Yurop has finally seen the light. Daily reminder that there is no replacement for displacement
>>
Link: http://www.motortrend.com/news/report-automakers-in-europe-will-return-to-bigger-engines/
>>
Is it happening? Has yurop's un-cuckening begun?
>>
>>16006898
Is there a direct relationship between HP and CCs? To me, it seems that there are so many other ways to increase HP without increasing engine volume.

Sorry for newfag questions.
>>
>>16006919
The larger the displacement, the more potential power an engine can make. As you said however, displacement is far from the only factor when it comes to power.
>>
>>16006919
In terms of mass production ready engines the easiest way to make power is to burn more gas

Inb4 some fag cries about forced induction or snake oil memes
>>
>>16006995
Forced induction is burning more gas.
>>
>>16007002
Yeah but that's more bullshit to add when all you really had to do was install shorter conrods
>>
>>16007012
Shorter conrods mean less compression though.
>>
>>16006936
The larger the displacement, the more power N/A it has while maintaining reliability and stupid emissions standards.
>>
>>16007024
So shave the heads mang, I means it's not like your engine will grenade from low compression

>>
>>16007050

Lower compression means less power without forced induction. If you dislike forced induction so much, why aren't you advocating more compression?
>>
>>16007078
I don't consider 9:1 low compression
>>
>>16007087

9:1 is stock. It's low enough for like 13 lbs of boost. 10.5:1 is bare minimum if you're going n\a.

How does it make you feel that it can be bored over to 600
>>
>>16007104

FINALLY! SOMEONE PUT SYMMETRICAL FUCKING TURBOS ON AN ENGINE! See? How fucking hard was that?

That pic is the first time in my life I've seen a turbo set up and not thought "nice, but I'd rather supercharge it."
>>
>>16007099
Yes well that's besides the point that ita easier to just build an engine with a bigger bore than to plumb a turbo in a cramped engine bay
>>
>>16007104

Looks like those two steel lines are running into the back of the block. What are those for?
>>
>>16007131
Pressure reference for the wastegates and blow off valves, right?
>>
>>16007149
Yeah, looks like they go into the intake manifold so they're probably for controlling the wastegate.
>>
>>16007012
Stroking doesn't increase the potential of the engine, it's limited by the breathability of the head
>>
>>16007182
This is correct. If your heads don't flow well enough to fill a bigger cylinder properly, stroking, boring out or making your engine rev higher is useless.
>>
>>16007031
The larger the engine is, the higher the tax is.
If I can get a 2.3 liter to produce 310HP and 500Nm because of a turbo and pay $300 a year for it I'd pick that over a 5.3 liter that produce 330HP/520Nm that cost me $830 a year.
Look at prices on big engine cars in Norway.
Then look at the fuel price.

Then you realize that a person driving what you would consider a shitbox is actually driving a car that cost way more than your wuee-ate
>>
>>16007596
Then move to a non-cucked country. Simple.
>>
>>16006936
NO DISPLACEMENT FOR REPLACEMENT
>>
>>16007634
Maybe no?
I rather live in a country that always tops in charts where they have:
Education
Living standards
Internet Speed
Actually have paid vacation for more than 25 days
Life insurance
Free hospitals
Works places that doesn't treat me like a slave like in USA.
>>
>>16007650
That's your choice then, isn't it?
>>
>>16007658
Well fucking duh...
Did you manage to think that by yourself?
>>
>>16007665
Then don't complain about laws and taxes. You chose to live there.
>>
>>16007670
Then don't act like a retard about other countries engine sizes.
We don't need 999 liter V8 engine producing 100HP with 0.0000000MPG so we can drive for 3 hours to our work on a long straight with 40MPH speed limits with police that thrust their shotguns up your ass if you don't pay them bail for existing on the road.
>>
>>16007681
>We don't need 999 liter V8 engine
No, but we're free to buy them if we want.
"You don't NEED" is cuckspeak.
>>
>>16007687
You're awfully dependent on the word cuck.
Is it something you're unable to separate from?
Is it such a big part of your life that you always are burdened with cucks?
Have you tried removing the big phallic object from your mouth once in a while?
>>
>>16007596
Displacement based tax belongs in a period where displacement governed power. Because efficiency and power are not dependent on displacement anymore there is cross-competition between engine sizes that both brought the latest technology to v8s and also our small engines out of the dark ages.

>>
>>16007708
Example:

WOT on a 2 liter engine in a 2016 model
vs
WOT on a 6 liter engine in a 2016 model

Which do you think consumes the most fuel and also spits out the most shit into the air through the exhausts.

Exactly, now go read a book on what the rest of the world has been doing for over 20 years when it comes to the restoration of the global environment.
And no, it's not the same shelf as the 4th fuckmendment or the bible corner.
>>
>>16007728
Well the 2 liter version in my model is a turbocharged high revving engine

The 6 liter is a dohc v12 mercedes

They make exactly the same power, v12 uses less fuel and lasts longer. Checkmate, also half your asses were nazis during the great wars.

I don't read books, I write them.

>>

Even so, just stroking an engine won't increase the power just by itself, as the rev limit will be correspondingly lowered.
The torque curve will be shifted lower in the rpm range though, and it can spool a turbo quicker

the limit is physics. a stroke can only be so long before it puts unneccesary strain on the engine. you see lots of boomers touting their 572, 632 etc engines but they wouldn't last any real duty unless they were purpose built drag cars that were rebuilt every season.

anything longer than a 4.00 inch stroke is better suited to hauling cattle than providing reliable performance. in 1970 the Corvette was only offered the L88 427 while the chevelle got the LS6 454 for precisely this reason. The 4.00 inch strokeof the 454 put too much wear on the cylinder walls and couldn't rev as high. RPMS make power, displacement is nice but stroke limits it.

How can you guys fall for that obvious a plan.
They are making cars more expensive for everybody in hopes we will get rid of them or switch to EVs because ICE and hybrids will become too costly for the common man.
In the meantime, safety regulation are here to make sure we never get things like kei-cars or three-wheelers that would make it possible to get arround the issue and create a new class of affordable transportation.

Twin turbos were a 90s meme because the shit-ass units meant it was more efficient to run two smaller ones (and often easier to fit them in a cramped bay) because single big turbos made shitloads of heat.

These days any twin setup is beaten by a fat single, assuming they're both equivalent in development.

Plus, symmetrical twins means you get to enjoy a fucking reverse rotation turbo. Enjoy your nopartz.

It may be great but I still think the original is better. It's not as cramped while being only a bit wider. The only thing that the new one has that's better than the original is the fact that it's RR of course, which allows for an insanely small steering radius but takes away from the trunk space (which the original has plenty if there's no one sitting in the back)

>>16009592
I read about it somewhere you fuckwit. Also I happen to know that engine is slanted while surrounded by C-shaped De-Dion Axle, which limits width to acomodate. I wish renault engineers would prove me wrong but this probably won't happen you fuckwit.
Also article says nothing about 1.0liter NA version of this engine. So there's an option that ther'll be only 1.0 NA 70hp which would be sad or they'll develop ~1.0 turbo to replace current 0.9 tarbo which would be nice.
Also you're a fuckwit.
>>
>>16006898
This so called "rightsizing" trend is nothing short of an abomination. It's for emissions, not power - you increase the displacement while keeping the power output the same, as such reduce combustion temperatures = lower NOx. These things will be gutless.
