I'm looking at an $850 1996 miata today that has been sitting for a while. An old man owns it an wants it gone. Apparently the price is low because of "lifter tick", I'm suspecting that all the oil drained out of the HLAs while it was sitting.

If this thing ends up being in ok condition it'll be a deal.

Lifter tick is no big deal, definitely buy that shit

ok figured I repost this since i deleted it in the other thread.

Just purchased this Miata this week.

Still not sure if I want to daily it for the winter.

If I do I guess I'd need winter tires, a hardtop and to spray some fluid film on the underbody or I could just get a winter beater. that comes with ac/heat.

What do you guys think?

(no I didn't pay $4500 for it.)

MSMs are good, especially if you live in a place with strict emissions where the stock ecu is needed to pass.

If your area doesn't use the obd port to do emissions testing then it's more cost effective to just turbocharge an originally naturally aspirated NB. Turbo'd NBs are usually quicker than MSMs as well.

Start with the door bushings, very cheap and improves a lot. If you are going to install the hardtop permanently I recommend the Jass performance mounts, really helps to stiffen the car up for a small price. I'd upgrade the brakes last if the current ones will last until then.

I'm in need of advice for my sickly nb8a

Bought my puppy and got involved in an accident via my wheel bearing and cv joint fucking up. The car skid over a storm drain like a skate board with the rear left wheel impacting the storm drain wall which lifted the car and in turn saved me and my friends life.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated greatly.

Here's what we've found with the car after the accident

>Rust under the rhs door before the seam & inside the trunk
>LHS front guard is out of alignment as well as LHS door slightly (Door has a slightly bigger gap than the right side)
>Rear trunk of the car is misaligned, i've been told once i replace the diff housing it'll snap back in place but i'm unsure if the chassis is misaligned
Posting Photos of all these, i'll update with any new developments

We're also in the middle of replacing the diff & diff housing so i have all the replacement parts needed

You're gonna have to replace the hood or find a body shop that can straighten it out. Once they do or you find a new one, replace the hinges too you probably bent them.

The door can be removed from behind the fender and repositioned, bring a friend as it's a bitch to align especially by yourself. On the NA it's a little tricky to remove the fender because of the front clip, I imagine it'll be easier on the NB.

Can you describe to me how the diff housing would come into play with the trunk being off center? I've never heard of such a thing.

The rust you're describing under the doors is on the rocker panels, and those actually rust from the inside out so you're going to have to cut the rockers panels out and weld new ones in.

As for the trunk, it's properly fucked.

I honestly recommend selling it or parting it out. Depends on how much you like the car, I like my NA's enough to spend the $3k+ needed to fix your issues, but I can't say that about my NB. Just an opinion. If you like the car, fix.

Try peeling back the trunk liner inside, and loosen the latch that holds the trunk down. Don't fully remove it just loosen it and lower it as much as you can, tighten the latch back and then test the trunk. If you can't close it, loosen and raise the latch. It's in such slight increments, like millimeters. One of my NA's was high up like yours and I lowered the latch and whatdayaknow. You may need to close the trunk a lot harder, I use a little more force than I use to on mine. Also works for the hood if it's too recessed or too lifted.
>>
>>16085832

https://vermont.craigslist.org/cto/5810687820.html

I'll probably buy a shitpan if I do end up with a Miata.
>>
>>16088045
Miatas are good first cars, just be prepared for the lack of space, one passenger, etc.
>>
How to driver mod?
>>
>>16088921
I prefer two seaters, so it'll be fine. As for space, I figured there was gonna be none. But I am 5'3 135lbs, so I'll fit nicely.
>>
>>16089173
Remove passenger seat for more space.

I was able to fit four 224/45r15 tyres in the passenger side. Also great for throwing 2 weeks worth of groceries in.

Finished selling my third and fourth cars today, so it's time to tickle my NC. What would you guys recommend I do to start?

Right now I have the door bushings and redline MTF ordered, and am currently working on building a 2.5L in my garage, so I'm not interested in power. Looking at a nice DDable suspension but don't know what's good in the 1-2k range. Any other must haves that come to mind?

Pic is my headlight restoration before and after
>>
>>16078332
No, they sit in that little metal cup on the outer edge of your door. The stock bushing doesn't fill that cup completely and also is made of rubber which can be pretty beat up at this point. I have them in my NB and I love them.
>>
>>16090482
You're doing the timing belt? Just line up your marks and count the teeth

Ya I got it times again. First time doing this kinda nervous.
The harmonic balancer is wobbly how do I fix it? If I look up loose harmonic balancer I get things telling me it is time to replace it. Did I just botch this job?

Depends on what you want. NB feels like a better platform for a fun and sporty feeling car, the ND feels like a better platform for cruiser. My NB sport felt way sportier than the new ND sport, but I don't know how sporty you can make the ND feel.

