount.

Good ideas for sure.
>old Dewalt drills
I assume you're talking about the ones made before battery packs? Any idea what year they started to go downhill?

Fair enough. In my situation I'd be buying more than 600 in tools anyway, so I might as well get a discount.

tell him to price the tools FIRST.
Then get
>impact gun/sockets
>air compressor
>high end torque wrench (digital)
>ball joint tool
>electric screw drivers/drills
If the prices are very reasonable compared to new, do it. You lose $600 in potential cash (assuming it even sells), but get $2-$3k worth of tools for $1k. If he doesn't dicount the tools then who cares.
Also, snap-on, matco, etc have free exchanges if they break for lifetime. Just have to drop them off at one of the trucks (they are at the shops every week).

Good info, I'll be on the lookout.
