SRT4 mainly because I'm a Mopar guy and it would be the devil I know. However I'm fairly confident that a Cobalt SS that's the same price as an SRT4 is going to have much higher mileage and/or be more fucked up but some GM fangirl might argue that the Cobalt has had less chance to be beat up on. I definitely see more girls in Cobalt SS than in SRT4s for whatever that's worth. I did notice Ion Redlines a couple years ago but I think maintenance would eat up your savings on purchase price pretty quickly but again I'm much much more familiar with SRT4 than either of the other two.

Had a 2010 turbo cobalt through 160k miles.

Hand brakes can be problematic. Be prepared to clean and regressed float pins twice a year.

I redlined mine at least a dozen times a day for 5 years and it never burned a drop ofrom oil with 10k mile change intervals.

Still on factory clutch when I sold it and it was gripping tight.

Had gms1 tune from 30k miles on.

It will out corner most and out brake virtually everything short of super exotics. Brakes are dirt cheap and unless fadeable.

Infinitely more composed than a speed3 or gtx on dicey pavement

Averaged about 29mpg over the life of the car per my logs.

I test drove an evo x, sti, wrx, speed3, gti, r32, and civic si for the 2010 model year and the Cobalt was the clear winner for day to day liveability and raw performance. That it was reliable through 160k miles of beating mercilessly was a bonus

2008-2010 is what you're looking for in that regard.

Before that you could end up with a naturally aspirated or a sc.

People put a premium on cobalt with a the G80 iirc limited slip differential but I'd say don't worry about it and maybe even avoid it if you are in an area prone to snow.

The Ion Redline is only equivalent to the SS SC, the SS TC is much better than either. Plus, the cobalt has a nicer interior.