I have they on my NB and they are the softest coilovers I've found, and they ride really comfy at the softer settings. Try to find someone saying anything bad about Meister-R on the internet. I haven't seen anyone complain about them yet, so it feels like they are good.
>>
>>16091522
>but I don't know how sporty you can make the ND feel
I think from what youre feeling it's the huge amount of body roll the car has stock
>>
Fuck miatas is all I have to say.
Was going to a trackday yesterday, broke down on the way there. ECU seems to have fried. GRRR!
>>
>>16091542
Yes. The ND suspension and rollbars feels a lot softer, and the cabin feels more isolated as well.
>>
>>16088363
I think Connecticut or whatever states up there don't give titles to cars.
>>
What's your opinion on IL motorsport?
Their products are very accessible for me as a European, but I don't know what kind of quality they hold.
>>
What chance is there that the ECU from a 2000 (BP4W) would work on a 1997 (BP3A)? Looks like the plug form factor is the same. I figure it probably wouldn't but who knows, the 97 and 00 are pretty similar. Would rather not have to spend $140 on a ECU if a $30 one would work.

£775 vs £725 for the normal ZetaCRD. You must be looking at the GT1. The ZetaCRD probably offers quite a lot more comfort because they use rubber top mounts instead of coaxial ones.

interested in these too. on my last MOT my bilsteins had "slight corrosion to the casing" as advisory items so that's as good an excuse as any to upgrade...

their website doesn't seem all that helpful when comparing the zetaCRD, zetaCRD+ (and zeta R and zeta S)

i'm guessing the CRD has lower spring rates than the CRD+? wonder how much difference it makes in practice

They had the spring rates specified for the Zeta S and Zeta R and they were 6kg/5kg F/R for Zeta S and 10kg/6kg for Zeta R, and the Zeta R had the pillow ball top mounts instead of the rubber ones, so it won't absorb as much vibration. You could just send them a mail if you have a question.

I want to try the 205 on the 15x8, seeing as the sidewall isn't allowed to flex as much as the 225. 225 grip is insane around a turn, my car feels planted while I slide around in my seat. My tires do kick up a bunch of shit though.

When I bought the car it was running 195s on 15x8 and it was not that great in terms of grip.

Who here has bought revlimiter guagues for their miata and installed them? I was considering getting one for Christmas, possibly the warlord or whatever it is with war in the name. Worth it?

Also, who here has a maaco paint job of their miata? I plan on getting one through them

Looks better than i expected. Only gripe i have is that the volume knob is not lit. They could have put the forward/backwards buttons to the left. The radio could remember that i put it on shuffle. It could show the artist name/song tittle as a default and not the overall track number.

M-money well spent.

i don't have revlimiters so i can't comment on quality, though i heard some good things about them

but i have custom gauges installed

if you are wondering about the installation it's not a hassle, except for setting the needles correctly

I really kinda want a miata, it's been recommended to me 3 times IRL as a good car to work on and get sideways in.

I've got my sights set on pic related, is there anything immediately off about the price or description? Other pictures show a damn clean car.

Is there no recourse if I want a hard top? Or at least a less cloth-y looking rag top (if such a thing exists)?

then you basically need a rollbar and some racing suspension and you're good to go

i've seen people embarassing theoretically way faster cars with these little shits

but that's only on a more technical tracks, anywhere with a bit longer straights and you're fucked

How steep is steep? I guess for 1500 a running car can't be beat, but it looks like he deleted a lot of stuff.

He seems like the typical "FIRM" seller so I don't want to piss him off, how low would you go?

More info in his description
>>
>>16108286
In my area $1500 is a steal for a straight and running car. I'd do it, seems like a good place to start.

But dude cop those extra parts if you can manage, especially if to plan on drifting. You're gonna break stuff

Ok /mg/

I'm 99% sure my head gasket blew on my '94 today. It randomly died today after a long drive, couldn't figure out why. I let it cool down for a few minutes and it started back up again and I drove it home. Now there is a giant puddle of coolant under my car.

So I'm planning on pulling the motor and trans completely to do the head gasket as well as tidy things up in the engine bay

My question is this, do I shave the head .020 or .030 in and get a thinner head gasket, adjustable cam gears, and try to go for a mild N/A build?

Or do I get ARP headstuds, metal head gasket, coolant reroute and prep the motor for potential boost?

My car is 100% stock minus an intake

not true at all lol

You realize this same engine came in the 323GTX which was in fact turbocharged. The BP is equipped with a forged crankshaft, oil squirters, 9:1 compression etc. All good things for turbo applications

15x8 with gforce rival 205/50/15
>>
>>16112260
that's incorrect
a proper turbo setup will be reliable

miata's engines are actually quite heavy and robust, they can take the boost no problemo

i've seen a dd miata boosted to 240hp and the guy who drove it said he didn't had any problems at all
and that's on a 1.6 engine, so it had twice the power

Not sure why you're trying to be a dick about this. Yes, tidy things up. I'm considering doing a wire tuck and removing some unnecessary stuff/hiding it. And yes, it might not be a head gasket but I want to do it anyway. Like I said I'm 99% sure.

>>16114182
Do you want a scientific study or something? Plenty of miatas are turbocharged and reliable. They're originally designed to take boost anyway. Of course it's going to be unreliable over 250 hp, but that isn't to say all turbo miatas are unreliable
