Change your headlight fluid

Burn the whole car. It's bad now.

Toothpaste.

Serious here. Can also use it to fix small scratches on CD's.

wax the SHIT out of them. get a good wax on a microfiber cloth and do apply firmly multiple times.

Your headlights aren't that faded yet, you can bring them back.

>>

Do you need a toothbrush?
>>
>>16043218
Not him, but I can confirm it works very well
Just put some tooth paste on a dry towel or wash cloth and scrub the headlight really good, then spray it down with water, then wipe it clean
Should take a few tries but you should notice the results immediately
Also toothpaste helps prevent windows from fogging up

what's wrong with ChrisFix? the only negative thing about this guy is that he always uses way more stuff than necessary.

>Full Procedure
-Take headlight out.
-Wet-sand in large sink at increasing grits (I went 600 -> 1000 -> 2000 grits) under a constant water stream.
-Use PlastX or similar plastic polish on a microfiber cloth and polish the shit out if it until it looks new again.
>Short procedure; just do the last step while the lights are on the car.
>>
>>16043023
I did all of those to my headlights a while ago except for the clear coat, did I fuck up? Do headlights normally have a clear coat layer on them to begin with?
>>
>>16043293
Nothing, I like his videos, very informative. I just like to call him cuckfix because I'm a dumbass memer
>>
Real easy kinda temp fix is bug spray. Shit you not. Spray some on the headlights and rub the piss out of them with paper towel and it removes the yellowing. Stays clean for a couple months then do it again or get them waxed.

any kind of fine polish will do
toothpaste if you don't have any

my cars headlights only cost 60 bucks so i just bought them

>>16043584
The one on the left? It's fine, it's a 13 year old headlight it's not going to be perfect. The one on the right I hadn't done yet.

You should've seen them to begin with. Pretty much 5ft of light.

Lives outside, has been thoroughly abused off road, gets washed once a month.

Not even sure the owner before me washed or cleaned it more than quarterly.

Honestly I think it has more do with the materials originally used.

buy the Harbor freight Headlight Restore kit
http://www.harborfreight.com/deluxe-lens-renewal-system-62663.html
It's a small disc sander for a drill. It has a few grits and then polishing compound. It works really fucking well. And since you arent hand sanding, it works really quickly.

I bought one from Turtle and it's a bottle of lube and two sanding sponges. It sucks. the HF one is the best.
>>
>>16043577
you polished out the light flaws toward the top, but the lower ones are deeper and you didnt sand them out. Use something high grit.
>>
>>16043023
Do not buff before clear. The clear needs a semi rough surface in order to adhere. Red scotchbrite is the last thing I'd use before clear
>>
>>16043459
You dun goofed. 3000 grit is too smooth for the clear to bond
>>
>>16042845
Spray mosquito repelent with high deet percent, buff off
>>
>>16043796
Works perfectly for me, used 2K-Clearcoat
>>
Clearcoat? Why? It's just surface oxidation.

Just buff them with a towel and polishing compound. 10 minute job. Repeat every several years.
>>
Before you waste money on supplies, use some plastic buffing compound, and see if they make an improvement. Sometimes the inside of the headlight assembly gets fadded too, and if its at that point, you need to replace em

Get this, it's like $16 from walmart. Then get a UV? clearcoat and spray them after otherwise they'll end up worse in less than a year. Take your time with the first disc and go over it a lot.

Walmart has it for more than 16 but I use this link and get them to price match it

>My headlights look foggy and yellow what do I do

The non-yellow "fog" is typically surface pitting and light scratches. Whatever you were doing to the headlight bezel you should stop doing it as it was contributing to the ultra fine scratches. Over time, damages add up to "fog". If you were using a brush to wash the car, microfiber cloth loaded up with gritty sand to clean the headlights, windex paper towel, or rough terry, you should stop. Yellowish plastic is a sign the plastic was overexposed to ultraviolet or had a bad batch of substandard raw materials from china.

You can fix fog. Yellowed plastic can be prevented but not fixed short of replacement. If you look obliquely to the surface, the fog should be apparent to your eye as being on the surface. That kind of damage you can polish off with some ultrafine polishing compound. Fog on interior surface is quite burdensome to clean but can be done.

For exterior surface fog, headlight restore plastic polishes work, but why buy them when you got toothpaste which works just as well? Clean off the headlight bezel of all grit and be indoors (closed garage) if it is windy day. Put amount of toothpaste on clean microfiber and rub gently. As long as there is a film of toothpaste between the towel and plastic, it has enough "lubrication" to not scratch even if a little atmospheric grit gets on.

Some toothpastes have larger or more grit than others. Tooth polishes such as Pearl Drops have big grit, so don't use that kind of stuff.

To prevent yellowing, use non-abrasive synthetic wax on the headlight plastic. Turtle Wax ICE works well and dries transparent. It will even fill out some scratches in the clear plastic and make them disappear until the wax wears off. It has that effect on my headlights.
>>
>>16042845

Toothpaste
>>
>>16045663
doesn't work
>>
>>16045698
Toothpaste that has "hydrated silica" is what you want. Pretty much all the toothpastes have it from pastes to gels. I know toothpaste works as a smooth abrasive polish because someone threw a rock at my rear passenger window as I drove by and left a scratch. Slum porch monkey vandals tossing rocks at random passing cars....

I used toothpaste and a paper towel folded up into an easy to hold narrow rectangle. Dabbing toothpaste on the end, I rubbed and rubbed just on the scratch and it wore away the glass smoothly. Naturally the window is thinner, but at least the scratch is gone.
>>
>>16045731
or you could just buy sand paper and plastic polish and have guaranteed crystal clear results.
>>
I used a 3M headlight renewal kit and it worked really well. Involved sanding with very fine grits and then using a rubbing compound.

It'll last for years if you spray them with clearcoat at the end that has uv protection. When you sand it you take that off so it'll get worse unless you add it.

hit them with a baseball bat. not even joking, this will actually work better than the stuff these other idiots have been saying

Bug spray, rub off with paper towel thoroughly.

Meh I simply went and machine polished mine. Look brand new. I don't know how long it would last if they fade away I''ll sand them with 1000/1500 then clear coat.
