OP has a katydid. I used to play with those big green grasshoppers. For their final molt, they'd turn into those extra large dark colored grasshoppers. It must have been a perfect storm of rare genes, but there was one single green grasshopper out of all of them that was tame. If i tapped the table it would walk over and climb up on my finger. All the others liked to jump away. Had an argument with my brother and then it became mysteriously dead. Thus ended the one good grasshopper. They all liked to eat hibiscus or chrysanthumum leaves. But no problem as those plants grow fast.

For some reason, both katydids and grasshoppers are nearly "extinct" in my area. Maybe is because all the neighbors apply pesticides and herbicides to everything and its in the water table as well. I don't apply much of anything other than fertilizers to the vegetable garden since I don't want to be eating 'cides.

I wouldn't mind them on my new car although there aren't any in the summer. In past winters, the cats getting onto the warm hood are the problem. They have claws and scratched their way over to their favorite warm spots on my prior car. This is the first winter for my new car and the feral cats.
