Why are American cars suddenly great at handling but slow in straight lines? This is something I'm seeing in a lot of Motortrend tests lately.

Americans finally figured out how to make cars
Downforce and wide tires give great handling but lower top speeds. It's basic physics.
The French gave them good tires.
the viper also has a quarter mile time in the mid 11's

>Americans
>Being good at anything
911s get off the line well because the weight is at the back
For anyone curious, C7 won
Both are fun, both are good, the Porsche being slightly more good and the Vette being slightly more fun. Vette won for killing it on the track. Basically the perfect balance between the Stingray and Z06, significantly better than both.

A better question is why the viper started out as a mid 12 second car and stagnated around 11.5 second in 2003?

2017 carrera S faster than the old Turbo S, impressive.
Because Americans have learned in recent years that throwing the stickiest and widest on their car means they can attempt to cover the horribly poor handling under the false guise of "grip and road holding"
Just look at the z28, it's completely unusable on the street if it's under 10c
It's easier to turn better and stuff than accelerate faster than 3.0s 0-60 in a straight line.
Cars for the most part these days are on the bleeding edge of what physics allows in terms of straight line acceleration. Especially in terms of out of the factory.

>it's impossible to put different tires on a car
Save the big tires for track days and put nice street tires on it while DD'ing

that corvette z06 time is wrong, might want to check that out
