Just replaced the alternator and battery, voltage regulator was bad and it fucked my battery. Was suspiciously easy/fast to replace. What has /o/ done on their car this month?
>>

why didnt you just replace the regulator instead of paying for 15lbs of copper

I have 2 of them.. they are expensive as hell in parts when you have to do something to them engine wise, but far more fun to drive than the 3.7 gassers.

Also they get far better mileage... I have never gotten worse than 22mpg even on shit winter diesel.
>>
>>16038671
If the alternator was to decide to be fucky like mine (voltage regulator) what would it do to your jeep when the batteries (i assume you have 2 like every other diesel) eventually die?

Mine only has 1 battery group 34 = or >850CCA @0°

Some people have modified theirs to use 2 batteries or relocated battery compartment to rear to make more room for wiring stuff up under the hood.

I have had to replace alternators on both of mine.... most of the time it's the decoupler clutch on the front of the alternator that fails on these but I had an auto zone one heat up so much it was almost shooting flames out the back of it...

2.8l still requires ecu to run and such but it will operate for quite awhile on battery as long as you're not running lights and radio and heater. I drove around for a literal week with failing auto zone alternator that was not kicking out hardly any charge. I had a good battery though.

never use an auto zone alternator... you will just replace it the next year.
>>
>>16038757
I use O'Reilly or Napa on most parts unless it's somthing that is guaranteed like wipers, oil, etc. So having a diesel wouldn't have been beneficial to me when the problem was the not having juice? That sucks.

I use mostly oriley Napa and federated. Federated has good batteries for not that much $$$.. I think they are made by dekka or eastern penn.

In order to operate completely without a battery you would need a fully mechanical diesel like an old mercedes diesel or a cummins 12 valve. Once started all they need is fuel and air.... but you would still need battery power to crank them over.

If the Mercedes was manual u might get away with push start ... but you would probably have a hard time push starting a 12 valve unless you were pushing it with another vehicle.

All modern diesels are usually common rail and have an ecu... the injectors are actuated electronicly and they require power to run that stuff.

If you really can't afford to get stuck I'd say run dual batteries or keep a fully charged spare in the trunk so if it ever happens you can swap them out and at least make it home or to some other stopping point. I keep my second stringer group 34'a charged up in my garage in case I run into a stupid issue I can just swap them out.

Valve cover is back on. I hand tightened the bolts instead of going by the proper torque though. I drove around and brought the oil to operating temp and parked it on a clean piece of cardboard to check for leaks. I hope I didn't fuck up.

That's not to bad price wise

I have never owned a Subaru but earlier this year my brother picked up an 03 legacy 2.5 .. it was suprisingly peppy and seemed like a good buy.

Mines a 2.2 SOHC. It gets me by but a 2.5L would have been nice. At the end of the day I chose to not deal with head gasket issues and went with reliability instead.

all on the right side plus

>both headlights

It has 245,000 miles on it and people keep telling me to replace it all together.

Am I in over my head or should I just go get another off the lot?

Changed my vapor canister which was literally 1 bolt and 3 hoses, did my fuel filter right after because why the fuck not it's right there

oil and brakes as well and rotated my own tires. I think next time i'll just pay wally world the 8 dollars to rotate my tires.

Before it gets really cold here in NY im gonna flush my heater core/change coolant

Oh and i had a fuse blow that stopped my coolant and gas gauge from working. let's hope it was just a fuse and not a short somewhere..
>>
Tried doing a tire rotation but my floor jack is garbage. Can anyone recommend a cheap enough one to lift ~1.5 tons (1300kg)
>>
>>16039768
I don't leave the dome light on.. I work on stuff and have to help people with broken stuff all the time.. it has proven useful to keep a battery or 2 charged up sitting in my garage on the shelf...

Also... don't store battery sitting on Concrete floor or it will be dead when you go to use it.
>>
>>16039840
thanks m8
>>
>>16038625
I'm a pizza delivery dude too, you can learn bro, its never too late.

As of lately all Ive done was replace the heater core for a second time right before the rains began here, as well as replacing the header gaskets because one side started leaking, had a pinch in it probably from rushing to get it done when I swapped the motor, gasket lasted a whole 12k miles.

Soon list,

>redo entire rear drums, adjusters springs linkage shoes etc
>suspension overhaul
>change diff fluid
>>
>>16039828

In case anyone runs into this issue I'll help you out now.

>wheel wiggles both ways as if bad tie rod/ball joint
>everyone tells you to get an alignment only
>check the parts and replace balljoint/control arm
>shit still wiggles but only left to right
>everyone tells you to get an alignment only
>replace tie rod ends and sway bar links
>shit barely wiggles, but more like forward and backwards no longer left to right
>people everywhere still tell you to only get an alignment
>do some reason
>spindle for ball joint is fucked
>have to replace entire knuckle
>people still tell you that you only need an alignment and that the massive amount of toe randomly changing can be fixed by it

So if you get a wiggle that isn't your ball joint, tie rod ends or bearings, your spindle to lock the ball joint in place is most probably fucked.

This was the dank l/100km after driving around for awhile. The car was at 10.1 before the oil change and reset. 7.4 is 38 MPG, that was after driving it around for a bit and driving like a granny. About a month later of that collecting data its back up to about 8,7~ which is only like 33 MPG.
