Gentlemen.

>>16017173
Buying the full kit will be quite expensive. But good things are ahead and I'm saving money for a good project build. I was thinking of getting another car, But I already have a beast that needs to be freshened up a little.

Here's the kit info
>Complete Ford Mustang 5.0 Coyote engine
>All front engine accessories: pulleys and idlers.
>AC compressor and belt kit (Not included on the new Ford Racing crate motor)
>Alternator with belt (Not included on the new Ford Racing crate motor)
>Engine starter motor (Not included on the new Ford Racing crate motor)
>Engine top cover and coil covers ( Not included on the new Ford Racing crate motor)
>Exhaust manifolds with front oxygen sensors
>Engine wiring harness (Needed to plug into the Ford Racing control pack harness)
>Transmission Block plate
>OEM Flywheel
>OEM clutch and pressure plate kit
>Hydraulic release bearing
>Revised for 2015 MT82 6 speed Getrag manual transmission
>Revised for 2015 Transmission stock shifter assembly
>Driveshaft
>Transmission cross-member
>Complete fuel tank with pump
>All cooling hoses and thermostat housing
coolant reservoir
>>

Sounds mighty expensive

Convince me why i shouldnt daily drive an old classic american muscle car?
>it'll have power and disc brakes.
>possibly power steering.
>dont give a shit about safety
>as long as it gets 14+mpg, im happy. Doesnt have to be fast, just able to do 70mph with ease.
>and i hate plastics and electronics that plauge my current dd.

NOTE: Ill be buying a restored vehilce, not some project car; so reliability should be no issue; especially compared my current vehicle.

Pic would be related if AMC wasnt so damn rare.
>>
>>16017208
Yea, it kind of is

It's almost 10k but you get everything you need for a swap.

>>16017209
You can, and probably should. Classic cars change you, especially daily driving them
>>
>>16017209
Odds are if you're going to want 14mpg without something like a gear vendors unit, your going to want either highway gears or an overdrive transmission. Highway gears are better for mpg but not the best for acceleration. Gear vendors unit effectively doubles the amount of gears in your transmission and I'd super easy to install but it's pretty expensive. Over drive transmission is great but depending on your manufacturer, they're either not that strong or they require some form of electronic control. You get to keep good gear ratios though

Im ok with highway gears or an OD. Dont plan on racing it; just want something that looks and sounds mean.

But speaking of highway gears, how slow are we talking about? Like if you see a car within a mile, dont pull out in traffic?

What would be the best gears for a 3spd that would give decent mpgs, but still let you do the occasional burn out?

Damn thing has become a money pit. I've put in $5000 (That's not an extra zero) within two years. Most recently a head gasket (plus valve job, timing chain kit, water pump, some other things) for $2150. The rest has been a fuel pump, steering rack, and other miscellaneous things) Needs a new bearing in the diff, probably gonna end up just swapping in a whole new diff. It runs perfectly now, but it starts to randomly buck sometimes, I think it's something with the AFM.

Admittedly it's stupid to keep it. I'm emotionally attached to it. I was even saying if a car exactly like mine (Red liftback, '85 GT-S) popped up for sale in better condition I would consider selling mine. And one actually did, but I still wanted to keep mine. I was actually somewhat considering just getting a more normal, yet nice car, like an LS400 or something and then buying another Celica later on. I bought the car when I was 16 and just wanted any car. If I had known I would have liked it so much I would have rather bought a much nicer one that doesn't need a bunch of little things fixed here and there.
>>
>>16019424
Do you do the work on it yourself?

>I'm emotionally attached to it.
I know that feel, I learned just about everything on this car with my dad, first car I ever raced. I always think if I could find a 69 Chevelle or maybe even a clapped out 72 Cuda (impossible) and it meant trading or selling this one I don't think I could do it.

It'll bug me when I think about the shitty sunroof or the really bad body work that was done by the PO.

Maybe that's a part of being attached, moments wishing you had something better now makes you cherish it even more down the road.

Ok dumb question but I have to ask - what does the Amp gauge mean/do? I know the oil gauge is for oil pressure (meaning is the oil flowing thru the engine so it doesn't blow up), fuel is common sense, engine temp (again, so the engine doesn't overheat and blow up), but the amp?

I'm trying to decide on my next car purchase; probably in February. So far, I've narrowed it down to the following:

>Model T Ford
>Nash Metropolitan
>1968 Cadillac coupe
>1977/1978 Lincoln Mark V
>Mercedes 380SL

I may also be getting a free '65 Corvair basket case that I would turn into a Mad Max vehicle or a '60s Ford pickup, but those aren't ones that I need help deciding between.

Anyone feel like yelling at me and calling me and idiot for being unable to decide?

No, I live in an apartment so it's not really an option. I also have some mental problems I need to get over before I start working on my own car. To give you an idea, if I got oil or something in my eye I'll be incredibly paranoid that it's going to like permanently damage my vision. I don't like taking my car to a shop because it's my baby, but at the same time now that I've found a shop that's familiar with the engine and seems to know what they're doing I feel more comfortable taking it in. And at least I know the work is being done by professionals. I do have the factory repair manual and even though I have no experience I'm sure I could fix it right too, but still. And like I said, apartment, not really an option anyways (There is a garage somewhat locally where you can pay to rent their tools, lifts, etc. and they have mechanics for their help too and they have great reviews)

As for that last sentence, that's a good point. I know I could have had an objectively better car. My dad would have helped me buy another car, and with my money, I could have bought something around 5 grand. But I'm happy with my car.

all manual. and its hot as hell. im sweating no matter the weather. it pulls hard to the right when you brake, bc it needs new shocks, and idler arm, and probably brakes in the front all the bleeder valves are DIFFERENT sizes for some asinine reason.

