Long story short I met some dipshit in an F30 3 series halfway onto my side of the road this morning who proceeded to relieve me of my driver side mirror, before fucking off.
However, they did leave behind the cover of their mirror, which has all kinds of bar codes and QR codes and serial numbers inside.
If I take this part to the local dealer, and somebody shows up in said car to repair their mirror, would it be easy to prove that part comes from their car by matching up the serial numbers on the mirror/any other part on the car?
tl;dr can you match a part to a car from the serial numbers on said part?

yes you can just go to the dealer and they will look up the part or google it u zoz

the police have people dedicated to hit and run's. It might not be the best option, and certainly wont be the fastest, but you would be suprised that the sun shines on a dogs ass every once in a while.
Its worth a shot, and you will need the police statement any way for the insurance company for whoever is fixing this....unless youre out of pocket.
just a thought.

Who knows.
You can report the event to your insurance and provide their mirror as proof, at least.
Basically, that you were able to pick up their mirror means you stopped after the fact, and they didn't. In insurance terms, that's a he-said, nobody-replied accusation. Should work in your favour.

Yeah I might go down that route, I'm not too bothered about going through insurance as it's a business car so it's not my policy, hell I can even forgive them for their fuck up and hitting me, I'm just pissed off that they then fled the scene leaving me to pick up the pieces. I'll call the police tomorrow and maybe swing by the dealer too.
