Get an MGB brah.

>>16117941
no
>>16117948
I do like mopar, but im worried about finding parts. I figure anything with a 318 or a 360 should be easy enough with all the old dodge trucks around, but still not as easy as a 350.

so an even less reliable yet slightly more straight miata?
>>

If you're THAT worried you shouldn't be looking as a classic.
>>
>>16118001
>MGB
>unreliable
Not really any moreso than other carb'd cars from that era. The engine and electrical system are both incredibly simple. There's very little on the car that can actually go wrong.
>>
>>16117958
Plus fucking 1

Somewhere on my list of wants is a 73ish MGB with something like a 3.4 DOHC Chevy, and a bit of lightening and electrical rework.
Tune the exhaust note to sound like pure sex.
>>
>>16117965
>Worried about finding parts

That's another point for the MGB, anon. There's literally zero parts problems for it.

get a ford with an inline 6 250ci. parts are dirt cheap and everywhere, they run forever, and get the mpg you're looking for.
>>
>>16118234
but are I6's ok for highway driving for extended periods of time?
>>
>>16118255
I've gone on some pretty long road trips and over passes, never struggled at all. the c4 is a little lacking over 70 mph, but you can always mate it with an aod or t5. I have a 68 falcon and 77 maverick. I got both for less than 2k, but you should expect 3-8k for one in DD condition
>>
>>16118319
what were your mpgs and rpms at 70mph with the I6/C4 combo?
>>
>>16118325
highway I get around 18mpg. 3k in 3rd gear puts you at 70 mph. 2.79 rear end in the mav, 3.0 in the falcon, but its hard to compare.
>>
>>16117930
A non lifted Square Body Chevy years 72 to 75 is the answer to your question, they are amazing cruisers.

Parts availability is infinite and cheap, complexity is low. These trucks were made from 1973 all the way to 1987.

Right gears and well tuned carb can easily get you that mileage on the freeway.

If you want more MPG's, bolt on EFI is now cheapish, or rip a TBI system out of a newer one.

I daily drive one with a 350 small block, backed by a Muncie SM465 4-speed, 3.42 differential. I have large diameter rims and tires on it so the RPM's are tame, but you could easily swap in a lower ratio diff gearset (ie highway gears) and get even lower.

maybe unrelated, but im seeing people getting mid 20s with for Inline 6s, but a mopr slant 6 will only get you 15. Yet a ford 289 will get shit compared to the I6, Vs the mopar 318 getting 20mpg vs the slant 6.

Explain?

I honesty haven't calculated my exact fuel economy, but AK miller, the then performance advisor for Ford claims he got 35 mpg using some hypermilling techniques, so those numbers aren't impossible. the smaller displacement, inline configuration, and conservative 1bbl carb greatly help with fuel economy. Here's an article AK Miller wrote on it. https://fordsix.com/archive/www.classicinlines.com/HA1.html

It's hard enough to get a loan for a 10 year old car.
Are you even sure yet that you can get someone to finance you for this?
>>

>Capable of dding on the highway, so no I4's
I DD a i4 vehicle that weights 3000kg, do like 2-3000km a week, 90% highways.
Why shouldn't an i4 do the job?
>>
>>16118426
Yes, gotta love Credit Unions, USAA, or buying from a classic car dealer.

>>16118459
Im assuming its a modern I4?

Porsche 912.

Anything with a straight six. My 65 mustang has a 170 in it, it gets 23-26 mpg and it will do 80mph easy with a 3 speed manual in it. Also they're super simple to work on, you can removes the oil filter and started from under the hood
>>
Post your craigslist
Or basically get on there and search for the terms "restomod" and "pro touring" your requirements are extremely broad so just contact all of them and feel out who got in too deep or just is bored of it and wants to cash out for some other project. Some will probably be even listed in your price range to start with.

What OP wants is an 86-87 Regal Limited Turbo. Bench, pillow top seat, column shift, overdrive for highway cruising, and the famed LC2 turbo 3.8 for power. What's not to love?

You going for emissions exemption? Is that why? Just curious.
>>
>>16120922
He also said he wanted 17+ mpg on the highway out of what amounts to at least an Intermediate. Something's gonna have to give.

Besides, G-bodies are nothing more than metric A-bodies from 1968 so they fit the criteria. From a certain point of view.
>>
>>16117930
those are my exact requirements when i buy a car, anyway

4 door Ford Torino
Chevrolet Impala with a thrift 6
plymouth valiant
dodge dart
6 cylinder mustang
late 60's falcon
plymouth fury
4 door nova

and theres more cheap(er) older cars to choose from too, but that will get you started
>>
>>16120922
Nah, just like the style. Anything older than 1991 is exempt for me. Really want to get away from almost any electronic (barring power brakes, radios, and lights)
>>
>>16121731
have fun fixing things every other weekend because the parts are old and worn
>>
>>16121608
17mpg highway isnt difficult. Plenty claim to get it with a 350/th350 and 2.73 gears all the time.

I would love a 70 monte carlo, but all the ones i can find have big blocks.

A dart with a slant 6 or a 318? Because i hear the slant 6 just guzzles gas while giving no power.
>>
>>16121740
I have an 04 that is constantly breaking down, and its all electronics and vital parts made out of plastic. I want something i can actually fix. Im also spending the extra cash for something thats already been refreshed so i dont have to worry about it.
