About time. Their light vans and heavy vans have been polluting the market for so long, its about time they produced a light truck that wasn't a G-klasse.

Also, there is no such thing as a luxury truck. We just need a nice German truck on the market and the VW Amarok isn't coming to the USA.

This would of been a perfect idea, that or a half ton Merc that isn't a re-branded Titan.
>>
>>16044044
It's a good thing the Nissan on which it's based has three different cab and bed options then. So you can order which ever is relevant.
>>
>>16044096
>zero suspension sag

Yeah, that thing may tow a whopping 2000lbs, but that thing is not hauling 2000lbs in the bed.

>>16044030
That's because the big 3 meet all demands needed in the US for "work trucks" and fleet vehicles, as well as managing to market them to the masses of all types, the ones who actually use their trucks, and the ones who just cover them in light bars and drive to the store.

>paying extra for a merc badge because muh german

Meanwhile, you can go pay $5000 or less for an old 3/4 ton or 1 ton big 3 pickup that's proven and reliable and can beat on without worrying, or if you have real money, go buy some fancy dancy $75k 3500 series dually to haul your $100k 40 foot 5th wheel out to tourist areas and "rough it" with Tyrese's children for a weekend.
>>
>>16043777
But they're not going to sell it in the US.
>>
>>16046712
>Yeah, that thing may tow a whopping 2000lbs, but that thing is not hauling 2000lbs in the bed.
Given the fact the very pickup you commented on is factory rated for a 960kg payload an a 3000kg towing capacity, I'd say your ill informed opinion is one that's not worth listening to.
>>
>>16046588
This.
>>
European and even Asian carmakers that don't already have established product lines are hesitant to get into the American pickup market because they have to manufacture the vehicles in the US (chicken tax). That investment in American manufacturing capacity is expensive, so they prefer to use it for vehicles they know will sell well.

VAG's American division has its head up its ass, but even they will jump on the bandwagon if German trucks start selling in America.

Some of the carmakers seem to believe that "crossover pickups" and other non-work trucks are the next automotive trend- we'll see.

>>16046751
I think that anon is talking about the picture. if that block weighed a literal ton, the rear end of the truck would be riding a lot lower.

Also, assuming a somewhat uniform weight distribution, something that heavy and that tall would be unsafe as fuck to haul upright like that.
>>
>>16044044
Those are used as work 'trucks' where I live. In Australia half the tradesman have a hilux type ute or even a 4wd/station wagon. They get by fine and most of them actually use it to haul shit, unlike in america.

That's because that market is shrinking, as no one can afford them anymore. General interest of new generations into cars is diminishing quickly as well, but, in the end, has that same root cause.

Just a question, would you not think it'd be a more affordable option badge engineering an already existing product thats been available to the consumer market for some time now, as oppose from designing a vehicle from the ground up going through the R&D process from scratch?
Do you not see the contradiction in your own post? Good thing Mercedes don't take economic advice from unwashed plebs such as yourself.

It's just a Nissan, right?

But a Nissan that's not sold in America.

The styling from the recent promo video looks like it's for girls. Maybe a lipstick lesbian truck? Interesting to see if that's a market that exists and those women have enough money to get one. Perhaps their butch oil worker wives will buy it for them.
>>
>>16052223
Uh isn't that a Sprinter?

They're incredibly good vans that can get 30mpg+ while they're capable of holding 2-4 tons of cargo.

The problem is that replacement parts are stupidly high priced so you're better off getting a Transit.

Seeing comments like this I guess that if the new merc pickup is indeed a real utility truck it won't be sold in the us. What MB work vehicles are available in the US anyways?

Here we've got all sorts; Sprinter, Vito, Citan (rebadged frenchie shit), Unimog, MB Trac, semi trucks and more (not all are still in production).

Still, I maintain a healthy skepticism, atleast here in Norway. The average pickup buyer is after something that isn't insanely expensive, is solid, has a high tow rating and comes with a strong diesel engine AND also a manua trannyl, as this is a customer group that tends to be still very adamant about their manual transmission. I don't see Mercedes being quite able to grab a sustainable piece of the market, as they'll have to fight the japanese trucks; legendary HiLux, affordable L200, rugged D-Max and all-rounder Navara, the latter the one its actually built on. It'll also have to fight the VW Amarok for the "slightly more luxurious than the competitors"-market
>>
>>16053534
The Sprinter came over a few years ago, though many of them were sold with Dodge badges before they split with Chrysler.

The Vito (called "Metris" here) was introduced more recently, and that's pretty much it.

Not really sure what their strategy is here, since work vans aren't even that popular here, and adding work vehicles to the lineup could taint the "luxury brand" halo that Mercedes enjoys in the United States. But then, the CLA class could do the same thing if they sell enough of them.

They are in the US as well, the only difference is they are pretty good at just about everything except fuel economy

So if you are willing to put up with the poor fuel economy, there's really no reason to not just DD the truck, and use it when you need it.
