That's cool. Here's a picture I haven't posted yet.

If the weather is decent, I'll get temporary license plates and go for a test drive (in legal terms). I'll hit a couple mountain passes and empty a couple gas tanks then.

Met a guy from aeu86 yesterday and he checked the car out in detail, it's in mechanically perfect condition, will only need protective measures (undercarriage sealing, fresh fluids and similar stuff). End of next week I'll have an upholsterer come by and have a look at the car and discuss about how I'd want to replace the rather worn interior upholstery.

Oh, and turns out my exhaust is custom made, doesn't correspond to any brand kit and doesn't have any markings apart from the "JASMA" plaquette. Now that I don't feel the sore ears from driving 8h straight on German Autobahn to get it home, the exhaust sounds pretty good as is and I don't feel like changing it for something less loud anymore.

Well, yes and no: It is an 80s econobox RWD Corolla. It can't beat half the cars it beat in the anime unless you build yourself a formula atlantic replica for more money than you'd spend on a decently modern actual sports car.
But: It's lightweight and can get around corners really damn quick and even with less than 100whp (134hp at the crank in stock form, mine's at about 140-145, I'd guess) it's a real blast to drive. With the proper mods (suspension, stabilizers and tower braces), it's a driving experience similar to the raw experience of driving an early gen Lotus Elise.

For me it's the car I've always wanted. Simple technology, very basic amenities, no computers (well, there's an ECU), nothing unnecessary. I have probably spent way too much to get it here, but I have no buyer's remorse at all.

What's also interesting to see is the kind of response from others I get. Most people either think "hey, no idea what it is, but it looks pretty cool" or "what's that old shitbox doing here?", but I've found a couple new friends who know the car from way-back-when. Two colleagues at work actually knew the car. Only one person outside /o/ has mentioned Initial D so far, which is good.
>>

>raw experience

>>
>>16088374

I've had 3 people confuse my hatch for a Sirocco, and a ticketing officer confuse it for a Mazda.

What mods do you have? what would you reccomend?

Like you, I'm gonna wait for spring to patch up my rust, scrub out all the surface rust on the bottom, spray primer, and undercoat.

I'll also get a new tank from Rock auto

>>
>>16089006

>>
>>16088888
Nice quints.
Not entirely sure, but this should be the complete list so far:
- TRD suspension
- Cusco stabilizers
- Reinforced control arms
- Full custom exhaust (4:1 exhaust header into cat, resonator, muffler)
- Cusco oil catch tank
- Unbranded strut braces front and rear
- Brake cylinder stopper
- A3A Advans with Nankang NS2R 185/60 R14

Engine seems stock, unless it's HKS cast iron cams. Haven't looked inside yet. All else is fully loaded 1984 JDM GT-Apex spec (power steering, AC, radio, electric mirrors, all original red interior, no power windows or locks).
What I'd recommend is primarily suspension mods and freeing up intake/exhaust. As I have the MAP instead of the AFM thanks to being JDM, it doesn't need a swap or cone filter. Intake is stock, engine is stock bluetop.

>>16088894
I guess about 190-200 kmh, but my speedo only goes to 180, so I didn't push any further.
>>
>>16091973
I never did 210km/h once, but not with my car.
A 1KR-FE doesn´t have the power to go that fast, more than 175 on a flat road is impossible with my 107/aygo.

Anybody else in ontario had to deal with appraisals?
I've had 5 cars and I have a friend who's had 3 that according to them needed an appraisal, but neither of us has ever had to get one.
>>
>>16097414
Appraisal from who?
>>
>>16097778
I guess I wasn't exactly clear. if you want to register a car over 20 years old now, you have to pay tax on it based on appraisal. it's your job to find the appraisal. this is annoying because you have to do it, but great if you can find somebody to appraise your car for 16 cents and a snickers bar and pay tax on that.
>>
>>16097801
i thought they went by KBB? well at least they do in my state (Connecticut)

>>16097801
In Illinois we just pay $100 a year for registration. A little extra for special plates.
>>
>>16097871
You pay something like that here in canada as well. just here, you pay tax when you register the car and it used to be base on your bill of sale. now you need an appraisal apparently.
They didn't even ask for the bill of sale.

I need a job, in college living with my mom right now, But the plan is to do shit in this order as I get money, and if I total the car in that time i'll probably get like an RSX because there's no way im getting another clean SC/Supra in the area where I live (San Diego), maybe an IS 2JZ build we'll see when the time comes.

