Why would you want a 3rd gen Twingo though? IMO it's much worse than the original and the only redeeming quality is that it has a RR layout which you don't make use of that often. Well you do, since it allows for an insane steering angle. But it takes away trunk space. The new Twingo is only a city driving car really.

Didn't think to do so

That's actually a real curse.

Once you have one, it gets harder to get rid of that car each day if you someday decide you want to get something else.
Many end up keeping it as second car or keep it in the garden somewhere.

It is some early model, 93 to 95 I would say.
But still, not 25 year old. How did he managed to import it?

Just came across the ultimate Twingo.

Very last model, ultimate trim level, low millage.
All options and the super rare leather steering wheel.

Turbo, engine swap in a larger displacement i4, for example the renault 1.4T or some madman fit a 2.0 from the Clio. With fabbing and maybe moving the firewall a bit, you could cram a bunch of things in there.

Good engineering. Most small cars are small on the inside but not Twingo.
>>16196339
I've seen some K4J swaps (Renault 1.4 16v). I was thinking of borrowing my mom's Megane and somehow rear ending it and totalling everything except the engine and then swap it into my Twingo but I rejected that idea for obvious reasons.
A meme swap would be the 1.4T from Renault 5, appearently it bolts right in. If you manage to get the 16v version (which you will not because 1999+) you could try swapping the D4FT from the new models. The 1.2 16v D4F engine is still used to this day and there's a turbocharged version that makes 100hp if I'm not mistaken.
You can try pic related for shits and giggles.

I've been thinking of redoing the headliner, painting the grey dash and center console black, and putting in fiberoptic wire for a star roof, and the wrap would go really well woth the aesthetic. nope it's still exactly the same as in this months old pic. (except it's got more stickers on the trunk, i buy local town stickers everywhere i go with it and stick them on the trunk lid) i've just been driving it everywhere and doing regular maintenance. 0 problems to report so far, i cant believe how reliable this thing has been

i got a green metallic Perrier limited foglight button i pulled at the junkyard tho.

i wouldn't paint interior parts, it always ends up looking like shit in my experience. there are some vinyl sticker kits for the twingo interior on the internet however. i've been debating putting some fake wood grain. but i'm weird and i'm the only person under 40 that likes wood grain in his cars.

i honestly expected shit reliability as this car belonged to the french highway maintenance company for the first 10 years of its life, and then was sold to someone in a poor-ass ghetto town. this is how it was when i got it. turns out it was actually mechanically sound. the ONLY thing i had to do to it was front brake pads when i got it (13 euros). other than that, oil, filters and other maintenance items. oh and an accessory belt just to be safe before taking off for a 500km roadtrip to norway, but it was just for peace of mind

paid 90 bucks for the registration (which is still too expensive as it's half the price of the whole car. for a piece of paper.)

there were some of those orange twungis that were equipped with LPG tho so be careful when buying. or don't if you like LPG, i personally didnt want it since i have some experience with troubleshooting/fixing LPG systems and they're a pain in the ass to fix (and expensive). + special, more expensive inspection. the twingo drinks E85 anyway, 15 euro fill up for the win

I really liked the design on the twingo that crossed the outback, was considering paying my cousin to paint mine with stars and shit, or make it look tropical, it could go either way since it's sort of a dull blue. And of course cover it in a clear coat to protect it. Anyone have experience painting stuff on cars?

Tons of driving noobs wrapped around trees or landed in ditches as punishment for riding blank rubber.

It's really important to have good tires on old Twingos, otherwise this happens.

Most people in general don't like the Twingo and say it's ugly. I honestly don't see a single reason to buy a shitbox Golf when you can have a Twingo for the same amount of money that's going to cost much less in the end and be just as if not more practical.

In my experience women/girls who hate driving a Twingo are mostly spoiled brats who want to drive something more expensive and something with more prestige ("I want an Audi A1!!!!!!!!!!").

The ones I got to know who still enjoy their old Twingos are mostly really down to earth and cool.
And then there are some super hyped girls like this who're really euphoric about their Twingo.

I'm tempted to try different aerodynamic optimizations with a Twingo.
It's so fucking light that you could probably achieve something.

The game would be called: Optimize the aerodynamics to get the Twingo over the 200km/h mark with aero optimization alone and on even road, no decline.

my theory is: Twingo designers were aware that releasing car with such short bonnet to the public will raise questions about crash safety. They made sure twingo is much tougher than any older small car (106, AX, Saxo, old polo or corsa A) and matched with other early 90's designs like Corsa C or Polo 6N.

