>>

Interesting graph.
What's the difference between A and B, noob and pro?

Reposting.
>>
>>16031526
basically yeah, trailbraking to the apex is faster, it's what pros do, on the graph it's illustrating that you can brake later and be accelerating for longer on the straights if you do it.

It comes with increased risk though.
>>
Noob again. Are there decent resources for picking up Motorkhana/Gymkhana/Whateverthefuckkhana somewhere?

This shit of riding the bike with crazy precision and knowing how every little thing impacts is really interesting, and it seems like the best way to learn more would be to do khana shit or stunt riding.
>>
>>16031539
no idea, I've been looking but it's hard to find. The best resources I've found are forum posts and this french channel that has subtitles on the videos. (i'll try and find it)

Moonrune land has a lot of instructionals but they're untranslated.
>>
>>16031539
The best way to learn is to fit a crash cage to a bike and just practice.
>>
>>16031533
I'll probably even start accelerating some time after the apex.
To know where the apex is you have to know the road, or at least be able to see the end of the turn from the start, gotta be careful on new roads with low experience.
>>
>>16031553
as I said last thread, I don't think you should make trailbraking on the road a habit but you probably need to know how to do it in case of emergency.
>>
>>16031539

depends on the speed, I guess the idea is he wants you to counterlean and lean your bike instead of the body if it's a really low speed one.

Or maybe he's just emphasizing gripping the tank with your legs and taking pressure off your arms which makes the steering input easier and more fluid.
>>
>>16031560
>in case of emergency
Like what?
>>
>>16031584
in case you overcook the entry to a corner that you shouldn't have and will be more comfortable holding the front brake on longer to make the corner at a safe speed.

Trailbraking is very freaky if you've never done it before.

Yeah but either way he doesn't explain shit. Motherfucking useless Italian scuole guida. No one is gonna teach you how to ride a bike here, all that while taking good money from you.

It's at very slow speed, I'm a beginner, the figure is very small and I do it clutch only. I always grip the tank with my legs, except with the internal knee when I turn and I haven't seen myself but I'm pretty sure I counterlean already, otherwise I wouldn't be able to do the figure eight.
It's just that that way I would have no problem at all at the exam, with the knee on the tank I still take the feet off the pad sometimes.
>>
>>16031584
Coming up to a corner too fast that is much tighter than you anticipated, if you are practiced and confident in trail braking you might be able to hold the brakes a bit later to trim off that little bit of speed that could mean the difference between making it through and running wide.
It's all in the lever modulation..
Too little and you won't brake enough.
Too much and you are sliding the front
Don't back off early enough or power on too soon in heavy trail braking? You're going to slide the rear and likely highside
It's something best learned on the track with someone that can follow and watch you ride.

my experience with these instructors is usually do whatever will make them happy, get it done and get out.

I've had to do the pre-learners in two different states and have had one right arsehole both times. Just do what they want, get your license, then get practicing and inform yourself.

Most of what they say is really useful, but not all of it is infallible, or as is often the case in motorcycles there are two right answers for two different intentions.

>>16031612
well you can go a hell of a lot faster on a motorcycle than you can on a bicycle, I'll say that, I'm only saying it as a last resort, obviously you want to get as much of the braking done in a straight line.

if you've done as much braking as you can and the option is now either turn in or run wide the best option would be to turn in though, and if you can turn in and keep on the brakes safely and confidently that's gotta be even better right?

That would mean that you entered the turn at a much higher speed than the required one, not just some more, as I understand it.

Seems like I'm getting the bike now so I think I'll stop doing the "lessons" and practise by myself.

>That would mean that you entered the turn at a much higher speed than the required one
yes and hence why it is a technique with its use on the track where getting that 1% over your competition could mean a win, where the pace can get so close to the limit that even motoGP riders wipe out very often.

Some people take it to the street, but it's all about getting a higher speed on the straights for longer, braking later and being faster overall. If you're riding normally you can just set your corner speed before you turn and ride through with a neutral loading on the tires, which is definitely safer but you'll always find people trying to push that limit on the road and its not like track techniques simply disappear.

By all means practice your riding and get experience but do consider looking at more advanced lessons once an instructor can assume you know at least the basics about riding - not having to focus on teaching you how to pass the test. When you feel ready find a local track and ask about their 1 on 1 training it will help you fix any bad habits you pick up in an controlled environment, there is a lot of bad technique that you can get away with while riding tame and it'd be better to see an experienced professional about that rather than find out the hard way.

That's sad to hear. I did my course with a not-for-profit, run by volunteers (but it was licensed, even gives you your license at the end of the course if you pass their test).

