Reposting my old Ford Motoring valve covers and air cleaner. They came off a super stock 289. I'll be doing them in low-gloss black with white letters and throwing them on my 302. Thoughts?

Yeah the Bel Air would def be the car to fix, he bought that one staight from the factory in Baltimore. Both were show-tier when he stopped working on them, he got too old and the cars were too big for him to work on. He also didnt have any sons to help him at the time as well. He wound up buying a Model A roadster ~10 years ago so he could keep on tinkering.

My Buddys selling a 1971 GMC K2500, its got a 350 with just replaced head gaskets and a transmission less than a year old. Should I get as a first truck/first v8? Im a fan of cars and love working on them but have never had or worked on v8 or american stuff, so im interested in learning how to work on it. Its beat but the frame is straight and the brakes work.

Just a 318. However, a previous owner installed a top-end kit.

>>
>>16057594
Good story behind this truck by the way, bought it from the original owner who bought it new in 65, he also has a 1954 3100 that is 100% stock, and a 40's chevy flat bed that was the local school districts FIRST mechanics truck. So the owner had a lot of history and had restored this truck with his son about 8 years ago. And along with those trucks he has a 60 something chevy 2 door belair that all his children, and grand children learned to drive in. As well as a 60's ford wagon. This guy has so many perfect running classics and we picked this truck up for 4500 as it looks here. Fucking awesome, not to mention it was my dads dream truck and we bought it together.

if you want a hotrod look I think taking out a significant amount of spring would be fine, it would lower the rear and counter the slight stink bug stance you have. There are tons of ways to do these things, it's just your preference. And i'm sure you know this already.

Ok yeah, I think the biggest issue you will face is worn out springs, and that's it. When we bought the truck it had pic related, took them out of the coils and it dropped about a half inch. They are the poor mans new springs. I don't have many pictures of the tuck all around but I have to stock up on some for when people ask about shit, like you have. Hopefully what ever route you go satisfies you.
>>
>>16058301
all I know is that the shock absorbers are at least 30 years old and do fuckall. I will be swapping the I beams for some off a 76 F250 so that I can get disk brakes, and in the meantime I will be replacing the shocks, springs and hopefully the bushings.

most likely all aluminum. I'm sure there's a rare few cars from that period that still used copper radiators.

what you're most likely seeing is just the rust on the pot metal radiator cap, and some dirt on the black paint of the actual radiator.

weird though, that radiator looks like a copper one what with the top being shaped like that. You can tell it's that because of the way it is.

How do I junk a classic car? Can I call a regular junkyard like lkq to come pick it up? It is missing the front subframe and is only on 2 wheels.

How much should I expect to get from it? It is a 69 4 door nova that is mostly stripped. So probably just worth the scrap weight.

Any one have some insight on classic car scrapyards in the Los Angeles area?

I'd run them. You can always swap them out at leisure but they aren't likely to be bad on a Ford. I've owned and worked on many Ford pickups. I've never encountered a bad set of front coils though the F100s are a bit soft by design.

Make sure your calipers move freely and inspect and repack your front wheel bearings.

BTW if you want to carry heavy loads you can weld short pieces of 1/4" wall square tubing to the overload spring stops to they just barely touch your overloads which most F-250 and F-350s have. It's an old tow truck trick and drastically reduces squat when hauling heavy weights. It's also easy to grab heavy duty leaf spring packs off other Fords and swap them in.

Go to the Ford Truck Enthusiasts forums for all your Ford info. There are many active and retired Ford techs there and a large, highly experienced user base.
>>
>>16087085
Reusing soft or hard brake lines is retarded. You are right to replace them.

It died while idling when I was almost home, the alternator belt was very loose, I think it was running just on the battery. It took a few tries last night to start it back up after tightening the belt and jumping it. Started fine this morning. Is the battery okay?

