>work place on a hill

>instead, park it a few streets down

I have no starter. I always park on a hill or leave it running.
>>
I keep repairing it instead of buying a better fucking car even though the online value estimate tool gives me a negative number and it's worth more in scrap value than sale potential.

You're getting some exercise out of it so it's a win/win.

It actually won't strain the clutch more than you think. This is what people think happens when you Offroad and ride the clutch until it burns and scrapes.
It does less than you think as like changing regular gears but twice or thrice. Many klicks rocking, he still has his clutch in at 90000km

and then some idiotic turn point in your life makes you sell it and the next owner runs it into the ground in a few weeks

Can you switch from 1st to 3rd without hurting the vehicle? How about 1st to 4th?
Onterrible requires me to take occasional leaps of faiths in order to better make left turns out of places so I do peelouts of safety sometimes. This also means I do 1st gear 4000-5000RPMs occasionally and feel like 2nd (and sometimes 3rd) gears are redundant. But should I go through the motions anyway?
>>
>>16007329
>Can you switch from 1st to 3rd without hurting the vehicle? How about 1st to 4th?

Yes, as long as the resulting rpm is over 1,300 or so. I've done 1st to 3rd and 2nd to 5th many times (have been driving manual 10 years).
>>
>>16007329
bad for your syncros mang

just ghost through 2nd and 3rd with the clutch in and its alot better

>have two cars, 89 and 94
>94 has frame rust holes and all steel lines are on the verge of total collapse
>engine bay is fucking red-brown

>89 car is spotless with only rust on the body
>entire engine bay and most of the underbody is coated in half inch thick oil gunk because the engine leaks so profusely
>oil gunk stopped the northeast rust that killed the newer car
>if I ever rebuild the engine so it doesn't leak, I'll be dooming it to a cancerous death unless I get under the car and rub burned oil all over everything myself
>>
>>16006822
That's awesome. It would take less effort to just fix it but I appreciate a good shitbox.
>>
>>16007329
>Can you switch from 1st to 3rd without hurting the vehicle? How about 1st to 4th?
You can shift from anything to anything if you're doubling clutching like you should.

I've been there man. When I worked at Walmart I used to park on the empty side of the lot and push my car, running behind it, and then hop in and pop the clutch. Nearly didn't get it started a couple times and then found out it was just a loose ground on the starter lol
>>
>>16006817
carry oem coverage on my insurance policy
use the recommended premium fuel
park far away from people to avoid door dings

Things that make you want to kill yourself, ITT:
>>
Wait 5 mins for it warm up even though it's only 12o C before driving
Never redline without driving for a minimum 15 minutes
Vacuum with the shop vac once a week
Clean the dirt off the engine to help check for leaks easier
Check tire pressure every 2 weeks
Rustproof
Bolt OEM scissor jack to 2x4 so if needed the jack won't slip in an emergency
Certified PHD (Pot Hole Dodger)
>2007 Honda Fit
>>
>>16007563
This.

Double clutch and let the revs be close and the syncros won't give a shit

>>16006817
I have a death rattle coming from the turbos but i spool that shit everyday anyway, my car hates me

Unless I know the lights about to change I do this. Mostly cause my truck is loud.

>managers see me online early and hammer me to get on with work and I'm like lolnope I'm not on shift yet unless you pay me overtime or let me go home an hour early as per working time regulations
>"fuck off anon we don't have the budget"
>"maybe if you forced your office staff to take driving lessons or charge them for the damage they cause to the fleet vehicles, you'd not get fucked up when the lease companies appraise the cars and charge for damage when you return them and not have retarded fleet insurance premiums lmao"
>suddenly everyone is deaf
All because I don't want my shitbox to get fucked up by middle management people who drive their company fleet vehicles like they were stolen

> Own 5 year old car
> Perfectly reliable
> No issues whatsoever
> Work somewhere civillised
> Bay parking every day, pull through nearly-empty car park to best spots

> Change my own oil because I want to
> Clean and wash it myself
> Can't afford foreign holiday due to car payments
> Go on road trip around britain instead, sleeping in hotels, living out of the car
> Next service task is changing the engine air filter, planning to do it when the weather warms up a little

Having a reliable car is so damn comfy and low effort. It doesn't need maintaining or repairing, just treating well, doing oil changes on time, and replacing consumable parts when required.
>>
>>16006817
Sounds more like you are a pussy and can't do it. But that's just like me reading between lines.
>>
I start it up and wait for it to warm up and the idle to settle, everyday.
No matter how late it makes me to experience traffic.

How much fuel and brake wear do people save on not doing this per decade?

walking a couple minutes and getting a bit of rain really is soooooooo horrible.

Hello
Please tell me why coasting in neutral is wrong
I did it with my first car, and I'm stuck with an autotragic for now, but when I go back to Manual I need to know how not to kill it.
>>
>>16009155
about $20 worth per decade
>>
>>16008016
I think they're knees
>>
>>16007359
Bullshit.
>>
>>16009888

Not really wrong, doesn't hurt anything by coasting out of gear, just uses a tiny bit more fuel. If you coast in gear, the engine stops injecting fuel if you're not on the gas, it's an emissions thing to help catalytic converters work. Look up "deceleration fuel cut off" if you want to know more about it.

The harm could come when you go to put it back in gear, if you don't rev match or at least attempt to rev match, you'll put more wear on the synchros as they bring the gear back up to speed, and you'll put more wear on the clutch as it makes up for the difference in engine RPM and wheel speed for the given gear.

Does the fuel cutoff spot to carbd engines with no ecu?
