What are some automotive jobs that pay well and are enjoyable? Anything you have in mind, or if you have or had any experience or input on auto related jobs.
Is being a technician any good? Anyone have experience with UTI?
Automotive engineering or design?
How about being a salesman?
Anything would be appreciated.
>>
>Is being a technician any good?
Depends
>Anyone have experience with UTI?
Don't go to a for profit school, go to community college if you want to learn to wrench
>Automotive engineering or design?
Doesn't have much to do with the hobby, you aren't going to be designing cars, just small components, this is after years of school, internship, and getting lucky enough to get a job with a good auto manufacturer
>How about being a salesman?
Seems horrible

So what would you recommend then, I want to work with cars and enjoy it while making a decent income but I can't seem to find anything that doesn't have a catch to it.

Go get an entry level job at a shop and see if you like the environment. Just because you like cars doesn't have anything to do with liking working in the industry.
>>
What about driving school? *not retarded op*
>>
Im a diesel technician and it's alright. The pay is a little better than auto technicians and we are paid hourly rather than flat rate so you can expect the same kind of cash flow weekly regardless of how much business the shop brings in.

Diesel tech is best tech

Diesel tech here. Working at a small 3 bay shop for semis and straight trucks. Pays decently and most days things aren't too hard to deal with. Pretty comfy job honestly.

I started my own mobile car repair business. Very little overhead so I can be cheap but still make a good living. Usually clear $200/day working less than 8 hrs. Good enough for me. I hate scheduling and calling peope most of all . Id rather just show up and work on the cars.

Work at Thermo King. Most of our units run from a diesel engine. Little differant but your still wrenching.
With the refrigeration and electrical side your well rounded and keeps your options alittle more open.

I love cars. Love, love, em. Had tons of fun figuring out how to fix a lot of the shit boxes I had throughout highschool and after. Figured might as well be a mechanic, I'm a good problem solver and I have a good idea of how to do it. Regardless of what you know, unless you have a degree from a college (Not a for profit, everyone, even the army will laugh at you with one) or are already past a level 1/2 of apprenticeship, prepare to hate it. I did it for 2 years, most of the work was the same shit, suspension, brakes, oil and tires for easy bits and pieces. But it wore me out. Shop owners don't usually know their ass from their head, it's all about the numbers on paper and bottom line. Service reps? Better bullshitters than a car salesman, don't usually know a fucking thing about cars aside from what they've seen on american top gear. Shop foreman is usually a dickhead that is bitter he got into the trade and hates it, but is essentially a fucking automotive encyclopedia. Didn't work on a car for a solid year after I dropped it. Paid like total fucking shit too. If I had to go back to it, I'd be trying to get in as a diesel/heavy equipment tech. Better money, but a lot harder on your body. Don't do it.