Kansasfag here. Got two 78 town cars to choose from. A fully loaded one with a 400 and a bare minimum with a 460. Does the engine matter? Should I get the loaded car or the one with the 460?
>>
>>16022157
Jesus, if it is original mach 1 might be a good idea to restore it to its glory, how is the engine/drivetrain doing??

Do you know what code the engine? its a 351c right? c4 or c6 tranny? slap a ford 9inch in there, upgrade the leaf springs, jack the rear end up a little, and you have a road warrior senpai

lets get a full frontal on the car?
>>

you asked me last thread, and it has the 302 (F code) / c4 / 8inch

the drivetrain is solid despite the diff leaking and the trans getting hot and dumping atf if i drive it a lot.
it needs new lifter seals so it burns a little oil but not too much. thats understandable tho its nearly twice as old as i am.

ive already put new leaf springs on it, and raised it up an inch from stock height.

it needs a lot but ive got the time and energy to dump into it
eventually ill put a 351 and 9 in there. MAYBE some zoomies. a nasa hood. i dig that razor cola vibe.

/k/ommando here, figure I'll try my luck with a little advice from y'all
My dad and I have a 1964 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, but since I moved out of state the Caddy wasn't getting driven anymore (I was the only one in that house that would drive that car).
I came back and realized the transmission seemed slow, like taking much longer than usual to change between gears; tranny fluid is topped off.
Does she just need to run a little more and it'll get better? Or am I looking at a trip to the shop?

tl;dr: 1964 Caddy tranny is slow, should I just keep driving it and it'll get better? Or take it to the shop?

Pic isn't ours, my pic didn't want to upload

Got the head back on the ol' willys yesterday. Setting up my lights and tools now to work on it a bit tonight. Probably won't fire it up to it as my neighbors probably don't wanna hear me fucking with the motor on into the night, but I'm getting closer.

It's about time to peel the "preservative" layer of plasti-clear I put on the fender to see how that turns out after sitting in the yard 6 months.

Really want to have it run and put brakes on it before winter. Be nice to have if we get multiple feet of snow.
>>

How do the shifts feel and how long are we talking exactly? A shift kit will firm up shifting via a valve body replacement, but it could be just worn totally out. Time and mileage will take their toll. Dies it downshift properly? Any slipping, stuttering, or stalling?
>>
>>16023560
How many miles?
Autos don't last forever, it's just their design
>>
>>16023628
The shifts feel as I would remember them from before, but going from park to reverse, or reverse to drive takes several seconds to get from one to another, while before it would be about a half second. So if I'm on a little bit of a slope, I gear from R to D, I have to keep my foot firmly planted on the brake or it'll start creeping downhill because it takes that long to change gears, hopefully that paints a little more of a picture for you
>>
>>16023645
Well the odometer says a little less than 49,000 but it's only capable of 5 digits so I assume 149K

Starting shouldn't be a problem if you have a working choke, and even if you don't those and block heaters can always be rigged in by yourself. RWD is far superior, the result of RWD losing grip is you doing a cool skid when FWD losing grip ends with you instantly plowing into a ditch and dying

You can get the "universal" type of heater, aka the pump that circulates & heats the coolant. A bit less efficient than a block heater, but its much easier to hook up.

Rwd vs. Fwd is like in any other cars, but can actually be a bit better due to those cars being quite heavy

A plate that expired in the '60s cannot be linked to me in the police database in the event of a missed toll or red light camera and, since the car is from out of state, local police don't question the laws about vehicles registered with classic plates; not that I've been pulled over even once.

The savings in tolls and the fact that I can disregard red light cameras alone makes it worth it. I only bother for the cars I actively drive; so, I'm making three copies a week on a Friday afternoon at work.
>>
>>16042379
>>16040997
I might not be understanding or something, but what is this You mean your vehicles are actually not legit registered and you do this for other people as well? You work for the DMV?
>>
>>16042470
Most are registered; I just hate the Texas DMV. As such, I don't bother with registering vehicles that I will only be keeping for a few months or until I settle down in this state. Otherwise, I maintain an address in Wisconsin and mail in the title applications.

When I was selling cars, the taxes, title fees, and registration costs could exceed my profit margin and, if I didn't pay it, I could sell a car to someone else for a few hundred dollars less; making me more money and saving them money as well.
>>
>>16039568
Yea, I don't know what I am going to do yet. Either coyote swap for next year, or follow the original plan with the car.

>Everyone is doing LS swaps these days.......so boring now

With that logic I don't know. For me, it doesn't even matter if you run a chevy engine/drivetrain in a ford or a ford setup in a chevy. Means nothing. as long as you are having fun and enjoy your car that's all that matters.

The LS swap is just done to shit nowadays and that's actually cool, hell the LS platform is a great designed engine

That;s one of the good things about chevy, they have almost always made some pretty stout engines, I am a little disappointed with Fords engine lineup
>>
>>16042502
>I don't bother with registering vehicles that I will only be keeping for a few months or until I settle down in this state.

That's kind of common I think; however, as for me I make sure its registered etc.. rather not end up with a hassle with the law

Sounds like you are doing quite well though, I have been sort of looking into investments myself recently and where I am kind of leaning towards is property ownership. 40-60 acres go for anywhere from 20k-60k depends on the state/land etc..

Looks like this is the new gold rush these days.

Feels good man. It sat for about a year because it was having trouble keeping a charge and I never had time to work on it until I moved back home. Turned out something was fucky with one of the battery cables. THEN it started leaking coolant and it turned out the drain plug on the radiator was loose.

Gonna drive something else this week because I just realized today that I need new tires (the spare has a huge hole in it and we just noticed it after two years), but it was nice driving it for a couple of weeks.
