Who on fucking EARTH thought it was a good idea to have that goblin creature named Chris Evans present the show? How much coke are they doing?

That's the point, though. They knew whoever replaced the trio would be viewed unfavorably, so they picked the worst man for the job then gave him the axe. So now, most people will say "oh, it's better than the Chris Evans season" versus "oh, it's shit compared to the Clarkson era".

We'll be seeing the lads again on 18 Nov, only on Amazon video.

Pretty much this. As much as I'd like to think that it's a matter of camaraderie between the three, it's also simply the wisest solution for the problem the Hamster and the Captain were presented with. Dissociating with the show on it's future seasons means they steer clear from the flak of a derelict show. As for killing of the show, the execs were to oblivious to what made the show to let their cash cow die after they shot it.
I'm not entirely sure about this, but I've read somewhere, maybe even here, that a fair amount of the crew stayed with the trio.
