What is the best 4 cylinder turbo engine for a swap on the market today?
Is Ecoboost the best bang for the buck or is there better for a comparable price?
>>15998568
>4 cylinder turbo
>not superior 5 cylinder turbo

Swap into what? What criteria is this "best swap" consisting of? Could you be a little more clear and a bit less ambiguous?
>>15998585
it's better to keep in the same dimensional targets that the engineers had for the suspension/chassis of the car
switching from 4 cylinder to 4 cylinder makes more sense
>>15998590
>What criteria is this "best swap" consisting of?
>cost
>availability
>reliability
>performance
>this is a Mustang engine
Some of Honda's performance 4 cylinders like the one found in the Type R are built in the US. if you can order those in Crate engines wouldn't they be better than ecoboost in everyway? (assuming you live in the US) even if honda's engine is more expensive than ecoboost it will probably be worth it in the long run in terms of reliability/aftermarket potential.

Pre '02 Chrysler 2.4 DOHC into a first or second gen Neon
>dirt cheap
>150hp/167lbft stock
>takes mods and makes power like crazy
>reliable for Chrysler

>reliable for Chrysler
>>15998613
Doesn't Ariel already do that with the Atom??
>>15998628
Yeah, it actually is
>head co designed by Chrysler and the Lamborghini F1 team where were owned by Chrysler
>Is essentially the SRT-4 Neon engine without the turbo
I'll say that the engines before '02 were reliable and you can make a ton of power off them
>>15998648
>Is essentially the SRT-4 Neon engine without the turbo
>without the turbo
Op asked what's the best 4 cylinder turbo, not na. Na engines tend to have have high compression ratios post 2000 when variable valve timing became widespread.
1.8 T-Jet
Just get something with a shitload of aftermarket.
3s-gte if you want older, the 2.0t VW makes if you want new. Ecotec or SRT-4 if you want somewhere in the middle.
>>15998568
Ecoboost engines have good torque/powerbands but get dirty faster than anything else. Catch cans only slightly reduce the issue.
>>15998678
Oh, then either 3S-GTE 3rd gen or Mazda MZR 2.3T
4g64 with forged internals, dohc head, and 18/20g
If we're talking stock, then an imported evo front end. 250-280hp with a tranny, ecu, axles etc for under 3k$
>>15998760
>but get dirty faster than anything else
what did he mean by this?
>>15998756
>Ecotec or SRT-4 if you want somewhere in the middle.
Just get the ecoboost op
There's no other modern turbo 4 on the market that's as cheap, powerful, reliable as the ecoboost
>>15998879
Toyota 8AR, will be a bit pricier but at least it won't throw a leg out of bed because you went WOT for 30 seconds.
Same goes for the new Honda Civic motor and that has more grunt than the Ford.
Probably many others.
Ecoboom is cheap and just the right side of the lemon laws. There's not much else going for it.

>>15998916
>that has more grunt than the Ford.
Doesn't the 2.3 Ecoboost make more power, I'm confused?
>There's not much else going for it.
It's in this thing, which I kinda like.
>>15998937
Yeah that's an interesting car from a design point of view. Lots of lateral thinking to get the price down. The RS motor is stronger. Don't think the Mustang one is though. Might be wrong. In my mind I was thinking of the 2.0 when I typed that.
>>15998596
Then I hope you're into making your own engine mounts, no word on what it takes to swap the tranny or make an adapter
you could be swapping into a 9th gen corolla for all anyone knows
>>15999197
I guess either a 180sx or sw20 MR2
basically a replacement for an old Japanese turbo 4 car
>>15998568
I was thinking about that today. Would be fun to see someone swapping a 2.0tfsi VAG engine into a Miata.
>>15998866
Google carbon build up, direct injection
>>15998568
4g63s go in everything
I'd say the FRA20F but it may be pretty tough to get a boxer 4 into most engine compartments designed for an inline 4
>>15999996
But do they ever come out alive?
>>15999999
ayy
>>15998601
>ecoboost
>mustang
