Civic vs Corolla

Which is better?

Yeah but if you HAD to choose one, which is better?

This.
But honestly the corolla has been better historically.
More configurations including rwd
Most sold car in the world
Higher quality parts. (Fuck honda distributors)
Always go corolla unless its 1998 to 2002
>>
>>16108655
Brand new 2017 models?
I'd take the civic, the base model has almost 20 more hp than the top end corolla. Other than being slightly faster their probably not that much different desu. both good cars. Civic also has the Si and type R(soon) models while toyota doesn't offer a sporty model of the corolla in america. Corollas are generally a little cheaper used, especially when its comes to 90s models
>>
>>16108667
Corolla
>>
>>16108694
Why did they make the type R (and recent Civics) look so fucking ricey and edgy? That park bench on the back of the new Type R hatch is a joke.
>>
>>16108667
neither. civic for 3k.
>>

They know their market well.
>>

>doesn't offer a sporty model of the corolla in america
But why?

Also, checking toyota's website the other day
>manual corolla is more expensive than an automatic corolla
but why
>>
>>16108713
Because the Automatic is a CVT isn't it? Many Jap companies are incentivising it with lower prices.
>>
>>16108656
Not sure what the point of this image is but the corolla has a way better interior, the Civic is just cheap and tacky.

Wow, someone actually knows the years to avoid. I hate it when people say go get a cheap corolla or civic.

I'd pick the corolla especially if it's keyless entry and start. The civic posted was apparently not liked or bad for some reason

I have driven a 2013 Civic EX and a 2014 corolla S for at least 6 months each. The corolla felt more premium and sportier, but ultimately still cheap. The civic looks and feels pretty plain but I found it more comfortable to drive long distances, and it also got better mpgs. The backseat in the Corolla is impressive as well and the paddle shifters were neat.

Mechanically the Civic is a much newer car. Hell, the '15 Corolla still uses the same 1.8L and drums in the rear.
>>
>>16110533
Thats why its so good.
Its been perfected over 18 years on the same engine
>>
>>16110533

>>
>>16110637
>outclassed
In what way?
There's a simple rule in engineering, and most other trades, and that is
>if it aint broke dont fix it
Its an economy car. It doesnt need anything more than drum brakes. They're low maintenance, last forever, and do the job.
>>
>>16110637
gets 36 mpg highway with the 4 speed auto. who gives a shit about having more tech just for the sake of shitty car mag articles?
>>
>>16110637
Most sold car in the world.
Why mess with success?
>>
>>16110647
This

The reason why other manufacturers like Ford fail is because they constantly try pushing new tech into their vehicles and it backfires or has problems

Toyota uses tried and true parts that last forever, despite not being cutting edge.
>>
>>16110637
>outclassed

Not in reliability/simplicity, which are literally the only things that matter in an economy car

The fact that Toyota has been putting that same damn 7 bar digital clock in the same place for over 40 years along with the 4 speed, manual lift air vents, and drums

is just more proof that strong simplistic reliability goes a long, long way

2000 Toyota Corolla MSRP: $12,418.00 (base model)

2016 Toyota Corolla MSRP: $17,300 (base model)
2016 Honda Civic MSRP: $18,640 (base model)

For reference, $12,500 in 2000 is roughly equal to $17,500 in 2016. Pretty cool how these cars have barely changed price in 16 years.

I own a 2017 Limited, no buyers remorse other than not realizing a sport model was coming out. For its price point doesn't feel cheap in any way except for some hard plastic here and there, driving experience is a bit dull, but I expected to trade performance for luxury features and tech. Would have probably got a mazda 3 if the infotainment system wasn't a joke (no carplay or android auto), but the value proposition and warranty of the Hyundai sold me. I had 02 Acura TL and an 05 Civic Ex special edition as prior cars.
>>
>>16110816
wow I didn't think any modern sedans had drum brakes still..
>>
>>16109616
Depends on what your looking for in a car, at this price point nothing is fast or inspiring except maybe the mazda 3. I got a 2017 Elantra limited due to the warranty, all the tech features, and price point. The 3, everything was a package in order to get and the infotainment system sucked, (no android auto/apple car play) and had a cheesy interface.

>>
>>16110647
>In what way?
It doesn't lead the segment in any way. Whether it be power, fuel economy, interior space, cargo space, standard trim, available features. Not to mention the most powerful one you can get is the ECO model with only 140hp which pales in comparison to others like the Focus and 3 which btfo out of the Corolla dynamically as well.

>>16110648
Because other compacts are getting 40+mpg highway now. Again, complacency kills in the car market.