It's not that they cared about safety in general:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JreLL9M1d8A
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1ZQjvpprKI
bigger clio from the same era looks like a deathtrap to me.
Potential bad press due to safety issues was a serious threat to the whole project. Competition would not hesitate to kill twingo sales basing on people fears. If only they had arguments in this field.
We have to remember that crash safety didn't become a hot topic until late 90's.

This is just my theory. I am basing it on similar case - introduction of first generation smart. There were clips of smarts ramming into concrete block or cutaway cars in the shopping malls. Tons of marketing and PR efforts to make sure nobody said "I ain't buying that cause it doesn't look safe to me"

many parts are but usually rather with other renault cars of the same era. also original parts are dirt cheap.

yeah, they're bulletproof but you have to do basic maintenance like on every other car (but in this case for literally a couple bucks) and you shouldn't buy one that is already rusting to the ground or has transmission/engine problems because of neglect.
>>
>>16224485
The engine bay is small, but there's hardly anything in there to begin with. Shares some parts with the Clio and probably some of the 2nd gen as well, but they made so goddamn many of them that Twingo-specific parts shouldn't be a problem at all, both availability- and cost-wise.

I'm a bit of a benchracer, but I've been slowly saving up money to buy a fun (Whatever that means in my head, I don't know.) car to replace my current soulless piece of shit. Technically the twingo would be a downgrade but seeing one makes me so happy I kinda want to own one, it consumes fuck all for fuel as well which would save me a lot of money for other useless crap. They're easily within my budget, too.

Is a twingo actually worth it?
>>
>>16228242
The Twingo can save you a lot of money in fuel consumption and maintainance compared to other cars and may save your next "fun car" from salt in the winter if you buy one later.

>>
>>16228242
it's awesome but don't expect any performance if you don't plan to tune it. it's sufficient for commuting and it's peppy "enough" (the 75hp one is actually quite decent in this 850kg car).

but it might not be the "fun" you're looking for if you're into performance.
>>
So the D4F (16V engine) is still used in turbo form to this day (D4FT, puts out 100hp), has anyone ever tried to put one of those into a Twingo?

TWINGO GETTING HIGH ON CAPPUCCINO IN JAPAN
>>
>>16228705
Good question.
So far I've seen people only putting the 1.4t into them or the 2.0 NA
>>
>>16228715
I guess I can see why, the D4FT only gives a 25hp boost over the regular 16V whereas the 1.4T and 2.0 give 100+hp extra for similar effort.
Still, I doubt the D4FT is at its limit already and it might be an easier swap for a later model Twingo.

I'd love to tackle it myself, honestly.
>>
>>16207412
Merci, Twingo
>>
>>16228749
the D4F usually reach 300k km without major problems so I guess it should be possible to push it a lot further and turbo it to 180 or 200hp if you're okay with it shitting the bed at 200k km (or maybe it will even reach 300k or more, who knows)
>>
>>16228776
After a bit of reading I found a stock D4FT can go up to about 170hp with an exhaust, new manifolds, bigger turbo, intercooler etcetera. Forged rods and even pistons are available, don't know how much power you could make with those but definitely over 200.

At this point I'm just curious about getting the D4FT into a 1st gen Twingo though, it's not like you need much power to get one moving.

My main concern with a tarbo would be the placement, I own the 16v model and the engine bay is pretty tightly packed, I could fit a cold air intake in it but that's about it. If you wanted to put a tarbo in it you'd have to move a lot elsewhere like the battery, some of the fluids, etc. and then I could see it being much more feasible. I could be talking complete bollocks because I've never tried to fit a tarboed engine in there, but from the poking around and fixing stuff I have done, it does seem like it would be very hard to get anything else in there.

Now I've been meaning to ask /o/ this for a while, but if I understand correctly, you could swap any carb engine with any other carb engine (assuming you have the space/suitable transmission, etc) because you don't have to dick around with the ECU, correct? So what would happen if I ripped out pretty much all the electronics (power steering and such included) and put a carb engine in a twingo? Would this work, in theory, or would it be a huge pain in the ass and not even worth considering?
>>
>>16229071
>My main concern with a tarbo would be the placement,

GO FULL RICE.

I mean it.
Just place the fucking tarbo on top of the block and hammer a giant scoop on the hood to make the hood close over the tarbo. No shits given.

According to this animation, the tarbo is placed right at the back of the engine. It's also adorably tiny.
