They where well liked by a lot of people, used to know a couple of ex-coppers who used to have them and they where pretty fond of them- better balanced car than the V8's. Course they where not without some fairly bad flaws like a chassis like a wet noodle and not exactly good suspension, but for the 1980s most everything was a bit shitty anyway. Friend had the V8 Calais VL + 5 spd and after we spent months cutting out rust, fixing up shitty panels and overhauling the engine it was a pretty pimping bit of work... god it was a LOT of work too!
