i want to buy a buffer for my car. some anon on /diy/ told me to get a random orbital. i wanted to get "DEWALT DWP849X" but he told me not to. i saw chemical guys has a cool 13 piece set for 200$ about the same price for the first buffer i wanted but CG gives me more bang for the buck.
what does /o/ recommend? /diy/ anon never answered me back. looking to buy it once black friday/cyber monday hits

First off....
Do you know ANYTHING about detailing cars with buffers and whatnot?
Not even trying to be a typical demeaning assh/o/le but if have no experience/training in detailing your best to not do it. You can seriously fuck up a cars paint if you don't know what you're doing.
People who do that professionally usually have to spend months if not longer training to get certified to do paint detailing.
Just saying.
Read up on it first.

You'll fuck your paint.
Get a pro to do it once a year for 100$ or less.

>months of training to use a buffer
Fuck off, seriously.
Definitely get a variable speed buffer, keep it medium-low. I haven't had any problem with Dewalt power tools for personal use. Craftsman orbitals are nice.
Use plenty of wax, don't push too hard

>waxing with a buffer
???
I've never heard of this being done, wax has no abrasive in it, wax is simply fur protection.
I use a rotary buffer with meguiars 105/205 and follow it up with carnuba wax.
Rotary buffers are dangerous if you're not careful tho.

Cleaning and waxing by hand is more beneficial

Tried it in high school, real good wash, claybar, low speed + turtlewax, hood was like a fucking mirror for a month

Just buy a microfiber buffing towel.. More work but satisfying results.

Random orbital polisher such as the ones at WalMart for 19.88 (6 inch) or 23.98 (10 inch) work great.
Use Meguair's Ultimate Compound, optionally use Meguair's Ultimate Polish after that, and then finish off with some wax/sealant like Meguair's Tech Wax 2.0 or NuFinish.
It's the TLDR discount way to get 95% of the effect of a pro job at a much lower price, and the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

noted. is there any difference between the one they sell at walmart and the one they sell at vatozone or advance auto parts?

>certified
What the fucking hell man?
Let him fuck up his car. Hell learn from that
>>16095605
I can guarantee that this will absolutely not produce results anywhere near what a dedicated compound(not an all in one for a lazy consumer) and a DA polisher will get you. The cheap polisher will be better than using your hand for compounding and waxing, but it just isn't powerful enough for paint correction.

>certified to do paint detailing
you sound like a pussy
>>16095605
Meguirs tech wax is boss. Made my silver Mazda look like a mirror all summer with touches from quick detailer and quick wax.
>>16095146
i had the buffer head from meguiars which you attach to a drill but looking to upgrade. i'm just a amateur
>>16095311
my car has scratches which i want to remove. he doesnt explain that there
>>16094002
a grinder with a buffing wheel should work wonders.
>tfw too scared to buy one in the event I slip and sand my face away
>I'm a big enough retard to actually do this

Not fit for OP's (and most of ours's) situation. A pro tool like the DA makes it easier to cut more, but you can do paint correction with a random orbital from WalMart. The difference is, for laypeople newbies who aren't pro detailers and without prior experience, a DA has a much higher risk of actually permanently stripping the paint, whereas it's much lower with a random orbital. Plus, it costs 10 times as much... so for an average Schmoe looking to upkeep an old cheap car, no point in going all out for the pro level stuff which requires more experience, skill, money, etc.