These distributors do have vacuum advance on them, they simply do not have points and a condenser. They are even easier than points and condenser systems

I thought your lincoln was a 60's model. I scrolled up, saw suicide doors and assumed.

did you fuck with the evap system at all? Like unplugging the vacuum canister? I had a 77 lincoln I removed all the emissions crap on. Couldn't figure out why the fuck it was vapor locking afterwards.
>>
>>16089303
I have a 68 Continental and recently purchased an 81 Continental, which is the one I'm posting about.

I didn't fuck with any evap stuff until an hour ago or so, plus the evap line to the carb was already messed with by one of the POs

the best thing you could do to get that running in tip top shape is to buy a vacuum gauge and a timing light. there's guides online on how to tune with these two things. Plus a vacuum gauge can tell you almost anything wrong with an engine. You can pick up a cheap vacuum gauge online pretty cheap, or if there's a horror freight near you that's a thing too.
>>
>>16089361
I already have both of those things and was using them today.
Vacuum was at 20"hg just two days ago yet today I was lucky for it to even reach 16"hg. The timing wasn't too far off either.
I ordered a new Base gasket for the carb but it won't be here until Tuesday, so that will rule one possible leak out.

it's 100% country, was very dramatic with all the fog this morning. kid I bought parts from was a good dude. he's building a 76 highboy for his first owned car, and has like 7 old fords on the property, including a bitching '76 crew cab f250 with a 460 and a 4 speed. I hope he gets them running.

So, I'd like some opinions. While I intend on replacing the entire quarter panel due to the rust (I'm not going to put flares on it) for right now I'm considering getting a cutting wheel and removing the lower portion of the rearmost section of the quarter panel where the worst of the rust is. Basically at the "crease" where the rust has already eaten most of the panel away. This is very much a temporary thing, but if I can do small shit to improve the aesthetics of the truck for the time being...

Anyway, opinions?

The engine would come out to do the clutch anyway. Only bad thing about building the engine in it now is it's only a 2 bolt main, so if I ever decided to slap a blower on it probably wouldn't hold up too well

I have always thought the 944 in red was such a sharp looking car. my german neighbors' son had one when I was a little boy and I always remembered walking home from school and staring at it.

>>16090512
i'd go with a bigger cam, aluminum heads, 9.75:1 pistons, and maybe even a full roller set up. you could also stroke it. what's the difference between bellhousings for a BBC and a SBC

I am pretty sure the LS has no provisions at all for a distributor, you have to run a standalone MSD unit.

>>16090636
I wouldn't mind trickflows for the 302 I want, but fuck it's not worth the money when I am just going to use the stock long block from a 96 explorer and get provisions for rollers as well as GT40 heads. shit would be clutch.

>>16090663

no. I will get the long block, a distributor from a 85 manual transmission gt mustang, edelbrock performer RPM intake and some 500cfm 4 barrel carb. probably an edelbrock 1403.

I think for the cam I want a FRPP E303 cam.
>>
>>16090685
Ford racing shorty headers fit the gt40ps just dandy. $350. https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-9430-T50

A little pricey but would be nice to lose a little weight off the nose with aluminum heads.

I would love a bitching 500ft/lb i6. but I also don't want to have to fabricate the whole thing, engineer a blow through carb setup.

that, and I think the compression isn't that good anyway. odds are I would blow a whole in the piston.
>>

I did a bunch of searching for stuff related to the GT40/P head swap for the Bronco, and came up with that. There was a whole thread... Here: http://www.fullsizebronco.com/forum/7-1980-96-bronco-tech/66998-gt40p-engine-bronco-gt40p-heads-gt40p-headers-work.html

Includes headers that WILL NOT work, specifically tailored for the Bronco though.
>>
>>16090746
that 40lb/ft of torque from the regular 40s to the p makes it worth it, parts are just fucking expensive holmes.
>>
>>16090754
That they are. I'm at the point where I'm putting all of my spare money into the Bronco right now. I'm always doing something to it, so my friends and roommates think it's constantly broken and I have to be like "no it's not broken, but I'm fixing it anyway"

That's not a CST truck, that trim was discontinued in 70. That is actually a Cheyenne Super.
