Why don't all cars come from the factory without wheelgap, or with less? Who actually thinks it looks GOOD?

It won't scrape, I see tons of lowered BMWs and other cars with less wheelgap stock and it's only rly extreme stanced shit that scrapes.

All yall too dumb to answer my OP question. WHY does it exist.

Note:

Wheelgap =/= ground clearance
Wheelgap =/= ride height
Wheelgap =/= suspension travel

There are fine differences, and they can be related, but they are not the same.

The point is not that I engineer superior cars to Ferrari, the point is that they did not realize people's aesthetic preferences when making them. Clearly our generation's stance/vape scene shows that we want them to look a certain way, just as kids these days expect women to look the way Kim Kardashian and other various porn actresses look with the artificially exaggerated hourglass shape.
>>
>>16041477
so you know you should try harder and get those optional bigger wheels.

Wheel gap is directly related to suspension travel fuckwit. If you have no wheel gap at ride height with the same suspension travel then the wheel will travel up into the fender under compression. And you can't turn a wheel that's halfway covered by the fender unless it has autistic looking sunken in wheels like the metropolitan.
>>
>>16041568
It's the designers. Engineers can work around it and create fake-flush wheels.
>>
>>16041477
Because manufacturers have to create their cars to not be a liability just because the road is slightly damaged. The more expensive the car is, the less they're concerned about it as they don't expect you to travel in those kinds of conditions.
A Maserati is a very much DDable high-end car. A Mclaren P1 is not so much.

Tl ; dr they'd rather use your warranty on actual problems and not easily avoided suspension damage (which may set them up for a lawsuit depending on how you pitch it. A guy who spends ~100k repairing his undercarriage isn't the same as cleatus figuring uncle bill's ferrari was what he wanted to go down the backroads in)

>Wheelgap =/= ground clearance
>Wheelgap =/= ride height
>Wheelgap =/= suspension travel

Just because you say it, doesn't mean it's true.
Wheel gap has all to do with suspension travel.

Those are not race cars, they are meant to be driven by everyone who has the money to buy them, including old people and rich soccer moms who couldn't care less about muh sporty feeling and just want luxury and comfort while being seen in a Ferrari.
More comfort = softer suspensions (among other things), softer suspensions = more wheel travel, more wheel travel = more wheel gap, unless you want to have fenders so much wider than the wheel that they can accommodate a fully steered wheel without problems, which would look 10x more retarded.
The same argument goes for cheaper cars, it's all a matter of liability and comfort.

If you want smaller wheel gaps, you have to go with stiffer suspensions, but that kills driver comfort and forces you to design a car that can handle a lot more vibration and has a completely different target audience. As >>16041892 said, a P1 is a lot less DDable because of this, pic related

And before you start crying that people should just buy Bentley, Rolls or Maybach or fucking Citroen if they want the comfort, well it's not your choice nor mine to make. They have the money and Ferrari sells status symbols, Ferrari cares a lot more about them than about you complaining that their wheel gap is too large for your higher aesthetic standards.

Stop pretending you know things, your taste and fake knowledge of cars clearly means nothing for people who build and sell cars, and the market is an overwhelming evidence against your opinions.

The retard is you.
>>
>>16042024
What this guy said.

When I put on coilovers, I lost all wheel gap. Of course going lower means there is less suspension travel, and that requires stiffer springs and tougher dampers, and having those means better performance but less comfort.

But after a few weeks I've forgotten how it felt before.

And of course most people want comfortable rides as a bigger priority. Put in tonnes of money and you can get performance suspension that also is comfy, but most suspension options don't focus on comfort when aimed at performance.
>>
>>16041477
Because more people like it with the wheel gap more than you? Special snowflake.
>>
Why is wheel gap a problem?

Seriously. Why is it a problem when visible door handles and side mirrors still exist?
>>
>>16041477
>I see tons of lowered BMWs and other cars with less wheelgap stock and it's only rly extreme stanced shit that scrapes.
False, I own a car that was only lowered an inch by the previous owner, even with 4 inches of clearance it scrapes the cats and oil pan every time I pull out of Taco Bell.

I'm thinking about getting coils and putting it up higher just not to have to deal with this fucking bullshit.

Ferraris are always really high, not sure if it was bc there's is/wasnt no lift system. It wouldn't surprise me if some to it to meet regulations for bumper and headlight height? Look at how low older Ferraris are, I doubt it's "the engineers know" it's more to do with regulations

Sounds to me like the problem is not CARS but the ROADS. Poorly enginerd roads that are uneven and have too many bumps and holes.
>>
>>16045313
>Poorly enginerd roads
Yeah because it's possible to engineer out the fact that road surfaces wear and ground underneath sometimes shifts
>>
>>16045313
Roads are expensive to upkeep, also speedbumps exist. also if you happen to need to drive offroad in an emergency and hit a bump, it's be nice not to destroy your fender because your tire smashed into it.
>>
>>16045320
Engineer roads to only be 2'6" wide. Problems weren't.
>>
>>16041477
Ride quality.
>>
>>16045333
what?
>>
What about when you drive through any amount of mud on a road and your wheel gap is caked with mud?
>>
>>16045791
The mud acts as an abrasive / lapping compound and automatically resizes your wheel arches and fender wells to fit your current wheel / tire setup.
>>
>>16045791
What's your point exactly?

>>
>>16045333
Where the fuck do you drive with roads that narrow? HOW the fuck do you drive on roads that narrow? Even a fucking twingo is almost double that.
>>
>>16041477
>Why don't all cars come from the factory without wheelgap, or with less?

Because the gap is necessary so that the car is usable in normal city driving conditions. That means potholes are allowed. You obviously are either a new driver or an oblivious driver if you have been driving for over a year.

Let's say you are making a right turn. The city road was widened from an older narrower road. As a result, there is a dip due to a drainage hole as you turn. One of your car tires now dips and comes back up WHILE it is turned at an angle. Now do you see why you need that wheel gap to have that tire avoid hitting the fender? If not, then there is no helping you here with such an obvious example.

>>16041477

I dont think anyone likes wheelgap

easiest way to ruin a cars looks
>>
>>16041497

>>
>>16047716
Wheelgap works for me. IMO most cars are styled for a specific wheelgap and anything more, or less, is out of balance.

I also don't usually care for tint since it makes the greenhouse appear bulkier and ruins the relationship between it and the rest of the body.