Mods in order I want to do them:
Fix shitty Nakamichi stereo - ~$400
Coilovers - ~$600
Exhaust/Cold Air intake - ~$500?
Rims - ~$300
W58 Tranny Swap - ~$3k
Limited Slip Dif - ~$500
Nos kit - ~$1k
Single turbo setup - ~$3k?

At that point i'll probably be making like 600hp and i'll daily it until the motor blows and swap a 1JZ/2JZ or do a full VVTi 1UZ rebuild/swap and go all out depending on what my financial situation is. That's years out for me though.

Pic is some faggot on reddit lol

Another option i'm thinking of in the far future is to do a full supercharger kit on the 1UZ for like $6k instead of the turbo and I could probably make like 800hp if I really pushed it with like 150 shot of Nos. Make the Soarer Hellcat lmao.

Get the engine to a decent oil temperature, deflate you tires a bit under the recomended level, don´t be shy with the rpms remove spare tire, keep the gas tank almost empty and remove anything possible you won´t need during the race.

Thanks.

Just in case I'm not gonna redline the engine too much and push the car too much.
>>
>>16102484
It doesn´t hurt your engine to do so if you have the engine warmed up properly.
Most toyota VVT-i Engines get their best performance only if you rev them high, my 1KR-FE for example gets its peak power 500rpm before its redline.

Lower, nice rims, mild tint, non fag color.
That's pretty much the quick guide to making a car not look like normie trash.

Hard tops are really hard to find, but try to anyway. After that, lightweight wheels with fat meats.

Don't turn it off right away after racing. If you're taking corners, make sure you don't flip the damn thing over.

How to make sure I don't flip it? Avoid transistions from hard to soft surface? Don't make sudden turns? Don't fight the car when it spins out?
There's gonna be like 3" of snow on the runway anyway so high speeds are not very propable
>>
>>16107416
If you flip over you won´t spin out, you will realise it flips over when your car banks to much.
If there realy is 3" of snow there you won´t flip over since you won´t get nearly enough traction to do so.

Okay, thanks again. Sorry if questions are stupid.

I'm excited to see if rav4 has the handling of a "hot-ish hatchback" like the reviews suggest.

Hopefully soon I can get a nice MR2
>>
>>16107692
My mom had one, I wouldn't say it exactly felt like a hatchback. Decent acceleration though, even in the 4 cylinder. At one point the V6 rav4 was the fastest car in toyota's line-up.
The AWD was kinda mediocre too, its the shitty type the only kicks in when it detects slippage
>>
>>16107808
Yeah AWD is pretty shitty. I've ended up in a snowpile numerous time since the awd helps you crash rather than prevents it

Need some advice gents.

'93 N/A sw20. Needs new struts, a few oil leaks: sump and rear main at minimum, and finally, a new clutch in the next 6 months.

Quoted at a mechanic because I have no interest in wrenching on the 3sge: $1500 to do clutch and seals. Struts I can do myself.

Found an entire gen 2 3sgte drivetrain, absolutely everything included except the turbo instrument cluster. $2500. I would do the swap over a few weeks with friends and lots of beer because it's interesting. Seller says everything has been rebuilt, and everything does look very tidy. Will compression test when I go inspect next week.

Should I convert my N/A or buy a factory turbo?

I'm in $4200 at the moment with my N/A, and it's not super tidy, it's acceptable. Total cost after conversion will be approximately $6700. I could sell it currently for $4500, resale might be $6000 after the turbo swap?

High km turbos start at $7000.

Having trouble making a decision. Swapping engines seems like a fun learning experience, and I have the time and patience for it, just have no interest in the n/a engine.

Car is used as a run about daily, not intending to chase ridiculous power, but might try to get to 200wkw.
>>
I would build it. You already know your car is clean, having a rebuilt motor I'm your car makes it basically perfect doesn't it? How much do you like your mr2? Would you like it that much more if it was faster? And most importantly, if something goes wrong or unexpected and you have to spend like 2 grand more than anticipated, would you still be happy with your car in the end?
>>
>>16108247
Do you love your mr2?

Anon with a stalling mark 3,what was the symptoms?

Mines retarded right now.
>idles normally
>rev to 2k rpm
>when I let go, it drops to line 200rpm and struggles to idle rpm
>rev to 3k rpm
>it stalls
>10 minutes later if doing this
>no symptoms after revving it to test it again
I don't think it's a vacuum leak, definitely not the alternator as I first thought when it died while driving, I think it's a sensor about to go bad.