They had the attitude of "teach you how and why". The why was a nice addition, because it helped me understand WHY certain techniques work, which helps me to actually learn the technique in my experience.

Here and there they would very obviously hint things like "this part of the lesson? Pay a lot of attention to THAT PARTICULAR CORNER AND CONE SETUP" because that same sub-obstacle would be on the test. So they definitely wanted us to pass as well. But they seemed to have the attitude of "we want you to learn and be safe".

The ones who grasped the concepts quickly and were doing well were always told, basically, "good, but now do it a lot faster". Completely unnecessary, way faster than the test required, but it was to prove the point while we were under supervision that "yes, you can go this hard without dying, so don't be afraid in emergencies when you have to push a bit".

whats your reasoning? i like the idea that it has more torque, doesnt need to be revved as much to make power, might have better build quality, but for the same price as a brand new bike it's a toss up.

LAMS sv650s are harder to find and more expensive than the other two options.

had never considered the other two, i thought looking for bigger capacity would be the way to go?
just checked and vtr250s are nearly the same price and cb250's can be had a bit cheaper. though i was looking for something a bit more upright.

Since buying a shaftdrive, I have focussed on pointing out my mate's loose and dirty chains. Some of us look to adding additional weight to our motorcycles so as to give shit-eating slow shit-cunts a sporting chance. It is either shaftdrive, or keep my gixxer and ride the tooooj one-handed as a handicap.

Hmm. Maybe I just need faster mates who aren't shit-eating slow shit-cunts. But the maintenance needs of the shafties match my laziness so well.

If you just have a shitbike [CX500 or somesuch] that you don't want to fuck with and don't care about losing 15-20% of your power to the drivetrain, or a tourer where doing massive miles with no maintenance is key, shaft drive makes sense.

Otherwise it takes no time at all to check a chain, and doesn't cost several grand to fix when something fails [assuming you have a case saver]

Most likely the first two tho.

Cause I'm doing a little thing called starting a discussion, don't mean for it to be super complex or drawn out just thought it might be interesting to see what deebetee could come up with based on a small bit of info.

>>

Check the bike for leaks before you assume something. If there's not a pool by where that spot on your boot sits then it's your boot and not the bike.
>>
>>16032816
>it's your boot and not the bike.

now that's something new

How are you enjoying those power losses while walking from lack of lubrication?

Meant to say oil was probably already on boot. muh 2 hours of sleep

2bad lad.
I always walk away if even the simplest things aren't done becuz the owner kows of major shit and thinks even basic maintenance is not worth it anymore.

R6 I looked at
>headlight not working
>didn't know last oil change
>coolant under minimum
takes like 30 minutes and 20-30 bucks for a bulb and some oil to fix but nah. After deeper inspection we noticed it's not going perfectly straight and the brake disc was bent slightly. tl;dr was crashed
>>
>>16032836
I winged it on my FZ6 I bought and it turned out great. Was super dirt and the chain hadn't been lubed since 'nam but I got it for a good price anyways and it worked out well.

>Bought it to some shady af kids from the projet nearby
> "Nah mate, never fell, etc, etc"
>Obviously fell at least once, ripped carter and tip of the handlebar ripped off.
>Fuckiti'lltakeit.png
>Negociate it about 800€ lower than the regular price, payed an advance of about 70℅ in cash, signed a deed to pay the rest when i'll sell my old 125
>Find it's gonna cost to fix the crash, some costy parts, negociate a price according to the remaining 30% of the same price with a mechanic
>Call the kid back, flip him off his head, he gets spooked, debt is written off when i show him the mechanic bill.

Ride away.
>>
>>16032900
nah nigga, the alternator does that for you. but if the battery keeps on draining, there's two possibilities

1. the battery is broken and you need to replace it
2. somewhere in your wiring is a "kriechstrom" (no idea what that is in english) that keeps draining your battery, and that is very hard to fix
>>
>>16032898
>paki's are faster than a motorcycle
lol maybe ur cuck bike
>>
>>16032900
No, just ride it at least every couple days if you dont wanna pushstart it every two weeks.
Or buy a charger, that's also an option, about 20-30eurobucks
>>
>>16032900
Nah, a normal, healthy battery should be able to sit for months on months and still be able to start the engine properly

How old is the battery? Might be you have a leech
>>
>>16032912
well its a 2010 yamaha ybr 125, so I guess it is around 6 years old. Has 23,000 miles on it.

If its just a dinky battery how long will it take for the dealer to fix it? I was planning a nice long ride on Saturday holy fuck I'm mad.
>>
>>16032912
