That was a different lincoln. The blue one was a 79 I sold a couple years ago. This tan brown one is a 76 I picked up to pull the 460 and 9" for my maverick.

My old niggest of nig lincoln was comfy as fuck. Before you buy make sure you take it on an extended test drive. 351m/400s love to vapor lock, especially if you fuck with any of the emissions stuff.

the guy I bought my suspension from had a donor 76 f250 dent side that was super clean, and had the 351/400m motor stands that I need but the truck was so clean I would feel bad about robbing the engine stands.

Yeah; it looks TERRIBLE, but it could be a fun rat rod, especially since the guy only wants a couple hundred dollars.

If it still had the original wheels, I'd buy it for parts alone, but I don't know.

I'm also looking at building a Mad Max Corvair from a junker that my boss is trying to get rid of.

Asked you guys in the last thread about a 1971 GMC k2500 with a built 350 and a rebuilt t350. Shit gets lost I guess.

Redlines low 5000 rpm, but it's a 3/4 ton truck, I never touch that peak with anything, kepp in mind I have summit racing less than 30 miles from me.
>>
>>16095392
Do Edelbrock 650s run fat as fuck out the box do you know?

On launch I bog down uber hard, then after 30 feet it hits and flies. It could be tuning, but if its actually fat out of the box I'll look into getting jets to lean it out. I'm gonna get a rebuild kit also
>>
>>16095397
honestly on a truck motor you do not need that much carb. if it revved to 6k and had a high lift cam and decent compression maybe, but not on a stock low hp work truck.

>>16095418
I am not sure, but it is probably set up initially to be on the rich side just so that ye old boomer can slap it on his bone stock 307/powerglide combo and it will run off the bat.

71 Cadillac Coupe Deville (driving, but needs suspension and interior)
71 Torino (up for full restoration)
85 Cadillac Eldorado (current daily, could use some work but nothing a priority)
89 Mustang GT (63k mi original, the baby/Sunday car)
90 S10 ($900 beater, rusting away, needs full suspension that I'm not gonna bother with)

The 1500 should go into the Torino, but when am I gonna see another 63 in such good shape for the price?

>>16097393
I have the exact same problem. Not as many, but I have

2010 Mustang GT. My DD so I'm modest with relatively modifications until I get something else. Not that that's a problem.
1988 Mustang LX. This is what I actively put funds toward when I can. I didn't pay anything for it. Was a hand me down from my mom.
1989 F150. I got this for $700 years ago and I keep swearing to myself that I'll get to working on it, but that time hasn't come yet.

Very strange all around. It's probably for the best, but man it would've been sweet.

Also went to check out this heap today. Guy has it up for $1250, been sitting 2 years, and probably longer. I went basically just to see how fucked it was, and was kinda surprised. Was sitting outside, but on gravel, so the underbody is nowhere what you'd expect (east coast). She actually fired right up! Coupla pics inbound.

The guy had no idea what he was talking about. Tried to tell me it was a Vette motor. I coulda told him the Flux capacitor was going bad and he probably would have agreed.

Anyway, the real issue is that all the fluids are god knows how old (or what's left of the fluids more like). Smoke out the upper rad house, and whiter smoke out of the back than I would like. I'm sure some of it is all the shit burning off, but white smoke~head gasket in my experience. Everything would need to be gone thru, engine only had 65k "original" miles, and supposedly belonged to an old man who garaged it, which I'm kind of inclined to believe considering the overall condition, fucked engine or not. Also, the real kicker is that he's moving this month, and has a ton of shit to get rid of. Told him I'd give him 500 bucks, so we'll see.

okay /ccg/ guy texted me, my duster might be here at 3 am.

So it's got a 225 with a 4 barrel holley something.

I have no doubts, it's probably a couple weeks away from being frozen with varnish.

Unfortunately i just lost my job so fuck me.
Can i submerge the thing in Hoppe's no.9 solvent and let it sit for a while? will that dissolve some varnish without ruining anything?

I want it to be driveable now so i can take it to get titled.
>>

The duster is paid for and already shipped.
I wanted to put a 4 speed in it but i guess the autotragic will have to do for now.

Supposedly it runs but it doesn't have an air cleaner/filter on it so the gas would have no trouble evaporating.
Not sure how long it sat but no way to know if it runs until it gets here.

Got my duster, i have many questions.

first of all it has no lights or power, so the battery is toast.
I plugged it into a charger and it said 100% charge. So basically it's a brick now?

I don't know shit about holleys but you can see the secondaries are stuck open.

what is it missing?
Finally, the air cleaner support rod is stuck in the secondaries. Any tips to get it out without ruining gaskets?

pic related, the damn rod.
I have a pokey magnet but it's too wide.

Are your secondaries vacuum operated or does it look like mechanical linkage?

