If you're swapping speakers and you have 5x7 or 6x9 installed, you can normally replace them with 5 1/4 2way or 6 1/2 3way rounds. Mounting patterns usually line up.
Oval speakers distort sound. They were intended to produce a "fuller" spectrum for cheap but they fail miserably when compared to another speaker thats not 28¢ a piece.
