The problem with the 4AFE is despite being one of the most reliable engines ever made, it's tuning capabilities are very very limited.

I had that engine in my 1992 Celica STX.

Would choose the 4AGE any day. I respect the 4AFE, the engineering skills needed to make an engine that reliable are just amazing.

My brother bought the slightly more powerful 5sfe Widebody Celica GTS. That's a great 4 cyl engine too.

With enough changes it could. Sure it'd have to be larger, but throw in a worm gear and you've got the 90 degree turn required to make the blade spin. Sure it'd be inefficient, but it would work.

Because I recognize that they are shit, just because I own them doesn't mean I prefer them, they are just very practical and economical, that's all they have going fur them.
I'm not one to fall fur cognitive dissonance and think that just because I own something it's better than another thing.

I buy a vehicle for a purpose, my toyota pickup is a 22r and a great truck, my friend gave it to me, it's extremely reliable and durable, gets decent enough fuel milage, like I said, 4 cylinders are extremely practical engines.

My volvo is a 4 cyl which I'm tossing in the trash soon, that car has no business with an 80hp 4cyl being 3000lbs, it's silly slow.

The festiva is also getting the engine removed once the volvo is done, I'm thinking VR6 or K20/24 to replace the mazda B3

I originally bought the 5.3 fur my toyota truck but it would have cost me too much to get new axles and wheels fur the truck so I just said fuck it and bought this car to put it in instead.
2wd swaps are much easier and cheaper than 4wd swaps, the whole thing was only supposed to cost 2-3k, which will still be within budget even after buying an entire new car to put it in.

>>
>>16102606
While I love the H22A (I've had two 5th gen preludes) I think the K20A is objectively a better motor because it doesn't use those fucking god awful FRM cylinder sleeves that result in you blowing a quart of oil out your tail pipe for every tank of fuel you use. Plus higher power output and better fuel economy.
>>
>>16105916
Only if you resleeve the cylinders

the stock block can hold up 500hp as a daily, and some dyno queens have gone past 700hp on a stock block. wtf are you talking about? the frm liners are perfectly fine.
>>
>>16105976
Yeah they're great, until they've chewed the rings to shit after 50k miles. I've had 4 Hondas that they used the FRM liners in (one 3rd gen prelude, two 5th gen preludes, and one S2000), all four of them blew massive amounts of oil out the tail pipe after 50k - 80k miles. And these are not flukes, this is a commonly known issue with these motors.
>>
>>16106008
maybe it's because you fucking suck at life? my s2000 burns about a quart every oil change which is like 5000miles

They sounds like satan with an open pipe, but they just have no power under 10k. At all. You have to chop down to put on the beans.
Great for around town though, but open road never.
>Sitting at 11krpm for most of a 600km trip
>>
>>16106429
You don't need power to sustain speed, you only need it to accelerate. If you're taking a 600km trip you're going to spend the majority of it in top gear at cruising speed with no need for peak power.
>>
>>16106442
To clarify, I own one of these and I did such a trip several times. I did not enjoy all of it. Being a naked bike it's worse than a CBRRR, but my point still stands.
>>
>>16106442
>You don't need power to sustain speed
That's wrong, though. You wouldn't need power to maintain speed in a frictionless universe, but in the real world you need to overcome air resistance, bearing friction, rolling resistance, etc.
>>
>>16103188
M42 did none of these things. The m40/m43 are of one family and the m42/m44 are of a different one. They share a similar block design but that is it

I was referring to max power. You need far less power to maintain a speed you're already going than you do to get to that speed. That is why max gear in most vehicles will have you running at relatively low RPM at highway speeds.

>>
>>16108890
Furthermore my other issue with a 7A 20V is that turboing gets more costly with one of these because of the ITBs, you have to have a custom plenum made because the stock ones can only handle up 200hp before they blow apart, and boosting is the only way to get good power out of these

Basically what I'm saying is for all the money you would be putting into a 7A, you'd be better off putting it into a 3S or a K series

Kinda tossed between the F20B and the K24A2
The F20 revs to 8k and puts out 200/151
The K24 revs to 7.5k and puts out about the same
The F20 is basically a destroked H22 with ton sleeves instead of FRM and it makes great power with boost, but so does the K24A2

Dunno lads, I like em both

This is objectively the correct answer. Dat HP/L, correct engine orientation, reliable as fuck, forged internals.

Honda is still for faggots though (S2000 is a possible exception, but the engine would serve better in some retro Jap shitbox like a 1st gen Celica).
>>
>Performancefags arguing with reliabilityfags and vice versa

Just pick 2 engines or split them into 2 categories, you double niggers

2. K20A
3. 3S-GE BEAMS blacktop

1. Based 22R-E
2. 4A-FE
3. Iron Duke