>>16110650
>>16110713
>new corolla ranked 14/23 compact cars
>hurr it's still the golden standard

Toyotafags are this delusional, there are better cars for the money. But people will happily buy them because it has a T in the grille. Just look at the sales charts.

The reason the Civic and Corolla stole away sales from the big three in NA back in the day was because of the quality as well as the reliability. The Corolla uses more hard plastic than any other compact(even kia) in the interior, has an outdated chassis and powertrain. It's doing what's known as resting on its laurels.

Why would you want to spend that much on an appliance? A 3k civic can do everything a shitty new corolla can. Get an aux adapter that plugs into the back of the radio and then plug your phone into that or plug in a Bluetooth adapter if you care about that sort of thing. It's got cruise control and keyless entry. No you won't have heated seats but who really cares? Driving an older car doesn't make you a Mexican or poorfag. Just frugal. Save the money for fun shit. A trip, a project car, some other hobby. If you buy one for 2500-3k you might be in it for 6k after 6-8 years.

I prefer it being big and it's not even mid sized. Have you seen how big the accord is now? When I test drove it I was getting passed by giant suvs and oceanliner sized full sized cars. Hell look how big the Ford Taurus is.

Riced? It's 4 doors and a trunk with a black interior. Most colours i've seen are grey and a couple in the dark purple. Mine is blue.

The volume knob is on the steering wheel or on the touch screen. You need knobs in 2016?

It's still light and simple. If you want small get a fiat.

Well not having a car at all is my main reason. It's not that expensive either.

Cheaper to make now, and it's safer. But then again in the 80s cars got really small so they're getting bigger again. Maybe not 50s american big.

>It's still light and simple.

No it's not, it's bigger than an older Accord and it has shirt CVT and electronic steering and alot of technology like a bloated infotainment screen.

You ask if you need knobs in 2016? How bout you need a new econobox with all that worthless shit in 2016? Buy and 3k Civic, get an aux cord adapter for your phone, get a 5 dollar phone mount for your air vent, and you have a cleaner and less buggy setup than Hondas own infotainment system.

It's chrome on the last 2 years models too. Chrome bits are very common on any decent car now and there's always more of it on the higher trim levels. And every single new car in the same range uses LEDs now.

>Buy and 3k Civic, get an aux cord adapter for your phone, get a 5 dollar phone mount for your air vent, and you have a cleaner and less buggy setup than Hondas own infotainment system.

Do you like pretending you're poor and not linking nice things? I'm serious. You're settling for as little as possible. It's not always a good thing to go full poor hipster.

Because everything you dislike about it is the exact reason I bought it. It even has better fuel economy than any model before it. I'll need to gas up once a month with my drives to work.

The trunk might be big enough but the opening is tiny. It has a fastback shape so they should all be hatches. You're not fitting 4 tires in there unless it's go kart tires.

This is an automotive enthusiast board and you buy some fucking shitty neutered numb econobox? That's something a college girl would finance. You two are probably shut in balding numales.

I hate poorfags on here but at least the Miata fags buy something that's fun to drive with the proper drivetrain.

You might enjoy it now but you're gonna hate payment 50.

Hahaha and /ck/ Is all about fine dining. I gotta admit that one made me laugh.

Drivetrain is irrelevant if you're talking about a car you use to get to work. Have you seen the majority of miata drivers? And shut-in balding numales drive cars like >>16111493 here.

Enjoy this meme gif.

They had a poor design for oil drainback in the piston.
It was remedied by running thinner oil and doing changes every 3k miles. But 99.9% of people didnt do it. So they burn oil.

Corolla for DD
Civic for poorfag tuner car, since you can't afford a corolla and a miata
>>
> >16112655
Because its true and you ford fags cant prove otherwise.
Its ford ENTIRE business model. Make someone else so the hard work and we put a badge on it after building it cheaper.
It has been that way since they started as a company. Its documented that henry ford took ideas and produced his own cars from them.
How can you be this dense?!?!?!
>>
>>16112651
The first car in Europe to use the C1 platform was the Ford Cmax, and go to the Volvo P1 platform and it redirects you to what I linked. Also the 3 and S40 both use the Ford designed control blade rear suspension.

Also the original Zetec was all Ford loosely based on the CVH, the second gen Zetec(eventually called Duratec) was Mazda based.

You've struck out, any more straws to grasp at?

Funny how that was after their partnership with volvo... go to a volvo forum. They discuss the chassis in great detail

The valve cover literally bolts to a B6 or B8

Civic doesnt sell to rental car companies, Corollas numbers are inflated by that

This. Get a 16 it will blow the last gen civic and the corolla out of the water. its faster and gets way better gas mileage.
