get ready to learn how to work on volvos if you do.
that's a sedan/saloon not an estate.

not a bad price.. but make sure:
*the timing belt has been changed recently
*the PCV system has been serviced in the last 3 years or so
*the charge pipes aren't coated in oil (a little oil film is okay)
>first things to do:
*Tuneup (new plugs, wires, dizzy cap and rotor)
*get a v70 TCV,; stock 850 one is 8-10 psi of boost, v70 one is a pierburg and rated to around 10-12
*flush the ATF
*watch based robert talk about p80s

Going to be driving in shit conditions, lots of snow. Should I go for a 850 Sedan or the station wagon? Want the station wagon for use like a small truck, but I'm worried the weight on the back might make the FWD shit in snow

also best thing with owning a old Volvo, is that you get to watch comfy robert´s vids.

They're Scandinavian, built for snow. It should feel right at home.

it wont make any difference. If one has the tracs system go for that though. mine spins tires pretty easily when the turbo spools, even with goodyear studded tires. if you put some chains on they even do a decent job as a snowplow.
99 s70 glt owner here.
>inb4 ETM
mine is auto too but they're great cars if you do the proper maintenance of course. watch out for the ABS module which is known to fail.
Saw this 97 850 for $1400, would it make a good shitbox for my first car or is the maintenance really that expensive?
There is also a 97 S70 for $1k

>he doesn't know that max torque is at 2.5k RPM
there's a reason it has a winter mode try using it
>had to go up a slippery wet 9% grade driveway constantly
>if I didn't put it in winter mode i would always chirp tires
>>16200618
>he doesn't know about the bad soldering
the unit solenoids are fine the board just got cold soldered
>>16200643
if you can figure out how to do it yourself it isnt bad but taking it to a shop will get expensive quick. Maintenance is a lot less of a hassle on non turbo cars but they're slow and usually not optioned as well.
>>16200643
not a terrible price.
get the s70 tho, updated version of the same ca
>'97 s70
are U in canada? US model s70s started in '98
if u are in canada just wait until a manual appears
>>16200682
>turbo maintenance is a hassle
uhh it's just more frequent oil changes br/o/
>>16200694
Nah man I'm American, I'm just going by what the listing said.

tries to tell me about winter driving.
>>16200502 wasn't a witty filename. That was driving home from work.
>wintermode
>making the car take off in 3rd
I only use it if it's a super slick intersection and turn it off as soon as I'm doing about 10.
You seem pretty condescending for a Vobro, You might want to trade it for an Audi.
>>16200698
no they gum up the pcv worse, especially if full synthetic wasn't used. There is charge piping, oil and coolant lines to and from the turbo, the turbo itself. more stuff in the way, heat rotted vacuum lines, bad compressor bypass valve diaphragms, burnt up turbo control valves. much more likely to be hooned and have hammered motor and trans mounts.
These cars are 20 years old now and every single one needs some love somewhere.
>>16200780
plz, get defensive like you always do
>and go put diesel into something the doesn't need it
>>16200810
>vehicle repair =/= vehicle maintenance
you forgot extra varnishing of the IAC u fgt
>>16200848
what the fuck did I put diesel in? only my work truck and my bobcat run on oil.
I think you're confused sir. And I still think you sound rude.
>>16200848
You'll be doing repairs as well. I suppose you're right though.
pubescent boys, always getting their panties in a bunch.
Speaking of Volvos, would any of you recommend I get this? I've gotten really into the look of some Volvo wagons and they seem so hard to find. I've read a lot about repair nightmares with Volvos but maybe I could deal with it anyway.
Any opinions?
