What's /o/'s preferred method of getting rid of scratches like this? The dude who owned my shitbox before me didn't take very good care of it.

those are from a shitty radial buffer
you need new paint homie
>>16051350
get a good cut compound and buff that shit off by hand if you don't know how to use a buffer

The rest of the car looks fine but the roof is disgusting. Is there anything else I could do aside from new paint? That'd cost more than I paid for the car itself...
Would polish work for this or is it too deep?

>wash
>claybar
>compound
>polish
>sealant
don't be a bitch, this will make your paint look like new again. Your paint still looks healthy
>>16051417
since its a shitbox I wouldn't repaint it either that would be dumb. Do what >>16051430 said and it should look better but not perfect and it will need to be redone every so often. Honestly if its not that noticeable and you aren't trying to resell or refurbish I'd just leave it alone.

this. no worries OP, your paint is very likely fine overall if you're just seeing deep swirls like that. Polish compounds will knock that out pretty quick, since paint swirls are just very minor marring on a car surface.
Just don't take your car to a car wash, thats no good

Not OP, but I have a question.
So I washed, clay barred and now just removed swirl marks.. Can I add a coat of wax on top of the completed area? Sorry if I sound stupid, kinda new to detailing.
swirl marks makes me mad as hell
can I do this without the buffing swirly thing?
send help!!

Yes you can, you can probably find some YouTube videos demonstrating how how to do it by hand and not by using a buffer.

Clean off the polishing compound with 50/50 isopropyl/water and then apply a paint sealant -> wax