Also those butterfly's are dirtier than prison anal, I don't even want to know what the bowl looks like.

Cool car though. Put a 340 innit
>>
>>16101966
My bad, it was the air cleaner support rod holding them open, i got the rod out and they're fine. There actually isn't choke on the carburetor atm. The gas tank was patched and apparently leaks but the battery is done for so i don't know if it's true.
I'm just trying to get it running right now so it can be moved around.

This carb is dirty as sin tbqh.
Also 340s are rare af and expensive when you can find them. I want to dump a first gen hemi in there but i dunno if it'll physically fit.

I'll take a closer look. I really want to know too.

The carb is actually not 100% assembled. It doesn't have a choke, the throttle cable will not return to position after pressing the gas pedal.
I think this carb has an idle return spring, not sure.

hey guy you asked me what holley was on my heap of a duster.
These are the only numbers i can find on the whole thing.
>>
>>16114337
And this is on a /6? That's wayyyyy too much carb for the car. That's a 600cfm carb when you should probably be running about 300-400cfm carb. Where are you located? I might have a 2barrel Holley I could sell you that would be a bit more fitting for that size.

Either that, or find a smaller carb but that one is more suited to a mildly built 350 chevy
>>
>>16114382
Yes, someone definitely worked on this thing because ita straight piped.
Vin says its economy class at 105 gross horsepower.

Wonder what the 4 barrel is doing for it.

I'm in pa though so don't worry. I'll just let this run like shit when I get it running because eventually it's going to be a V8

Alright i figured out the real problem with this duster.

Pic related is the accelerator cable with the throttle cable.

If the picture didn't rotate you will see that the throttle cable is in wide open position despite having a return spring on the butterfly.
The throttle cable itself should act as a spring for the accelerator pedal BUT, why isn't it secured to the pedal.
Rather, what is the right method to secure it to the pedal?
does anyone have any ideas?
I tried removing the pedal but a washer has been secured to both sides well enough that it won't come out.

Can i just shorten the throttle cable?
>>
>>16117032
>accelerator cable
accelerator pedal* my bad.
>>
>>16117032
Yeah; you should be able to fix that with a basic cable stop. Pull the cable as tight as you can at the carb and secure it there; I can snap a picture of my setup, if need be.
>>
>>16117337
please do for some reason this is baffling me.

the cable is actually taught but it's not secured to the pedal. i've confirmed that it will move the way i need it to with it secured.

Coil is an easy replacement, and usually fairly inexpensive. Points are a bit more involved.

If you still think you have a vacuum leak, check with a vacuum gauge, you should be reading low vac at the carb even at idle. But I would guess that if it hasn't been done in a while, both the coil and points should be replaced. Maybe rotor and cap too, but you can tell this by inspection.

Also, if you are doing it anyway, and have the cash, moving to a Pertronix system can make a big difference to an old distributor set up.

I put one on a 60's ford MEL 430 recently, cleared up a tonne of issues.

I finally put a choke on my 79 trans am so on those cold mornings she starts right up. I'm still dealing with some random electrical issues. Since I got the car the Dash lights didn't work but the brake warning light was enough to see the speedometer. Finally the proportioning valve is reading right so the light went off. Has anyone ever had an issue like this? the turn signal lights, Hi beam indicator, and brake warning light works but not the lights to illuminate the gauges.

I had that exact same thing in my 68 Lincoln Continental. None of the lights worked for my Speedo, aka basically the only gauge on the dash, I pulled my headlight switch out, took it apart and cleaned it, found that the little arm that touches the rheostat for dimming the lights was all buggered, so I put a fresh drop of solder on it, filed it smooth and bent it into place.

Then after that, I had to clean a minutely dirty ground wire for the dash lights, which was in the engine bay for whatever reason. Now they work
>>
>>16126532
Thanks for the advice! I'll take the switch apart and see if I can clean it up. If that doesn't do it I might see if replacing the circuit board will also help.

>the turn signal lights, Hi beam indicator, and brake warning light works but not the lights to illuminate the gauges.
Those are separate circuits so that's not surprising.

Gauge illumination is it's own circuit from the headlight switch and run in parallel so that one bulb doesn't take out the whole cluster illumination. The headlight switch in a car of that vintage has a rheostat included which is a round porcelain item with wire in it just behind where the switch mounts. See pic related. You rotate the headlight switch knob to increase or decrease illumination. It's pretty common for a failure to occur in the dimmer rheostat. Most of the time you can fuck around and figure out what's wrong with them but it's usually easier to just replace the cheap-ass pile of junk. Especially since headlight switches are frequently heat damaged from poor connections anyway.
>>
>>16126624
Thanks for the help! tomorrow I'll rip the switch out of there and see whats wrong with it.
>>
>>16126631
