Some Renaults are okay.

There could have been more had the French state not butt into PSA Peugeot Citroën mess to "save jobs."

Now, there's a zombie shitting out shit cars, making it impossible for another, actually innovative company to grow to fill that market space.

This, 5gt turbo and the mid engine clio where the last good renaults. Everything want to shit after that.
>>
>>16018125
I agree with that anon, we used to have some good cars but we're producing shit nowadays.

We have not a lot of manufacturer still building cars and none of them takes true risks.

Just look at what concept cars peugeot had made in the last 20 years and there was really good ones but sadly they never product anyone (i'm looking at you Peugeot 907 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peugeot_907)

If you want fast hatches you can buy a Peugeot GTI (208/308) or a Renault RS (Megane/clio), if you want a comfy sedan you can buy a big Citroën or Peugeot (but the 508 isn't that great and Peugeot don't seem to want to replace the 607) but France hadn't produce a good sportscar for decades.

The reborn of Alpine (https://alpinecars.com/en/#Vision) with the Vision concept may bring something good but I think it won't compete against other midengine sportscar (Porshce Cayman, Lotus, etc.)

>>16018138
It's only a Meme used by 'murricans that think they fought more wars than us. America had taken part in a few major fights but France had taken part in hunderds of wars in its history and won a lot of them. We even helped you to fight against the brits.
I won't deny that we surrendered in one that could have changed the face of our planet but we couldn't fight anymore after 3 years of combats ripping apart our country. Moreover, for almost a century we have given command of our army to incompetent assholes...
but this is /o/, this is not the place to discuss about that.

Not the same pedigree and not the same machines. Still fun, but not R5 turbo fun
>>
Yes there are good French cars
Drive a 406 HDI break as a daily done 370.000kms on it now works great.
Had a 405 2.0 GTX earlier and it was reliable and drove nicely. People seem to not understand that when a car gets a few years on it you'll need to maintain it to have it perform as intended. And it seems to be more true for French cars as people are unwilling to spend money to maintain a cheap car.
>>
>>16020113

>>16020080
>the 508 isn't that great and Peugeot don't seem to want to replace the 607
The 508 is supposed to be a direct replacement for both the 407 and 607.

The sedan market has shrunk a lot. People just aren't buying them enough to warrant two separate designs. Thats one of the reasons why the ageing 607 lasted so long.
>>
>>16019775
They were disliked for that reason when they were new.
Now however, they are a lot of young folk's first car because they are easy to drive in the city, they are easy to find, often in good shape and very inexpensive, not to mention cheap to insure.
It's not that bad as your first car, it has some nostalgic value for froggies who grew up in the 90s and early 2000s when they were really everywhere, but that's about it.
Not a great car but deep down, as far as France goes, it's pretty much the car that best symbolizes the transition from decentralized living be it rural or industrial, to exile towards the cities and suburban growth.
>>16019868
Not very rare, but very high in demand. YOu can always find one or two for sale, but the price will also always be high.
>>
>>16020163

Very few. They are either modified towards racing spec or riced to death (see >>16020113)

I'm not going to even consider that abomination. I've spotted another GT Turbo in Sweden just across the border in original condition with some minor rust damage. Fingers crossed on that one.

On the left you have a GOAT RWD, Rear engined 180/350hp 970kg monster.
On the right you have a POS FWD, front engined 115/120ch 830 kg car
>>
>>16018099
they fail at overcomplicating luxury cars
As long as they keep it simple, they make good small cars
they're always stuffed with goodies for the price of bare bones stock vw or ford of comparable size
90's peugeots/citroens had top tier rustproofing

muh sport heritage arguments? I'll leave it to benchracers. Everybody won something sometime in the past.

their innovative
>twingo - needless to say
>dacia lineup - vw/fords idea was just to dump outdated generation golfs and jettas to third world countries. Renault idea - design third world country car from the scratch.
>First mass-produced cheap coupe-cabrios 206CC and 307CC
>First small vans. Megane scenic and xsara picasso. Way ahead competition.
>First small delivery cars made to suit needs and not being city cars with box attached to the back Berlingo/Partner (1996), Kangoo (1997) and suddenly 7 years later VW catches up replacing a Polo with a backpack with modern Caddy. yeeey!
>>
>>
>>16020273
For the small delivery you forget the 2CV fourgonette (produced between 1951-1977) and the R4 fourgonette (1961-1988)

After they made smaller versions (Citroen Nemo / Peugeot Bipper / Fiat Qubo) produced since 2007. They are dangerous shitty minivans but useful in cities (before going full Japanese-midgets vans)

Since french cars were discontinued in the U.S market, how would you know?Where I live, french cars are widely regarded as good cars, since they're both cheap to buy and to fix.For example, peugeot 106 rallye, citroen saxo rallye are both good shitboxes, the citroen c series are pretty economical cars, all underpowered tho except for the c2 1.6.
>>
>>16020317
They are fast because they are light but I can't forgive Renault to have make a bonkers RR hot hatch in small serie (less than 4000) and then sell its successor as a hot hatch which is FF, produced at 160 000 units.
The true successor to the R5 turbo is the Clio V6 (<3000 units, 250ch, 1400 kg, MR). And they are less expensive, but rare af...

>>16020325

you must be quite new to life, don't you? Learn the difference between mass produced hot hatch and homologation special/halo car.
>>
>>16020340
Peugeot took a hard blow when Peugeot-Citroën started producing for the chinese market, mostly by not making anything with specifically for that market, unlike Citroën and Renault. That plus a lot of poor commercian and design decisions (see the 1007, making more sedans when the market for them was shrinking steadily) didn't help and now they still spend a lot for concept cars to the detriment of their actual production.
>>
In 2016?
No. Absolutely not.
>>
>>16018159
hard to come up with a worse one

?

The DS series by Citroen are good cars, same with Renault Sport cars, most of their small cars do the job (new twingo for example), then they're pretty famous for their family carriers (espace, picasso)

french cars are at their best currently, far from the horrors from the 00's

Renault is outselling Ford in Europe, in second position behind VW. And French cars are second in reliability indexes behind Jap cars. I'd say they are doing well.
