I'm buying it on rock auto, so the cheap ones are oem "spec" the actual denso oem pump is too expensive right now at about 200, and I'll upgrade eventually anyway once I'm back on my feet. My end goal is to be faster than brand new base v8 challengers.

Would it be completely Haram to cut a hole in my trunk so I can change the fuel pump without dropping the tank? I'd make a new trap door to replace the old one of course. I'm just annoyed that they put a hole here, but made it so you can only get to the sender.

I could get a RHD 1JZ GTE Soarer in 5 Speed but I love the SC400's Raw NA 1UZ V8.

I could get a cheap SC400 and swap in an R154 or W58 and just gut the fuck out of it, throw away the heavy seats for buckets, add some ITBs, and an LS400 big brake kit and that would be pretty badass.
>>
>>16158838

I'm torn between these 2 choices, the Soarer is 276HP stock but the SC400 is 250 but NA.

I prefer not to mess with turbos and their problems though.
>>
>>16158850
I'd go 1UZ

1UZFE1.jpg
67KB, 620x620px
>>16158897

I'm leaning towards the 1UZ for that NA power and bulletproof reliability and it would sound so badass with ITBs and straight piped.
>>
>>16158998
Thing would sound so raw.

And correct me if i'm wrong but I think the later models had more power than the 1jz gte?
>>
>>16159036
Very close but not more.
Australians i need a cruiser to get me from Melbourne to Horsham every fortnight, Should i go the UZ or 1J?
>>
>>16159053
Isn't the gas mileage about the same? UZ cunt
>>
>>16159053
Pretty far drive, 1UZ would be better for the reliability
>>
>>16158998

I think so? the GS400 had around 300HP, I don't know if the Gentlemen's Agreement applied to the Soarer.

But late model SC400s are as rare as hen's teeth here.
>>
>>16159126
My 99' SC makes 290hp stock, the GS had 10 more because of the exhaust manifold or something from what i've read.
>>
>>16159070
>>16159056
How well does a 1UZ respond to a small supercharger to up it a little? Not a dealbreaker i'm eyeing a 32 for the 4WS and stock head unit being fucking rad.
>>
>>16159282
I haven't seen too many supercharged 1UZ's to be honest.

I think it'd hold up pretty well though
>>
>>16158850
I have an SC400, it's lit. Soarer has far more mod potential with the 1JZ, but the 1UZ you can slap a supercharger on and do a tranny swap for $5k and have a japanese muscle car that does 400hp and weighs two tons, but you can do burnouts at least.
>>
>>16158850
1UZ if its a post 97 model otherwise 1JZ
>>
>>16158838

>>16159407
>>16159405
This dude, VVTi 1UZ makes more horsepower than 1JZ stock and it's cooler tbqh. If you do exhaust mods the 1UZ sounds like a fucking ferrari engine because its so small.
>>
>>16158781
What did you do to fix it? One of mine is warped like a soggy piece of cardboard, and the other has the outside face of the piece gone. Like a very shallow hole.
>>
>>16159126
I thought putting a manual on the 400 was way harder than the 300. Also, finding an LSD from a supra is pretty hard where I live if you want a burnout boat.

The hole that I just got patched, it was pretty bad, but that's the only rust on the car, frame's solid, subframe is immaculate.
>>
>>16158850
Get the 1UZ, you have more power out of the box and a manual swap is cheap. The sound of the 1UZ is truly amazing. The JZ has more aftermarket but these days I've been seeing so many F.I 1UZs it feels like a common thing. Aftermarket is increasing as well since you have the benefit of a V8 with the same weight as a 2JZ so it's easier to get more power out of it.
>>
>>16160897
It's absolutely not cheaper than getting power out of a 2j unless you mean the ge and not the gte. Even then, the initial investment of going na-t is high, but you'll make way more power, and kits actually exist in higher quantities then anything for the 1uz. The 1uz does sound really good though.

I haven't had much time to interact with the scene per se, but driving on Hakone turnpike is a ton of fun. Because it's owned by Mazda there's no speed limit to speak of, though people tend to stay in their lane out of courtesy. Almost nobody is ever on it, either.

I have gone to a few meets at parking complexes though and it's always a good time.

>>16170715
Koni yellow coilovers with Swift springs and Cusco pillowball mounts. I would have gone with the Ohlins coilovers if they weren't ridiculously expensive, though I like the modularity of the setup I have now, too. I can always get them revalved to be more aggressive if I feel it necessary.

Also running Cusco unibody braces all around, Carbing strut tower braces, and Cusco pillowball bushings.

>>16170761
Thanks, I've had a few embarrassing mishaps with the car to date but nothing that has ruined it in any way. I'm looking at the SARD body kit for improving the look but also for raising the front a bit so I'm not scraping all the time.

>>16171676
I've always liked the car, and in the end it was its practicality that edged it out over my other choices (S15 or FC).

The roads here are small. Really small. There's times I don't even feel like negotiating neighborhood roads in this car.

I dropped off a friend at someone's house once, only to find that the last turn to his place was from a blind, 90 degree left turn from a stop at a nearly 70℅ incline. The entire street was only one lane wide (which out here is nearly half the size of a typical US lane), and there was a jagged rock wall to ensure that I'd never forget if I screwed this up. Normally at blind corners out here they'll have mirrors to help you determine if there's oncoming traffic, but this one didn't have one. I backed up and made him walk the rest of the way.

Obviously not grip, weight, and downforce-wise, but the power output is similar to the GT version at ~560 stock. I would also end up stripping it as well since it would be a personal car, not a family car, so I'd make up a few hundred pounds weight-wise.

Mine started smoking and a few hundred kilos later I started getting valve tick.

My advice if you want to keep driving it: put the thickest oil you can find in there. Use stabilizer if you have to. My car was going through an entire pan of 10W-30 in about a day. If you keep the engine oiled, it should run for awhile in that condition. I was unfortunate enough to go through a whole pan of oil once (15W-40 with stabilizer, at that) and that did it in.

If/when you decide to get another engine, I recommend either the later 1ZZ which wasn't nearly as bad as the first batch or a different engine entirely (2ZZ, K20, etc). Be sure to get the Moroso oil pan if you go with either a 1ZZ or 2ZZ, since the G's an MR-S pulls can cause oil starvation.

Alight They are 3400-3700 lbs.

I have one its on bc coils with nice wheels and tires. It doesn't handle bad but needs a lot more work to handle good. And with just coils and camber wear is bad.

But because its an auto it wont be to much fun in the back roads (imo) I have done a lot of auto cross with the sc400 and the auto sucks leaving corners. unless you find a sc300 manual or swap an sc300/400 but that is around 3k.

weight reduction on the SC cars are pretty hard to do. And they are pretty under powered. 1uz lighter then the 2j also. if you did want to to do weight reduction start with the seats then cf hood/truck then doors next. striping the interior does not save much weight at all. The spare in the back is a given.

let me know if you want to know anything else. If you wanted to daily drive the car and have it for back roads maybe it wont be that bad but I think there is better options out there for that.

from the guy that said lighter less hp car. ( trying to give good feed back this time. )