Bad ground to the ecu(under the manifold)
Bad CPS sensor connection.
Bad ICV, but I doubt that.
For the CPS, this usually involved soldering on a new 4pin plug.
>>
>>16109166
>>16108898
Check the ecu diagnostic read out.
in the diagnostic box above the fusebox in the engine bay, jumper T to E1 I believe. double check that info just in case. when you turn the car on(but don't start it) the check engine light will read stuff to you in morse code with 5 seconds in between codes. if it flashes 11, that's a bad ground to the ecu. after I resoldered the cps sensor and litterally just wiggled that, my car worked perfectly again.
Sorry if my explanation sucked, try this link.

When I start it up, some times it takes a long crank or it starts up fine but that initial rpm drop goes so low it's like it's about to stall. My bro said it's no concern but it's probably a wiring or sensor

Weird. maybe try just clearing the ecu and see what happens? unplug the efi fuse for like 30 minutes(or for the night or whatever) then try and drive it again. mine was doing that right after it started starting again, but stopped after I did that. the first start in a while for my supra is rough, but after that it's fine. it sounds kind of like your starting thing. I'm going to look at/clean my idle control valve and see if that changes anything. I'll post if it helps.

Mostly rust, ricing, engine condition. Gauge the owner if they drew it like a madman or not.

If anything, because it's a Corolla the chassis isn't even properly braced for the engine so that's why it's an understeering pig when stock. A swaybar kit and coilovers can easily correct that.

I have a '96 Starlet. Four years now.

It's rather uncomfortable, drives pretty shitty and space is tight. But it's so reliable and simple, it has never let me down. I've grown to really like the little bastard. Had a couple of Nissans before. Not going back there.

Pic is not my car, but pretty much identical.

I changed the clutch recently on my Lexus IS300. Everything went through smoothly. Now I'm finding gear oil dripping between the transmission and bellhousing.

While the trans was out, I already replaced the goddamn Input Shaft Main Seal and I'm honestly confused why it's leaking gear oil. I don't want to take out the transmission again for a while.

no, you push it every day uphill both ways just like grandpa did when he went to school

It's kind of annoying to find stains on my driveway, I had to resort to park it in my garage with cardboard beneath the car.

So planning to replace the main input shaft seal too?

God only knows.
Spark and fuel. I don't have a compression tester to test compression. I think perhaps I snapped my timing belt? Maybe it's flooded? I literally just don't know anymore.

the alternator on mine ripd on a busy 4 lane road at night so no lights iin the middle of 60mph traffic. changed it in a bank parking lot at 1 in the morning, luckily autozone had it in stock and i managed to get there before they closed. i think my valve stem seals are bad, so i think ill just give the whole engine a refresh including head gasket, clutch, and trans and dif fluid. my mk3 is definitely much more of a shitbox than i anticipated, thats what you get when you buy 30 years old

It got worse today

Finished work at 4 PM, walk outside and feel the phone vibrating. Its the tire place, calling me up to let me know that they're not able to get me the tires I ordered as their supplier is out....

Went straight to a local tire place, had them order a set of the exact same. Gonna end up paying about $80 more, but I'll get them on Monday

It wouldn't be so bad if I had tires that were actually somewhat capable, but at this point I've gotta keep it in 4WD at nearly all times, and I've gotta take corners damned carefully and brake way earlier than what I'd like to

Then again, what can you expect with these amazing studs in the tires?
>>
>>16140886
It's kinda nice having them but I feel that small rectangular ones would looks better considering the shape of the turn signals.

So this is my car. I was wondering what way i should go..
I have manual swap already

92 1uz (4.0 v8)

* the goal is around 300-400 hp

should I go.

supercharger

built na

turbo

I know how to get to my goals from each option but wanted to see what you guys think.
>>
>>16141809
I think forced induction is the way to go since there are off the shelf kits for both applications. Built NA would be costly and off for such a heavy car. But NA response machines are super rad. But yeah turbo kit or s/c kit.

I have my plate, registration papers, the VIN, the shift knob, front badge, papers, key, and a lot of repair bills from the previous owner. The old woman sold it because she couldn't drive stick anymore, and she decided to get it spruced up before selling. She accidentally bought and installed platinum plugs and an aftermarket exhaust.
